A top chef has been found dead with a rifle by his side at his home in an apparent suicide just months after his restaurant was named the best in the world.

Benoit Violier, 44, who ran the three Michelin Star Restaurant de l'Hotel de Ville in Switzerland, is thought to have shot himself, police said.

'Late in the afternoon [on Sunday], police... went to Crissier where they discovered at his home the body of Mr Benoit Violier,' the force said in a statement, adding that it appeared he had shot himself.

Doctors say they have successfully separated eight- day-old conjoined twin girls-believed to be the youngest ever babies to be parted.

Medics in Bern, Switzerland carried out the operation risky operation on girls Lydia and Maya over five hours with a 13-strong team.

The surgery reportedly carried just a one percent chance of success.

According to Swiss media, the twins were "extensively conjoined on the liver, but had all vital organs".

They weighed just 4lb 14oz together after being born eight weeks premature.

Doctors had reportedly planned to separate them when they were several months old but brought the operation forward when they each suffered a life-threatening condition.

India celebrated its 67th anniversary of becoming a republic with celebrations across the country on Tuesday, including a military and cultural parade through the capital.

French President Francois Hollande was the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, with maximum security measures employed to thwart any threats.

The French leader joined President Pranab Mukherjee and Premier Narendra Modi as the military parade marched through a central avenue near the Presidential Palace.

India celebrates the day its constitution was adopted - January 26, 1950 - as Republic Day.

French soldiers also took part in the parade. It is thought to be the first time a foreign army contingent has participated in India's celebrations.

The parade included marching troops, military bands, tanks, and other hardware.

Colourful floats from various Indian states, traditional dances, and gymnastics by children were also part of the event.

The huge griffon vulture was captured by Lebanese villagers in Bint Jbeil on Tuesday after they became suspicious of the Israeli tracking device on its tail.

Initially from Catalonia, the bird is part of an attempt to increase the population of endangered vultures in the region.

A convicted killer has been sent back to jail after carrying out a brutal Christmas Day axe attack that left a man needing surgery on his penis.

Steven Souley, who was convicted of culpable homicide in 2011, stormed into a house party in Summerston, Glasgow, and assaulted Robert Eadie just six months after he was released in 2014.

The 26-year-old, along with accomplice Zico Malavin, 20, repeatedly hit Mr Eadie with an axe and knife and left him with a 'deep groin wound'.

Both men pleaded guilty to assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement at Glasgow High Court on Thursday. They will be sentenced in Edinburgh next month and remain in custody.

Prosecutors said Souley arrived with Malavin at Mr Eadie's sister's flat around midnight on the day of the attack.

Souley was armed with an axe while Malavin, who was sporting a red Christmas jumper, was clutching a knife. Mr Eadie's sister, who knew the pair, immediately asked them to leave.

Allan Nicol, prosecuting, told the court: 'Mr Eadie tried to put them out, but, as he did so, both attacked him.

'He was repeatedly struck on the head and body with the axe and knife.'

The duo were eventually forced out and they fled the scene. Mr Eadie, who was covered in blood, was taken to hospital

The FWPD says they recieved a call around 2 am this morning of a possible assault and made contact with a "23 year old female who stated she was involved in a disturbance with her ex-bf earlier in the evening in Dallas."

As 3m360  previously reported, Manziel and longtime girlfriend Colleen Crowley had apparently broken up in recent weeks -- and scrubbed their social media accounts of each other. The report does not mention Crowley by name but her age and information sync up.

Cops say when they made contact with Manziel's ex, she was uncooperative. Then there's this ... cops say Manziel's ex told them she was concerned about "the well-being of her ex-boyfriend." So the FWPD launched a full scale effort to find Manziel -- searching the area with the assistance of an "Air One Unit." 

Ultimately cops say they determined Manziel was "safe and in no danger" and now officials are continuing the investigation to determine if a crime was committed

It might sound bizarre, but more than 10,000 people have signed a petition hoping to makeSnoop Dogg the new narrator of Planet Earth.

FACEBOOK BANS PRIVATE GUN SALES THROUGH THEIR SITE

Facebook Inc. has prohibited global users from coordinating person-to-person private sales of firearms on its online social network and its Instagram photo-sharing service on Friday[January 29, 2016], countering concerns that it was increasingly being used to circumvent background checks on gun purchases.

The move comes as the United States debates the issue of access to guns after a string of mass shootings. U.S. President Barack Obama has urged social media companies to clamp down on gun sales organized on their platforms.

It updates Facebook’s regulated goods policy, introduced in March 2014, that banned people from selling marijuana, pharmaceuticals and illegal drugs.

Facebook already prohibited private firearms sellers from advertising “no background check required”, or offering transactions across U.S. state lines without a licensed dealer because the company said such posts indicated a willingness to evade the law.

Licensed retailers will still be able to advertise firearms on Facebook that lead to transactions outside of Facebook’s service, said a Facebook spokesperson.

A serving policeman beat his wife to death with a large battery and a paint pot after she 'went off sex.'

Jill Goldsmith, 49, died from head injuries after an argument with her husband Adrian Goldsmith at the couple's home near Northamptonshire Police headquarters.

Adrian Goldsmith, also known as Otis, was a serving officer with the force at the time of the murder last March.

He was convicted of murder at Stafford Crown Court after a three-week trial and will be sentenced on Monday.

In a statement, Jill Goldsmith's family said: "Adrian Goldsmith has not only taken the life of Jill, but he's also destroyed the life of her son, her mother and her brother.

Killer Cop shoots 12 year old girl but her Dad gets charged for her death

The father of a 12-year-old Pennsylvania girl who was killed while a constable was serving an eviction notice has been charged with criminal homicide in his daughter's death, prosecutors said.

Don Meyer allegedly pointed a loaded semi-automatic assault rife at the chest of Constable Clarke Steele as they argued over an order to vacate on January 11.

Steele fired one round, which struck the 57-year-old father in the arm and then pierced the chest of his daughter, Ciara, who was hiding behind him. She died at the scene.

She had been home from school that day because she was sick.

 

Prosecutors upgraded charges against Meyer on Thursday. He now faces counts including criminal homicide, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and illegal possession of weapons.

 

He is being held without bail in Pennsylvania's Perry County Jail and has pleaded not guilty.

Several eviction orders had been issued against Meyer, authorities said, and he had been notified by telephone that a constable was on the way to serve him with another notice. Meyer met the constable at the door of his apartment with the rifle slung over his shoulder, authorities said. 

Meyer allegedly raised the loaded weapon and pointed it at Steele's chest as the two argued.

The evil stepdad of murdered four-year-old Daniel Pelka has been found dead in a top security prison.

Mariusz Krezolek, 36, was discovered lifeless by guards as they did morning rounds on Wednesday.

A source said: “He was found at 8.15am when they unlocked. He was in a single cell and was a Cat B prisoner."

Krezolek had been serving a life sentence at HMP Full Sutton, Yorkshire for the horrific killing of Daniel who was starved and beaten to death.

He and the boy’s mother Magdalena Luczak were convicted of murder at Birmingham Crown Court in 2013 and each given minimum 30 year terms.
