Readers sound off on Lady Gaga, the presidential debate and abortion

Brooklyn: The May-December conflict between Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro and Lady Gaga reflects quintessential differences between 20th and 21st century attitudes toward marijuana and the entire drug war (“Staten Island Borough Prez calls Lady Gaga ‘a slut,’ ” NYDailyNews.com, Sept. 25). For those who came of age during the Cold War, as Molinaro did, the paranoia of the Red Scare became focused on a new enemy within: the dope fiend. I believe this is why Molinaro used a schoolyard epithet in his ungentlemanly outburst at the Queen of Pop. Lady Gaga, by contrast, was born in 1986, the beginning of the crack era. Her attitudes toward drugs are pragmatic and rational. In her recent statements, she correctly observed that smoking marijuana is much safer than drinking alcohol. Lady Gaga deserves to be lauded for common sense and bravery, not pilloried by an out-of-touch politician. Kenneth S. Toglia

Landslide for Mitt
Cincinnati: Mitt Romney so thoroughly dominated President Obama in the first debate that I suspect he would have won the swimsuit competition had there been one. Paul Bloustein
Mitt’s small idea
Mohegan Lake, N.Y.: Funding for PBS accounts for .0002% of the federal budget. That means that if your average federal taxes per year are $8,000, then $1.60 goes to support PBS. So, Mitt Romney’s grand plan to get us out of debt is to fire Big Bird and save $1.60? Genius. Super genius. Michael W. Domis
Barack’s bad night
Brooklyn: After his performance at Wednesday’s debate, Barack and Michelle Obama spent the evening of their 20th wedding anniversary dancing to: “There may be trouble ahead. Let’s face the music and dance.” Time for the President to do a little more studying and less fund-raising with Jay-Z and Beyoncé. It might even pay off for him to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at this time. Ed Greenspan
Running on empty
Newark: In order to have a debate, both parties have to argue their point of view and at least back it up with facts. Mitt Romney may have been more animated, but in substance, he lost. David Figueroa
Out of his depth
Brooklyn: The liberal media can no longer cover up President Obama’s failure as a leader. It was totally evident that he was unprepared in the debate with Mitt Romney. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Obama should go back to the classroom. Being President means hard work and being committed to the job every day. Leading from behind is not leading at all. It is only an excuse. A leader is out front. Mark Levine

Lady Gaga tweets 'naked' picture of herself reclining on an armchair
She recently caused a stir when she unveiled her new perfume ad, starring herself, naked, with only 'tiny men' crawling over her to protect her modesty.
But it appears Lady Gaga hasn't tired of baring flesh for her fans.
The 26-year-old tweeted a snap of herself apparently fully naked, sitting in an armchair, hugging her legs to her chest.

Nicki Minaj Launching Perfume This Fall
Nicki Minaj** will be the latest pop start to hit the fragrance market, according to WWD.
The "Beez in the Trap" rapper will debut her scene this fall, with help from Give Back Brands LLC, who also worked on Justin Bieber**'s fragrance, "Someday."
"I have always been a huge fan of great fragrances," Minaj said. "This is yet another extension of my creative expression and I can't wait to share it with the world. I designed this scent and bottle with my Barbz in mind; I know they will love it!"
Her scent will join recent offerings from Rihanna** and "Give Me All Your Luvin'" partner Madonna**, among others, with a scent from Lady Gaga** also expected later this year.
If her record sales are any indication, Minaj's latest venture should be another hit with her Barbz: sophomore album "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week, moving 253,000 copies.

Nicki Minaj Addresses Lady Gaga Comparisons: "We Are In Completely Different Lanes"
Enough with the Lady Gaga comparisons already. Nicki Minaj is setting the record straight.
Last night the rapper sat down with Juju Chang on ABC’s “Nightline,” where she was asked whether she takes offense to all the Mama Monster comparisons.
“Offend me? No. Irks me? Yeah, because we are in completely different lanes,” Nicki responded.
She continued, “First of all, I’m a rapper. First of all, I’m from Southside Jamaica, Queens, and I could say some really crazy lyrics right now, but I won’t.”
Nicki then flipped the script on Chang by asking what parallels she sees between the two artists.
“The wigs,” Chang pointed out. “The over-the-top costumes.”
“Every female in this game wears wigs,” Nicki retorted. “Over the top costumes? Eeh, try again.”

Nicki Minaj Talks Lady Gaga Comparison (Annoying) and Wardrobe Malfunctions (Devastating)
Nicki Minaj, whose performance at the Grammys this year was meant to shock and get people talking (let's see, where have we seen that before...), didn't appear to take kindly during her sit-down with Nightline to questions about the inevitable comparisons made between her and Lady Gaga.
At least, the interviewer certainly seemed to think the comparison was inevitable.
"Offends me, no. Irks me, yes," Minaj said when ABC's Juju Chang asked if the Lady Gaga comparisons do, indeed, offend the similarly flamboyant hip-hop star. "We are in completely different lanes."
"First of all," the "Super Bass" artist said defiantly, "I'm a rapper. I'm from southside Jamaica, Queens. I could say some really crazy lyrics right now, but I won't. Why don't I turn the cameras around and ask you?"
So, Chang, not wanting to point out that Lady Gaga's a native New Yorker, too, mentioned that they both wear wigs.
"Wigs?" Minaj retorted. "Every female in this game—every female in this game—wears wigs."
Um...the clothes, then?
"Over-the-top costumes?" she replied skeptically, making a buzzer sound. "Try again!"
Despite her aversion to being compared to Gaga, however, Minaj had kind things to say about her fellow star.
"Gaga's a fantastic artist, you know, she paved her way," she added. "She's opened her own lane. But I think that I have my own lane, and we never cross. Ever. So, you know, I really don't get the comparison anymore. Our music doesn't sound the same. Our stage presence is not the same. I just can't see the similarities."
A similarity she admits to, meanwhile, is the one between her Good Morning America performance last summer and her appearance on the Today show last week: she suffered nipple-flashing wardrobe malfunctions during both!
"That was devastating," Minaj said. "I feel bad...I always put myself in the parents' shoes when stuff like that happens. But I know that I would never, ever, ever—swear to God—do something like that on purpose."
"Sometimes I want to just pull the off-switch," she said of her rapid ascension up the fame ladder. "But you can't because if you go outside, you have to give people your all. You can't say, 'Oh, you know what? I'm not feeling good today.' No. No one's trying to hear that. When a woman comes up to you and says, 'Hey, my daughter's your biggest fan. Can we have a picture?' You can't say no."
True. All you can do is load up on the double-sided tape, take a deep breath and walk out that door.

Lady GaGa Topless Android for L’Uomo Vogue
Lady Gaga ended up tearing off her top during the photo shoot which features in the ‘Big Ones’ 2012 edition of L’Uomo Vogue. The wild New Yorker didn’t want to produce a standard fashion spread for a glossy magazine. Boring. That’s not how she rolls. So she decided to play by her own rules.
She was modeling an Yves Saint Laurent jacket, Chanel trousers and a Philip Treacy hat when all hell broke loose. The Born This Way singer suddenly decided she wanted to show some flesh. She ripped off her YSL – and it was all caught on camera.
That’s why she’s the master of shock value. Take a situation and turn it on it’s head. Guaranteed publicity and a few more records sold.
