The evil stepdad of murdered four-year-old Daniel Pelka has been found dead in a top security prison.
Mariusz Krezolek, 36, was discovered lifeless by guards as they did morning rounds on Wednesday.
A source said: “He was found at 8.15am when they unlocked. He was in a single cell and was a Cat B prisoner."
Krezolek had been serving a life sentence at HMP Full Sutton, Yorkshire for the horrific killing of Daniel who was starved and beaten to death.
He and the boy’s mother Magdalena Luczak were convicted of murder at Birmingham Crown Court in 2013 and each given minimum 30 year terms.
The evil pair, who were in a relationship at the time, starved the tragic schoolboy over a six month period at their home in Coventry and subjected him to torture and poisoned him with salt.
The judge said the Polish pair were responsible for “unimaginable” acts of cruelty and described Daniel’s level of emaciation as “unprecedented” in the UK.
The court heard Daniel weighed just 1st 9lbs when he died and regularly foraged for food and even stole lunch from other pupils to try to survive.
His life could have been saved if Luczak and Krezolek had dialled 999 after causing his fatal head injury.
But instead the couple, who came to the UK in search of work, locked him in his soiled room for 32 hours until he died in March 2012.
Luczak had challenged the length of her sentence at the High Court in December 2014 but it was dismissed by a judge.
She killed herself at HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire in July 2015 on the eve of what would have been Daniel’s eighth birthday.
Krezolek’s death is now being investigated by an independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
The Ministry of Justice said today: "HMP Full Sutton prisoner Mariusz Krezolek was found unresponsive in his cell at 8.30am on Wednesday 27 January.
“Staff immediately attempted resuscitation but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
“As will all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons & Probation Ombudsman."
During her trial, Daniel's mother tried to paint a picture of herself as a victim who had been bullied and abused by her domineering boyfriend.
She told jurors she was raped and strangled by Krezolek if she tried to stop him dishing out punishment beatings to her young son.
But the claims were blatant lies - as was apparent when the pair first appeared before magistrates accused of Daniel's murder.
Far from being in fear of Krezolek, Luczak reached across the lap of a prison officer and held her lover's hand during the brief hearing in March 2012.
Detectives described her as having an "explosive" temper and said her claims she was dominated by Krezolek were "preposterous".
Luczak was born in Lodz, central Poland, in 1985 and grew up with her "dysfunctional" family in a small council flat.
One former school friend told the Mirror: "There was something about Magda that was not quite right.
"Her family were a bit weird, pathological even. I think her father was a drunk and she followed in his footsteps.
"She drank a lot and had quite a few boyfriends. She was always very self-centered, and everything was about her. She always put herself first."
She dropped out of school aged 17 after falling in love with a man almost twice her age - only to break up with him within six months.
In February 2006 she moved to Coventry to find work and began a relationship with Eryk Pelka, who she had previously known in Poland.
Luczak worked as a cleaner in nearby Kenilworth, Warks, and later sorted mail for Parcelforce at a depot near Coventry airport.
The couple shared a house with Luczak's sister, Sylwia, and in late 2006 she fell pregnant with Daniel.
Daniel's arrival in July of the following year should have been a happy time but their relationship was already at breaking point.
Eryk told jurors how Luczak - who would sometimes drink a bottle of vodka in one night - regularly beat him during "fierce arguments".
He said on one occasion after Daniel's birth Luczak grabbed a knife while they were both drunk at a party and he had contacted the police.
The Pole also said he regularly found his girlfriend drunk while looking after their young son.
Their relationship finally ended in late 2008 when Eryk discovered she had slept with one of his Polish friends who was living with them.
After he returned to Poland for good, Luczak began "sleeping around" with Polish men in Coventry.
However in December 2009 she met Mariusz Krezolek at a mutual friend's house and the pair quickly moved in together.
Krezolek told jurors their relationship was "wonderful" in the beginning but said she often "exploded" out of the blue.
He also accused her of deleting numbers from his phone in "jealous rages" and banning him from seeing female friends.
Instead the couple spent their evenings drinking vodka, smoking marijuana and taking amphetamines.
DI Chris Hanson, the detective who led the murder investigation, said she was "more calculating" than Krezolek.
"Knowing both of them and their personalities quite intimately, I would say between the two of them, she was probably the more calculating," he said.
"You have got to bear in mind as well that she is actually Daniel's mother. Daniel is her flesh and blood.
"She is a very strong character. She certainly wasn't a victim that was intimidated or scared or controlled by him in any way."
