DRUG MULE : Nigerian fashion designer excretes 44 wraps of cocaine

29-year-old fashion designer, Okechukwu Kingsley Ajaero has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over allegations of unlawful importation and possession of 44 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 850grammes.

According to a statement by NDLEA, Okechukwu who hails from Abia state was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos during the inward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight arriving from Sao Paulo.

When interrogated, Okechukwu said

“I am a fashion designer by profession. I went to Brazil two years ago in search of better working conditions. This is my first time of trafficking in drugs and I got involved through friends. I was expecting 30,000 Euros as my profit. My business partner was to collect the drug from me while on transit in Qatar but he failed to show-up. I was compelled to come to Nigeria with the drugs but I excreted 30 on board the aircraft.”

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade said that the Agency will continue to pay attention to passengers coming from Brazil, saying

“Brazil is a source country for cocaine and we shall continue to beam our searchlight on this route. Those who seek to enrich themselves through drug trafficking shall be arrested and prosecuted”.

Okechukwu will be arraigned in court soon.

Suspected cultists yesterday August 4th shot dead a student of the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, AIFUE ,in Owerii Imo state. 4 year old Martaisha Thomas, (left) was shot in the 700 block of Ridgeway Avenue in Avondale, Cincinnati last Thursday around 8:15 p.m in a drive-by shooting. She is in critical condition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and presently fighting for her life.

According to the Cincinnati Police, the gunman (pictured right) Darnell Hicks, 20, was targeting someone in a group sitting outside the block but the little girl got hit. According to a news release from the police, Darnell is wanted for felonious assault in connection with the shooting. He's currently on the run.

In the European Union, the maximum amount of undeclared cash one can take on board a plane is 10,000 euros ($10,986.00). Snoop Dogg, who has been touring Europe after releasing the album "Bush" earlier this year, will have to pay a fine, said Andrea Parisi, his lawyer.

"We clarified everything from a legal point of view. The money came from concerts he had performed around Europe. There was no crime; it was just an administrative infraction," Parisi told Reuters on Saturday.

Half of the cash was given back to Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, while the other half is being held by Italian authorities until the amount of the fine is determined, Parisi said.
