No Malice to Pusha T: "Stop Picking on Drake"

No Malice seems to be living up to his new moniker. The older half of the Clipse wants his younger sibling, Pusha T, to stop "picking" on Drake.

During a recent interview with BET, No Malice was asked about his take on the subliminal lyrical jabs exchanged between his little brother and Drizzy. The born again Christian responded: "I want Pusha to stop picking on Drake, I like Drake. Yeah I like Drake, yo."

Last year, Pusha T released a freestyle over Drake's "Dreams Money Can Buy" instrumental, and one line in particular appeared to be a shot directly aimed at the "So Far Gone" MC. In the final verse of his rendition, the G.O.O.D. Music artist rapped, "the swag don't match the sweaters," which caused many to believe he was ridiculing Drake's eccentric sense of style.

When talk of a rumored beef between the two began to surface, Pusha T denied all accusations that the punchline was a diss directed at Drake.

In past interviews, Drake has referenced the Clipse as one of his main inspirations. When Vibe asked the Toronto native about the rumored subliminal jab, he answered: "I've been really open about my love for the Clipse. I don't know [why he dissed me], maybe that guy is bored."

In related news, No Malice is currently working on a solo mixtape entitled Hear Ye Him, and disclosed information to BET about his heavily-anticipated project.

"As far as features, you're definitely going to get The Re-Up **** of course, my brother (Pusha T), Ab-Liva definitely," he said. "I've been working with Chad from The Neptunes, and Pharrell also. Boi-1da, and myself are about to do something as well. The first single is titled Different."

No Malice also revealed that though he and Pusha are focusing on their solo career endeavors, a new, long-awaited Clipse album is already in the works.

"We're working on that now," he disclosed. "Collecting beats, writing verses, you know Pusha is everywhere right now so it's just a thing of matching up the scheduling, things of that nature. But the fans will definitely have music from Pusha and myself circulating about so we're not going to leave them empty handed."

No Malice had originally taken a hiatus from music to focus on writing his autobiography, Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind and Naked, which is in stores now. The MC is also planning on adding another title under his resume as an author, a book entitled 32, which symbolizes the amount of years his manager was sentenced to prison.

21-year-old man sentenced to one year in jail for stealing cable

It’s a lesson hard-learnt for 21-year-old Abubakar Sani who was today sentenced to 12 months in jail for stealing an armoured cable.

According to agency reports, Sani was sentenced in an Abuja Upper Area Court by Justice Adamu Wakili, but was also given an out – the option to pay a N6,000 fine to skip the harsher sentence.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Ambi Ayuba, said Sani had confessed his guilt in the crimes during investigation and was charged with joint act and theft.

Ayuba told the court the crime had been reported at the Garki Police Station in Abuja on 26 March and the convict had not been acting alone.

Two other suspects, now at large, were with Sani when the trio went into the National Stadium in Abuja and stole the armoured cable, destroying it as they attempted to cut it off.

Supreme Court sentences a PHCN staff to death by hanging

The Supreme Court on Wednesday approved the death by hanging of a security guard, Stephen Haruna working with the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) over his alleged murder of an Assistant General Manager in the Legal department of the same company, Sussana Igwe.

Following police investigations, Mr Haruna admitted killing her boss, Ms Igwe and was consequently charged with murder before an Abuja High Court.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to death.

Supreme Court sentences a PHCN staff to death by hanging over his alleged involvement in the murder of an Assistant General Manager in the Legal department of the same company

He, however, challenged the judgment on appeal. When the Court of Appeal affirmed the High court’s decision he took the matter to the Supreme Court.
Justice Suleiman Galadima who wrote the lead judgment that was concurred by four other justices, said there was overwhelming evidence to uphold the conviction of Mr Haruna.

”In the face of overwhelming evidence against the appellant, I cannot upturn the concurrent findings of the trial court and the Court of Appeal, when the appellant has failed to demonstrate that the said concurrent findings were perverse and could not be supported, having regard to the evidence adduced by the Prosecutor,” Justice Galadima said.

He added that one of Mr Haruna’s girlfriends, Mary Jimoh, testified that the money he stole from Ms Igwe was deposited with her.

Although, the convict made three confessional statements to the police in the course of investigations, he later retracted one of them.

The justice held that even if the third statement was discountenanced, Haruna could still be and was rightly convicted. According to him, the appellant’s confessional statement was corroborated by the discovery of stolen money he took to his girlfriend at Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja for safe keep.
Veteran actor, Prince James Uche who has been battling diabetes and hypertension that left him almost bedridden for two years now is homeless at the moment.

The tough-talking actor has been kicked  out of their Gbagada, Lagos residence by his wife, Ekene  who  claimed to be tired of running the affairs of their family all alone.

The displaced actor is currently squatting in a white-garment-Church, located near his former Gbagada home in Lagos. He is calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to come to his rescue.

*James Uche

WG gathered  that Uche’s wife, a seamstress in Gbagada,  allegedly got fed up with her husband’s endless predicament after two years of single-offhandedly fending for the family, resulting in her reaching the drastic decision to throw him out of their house.

A source close to the couple said trouble started for the Abia state-born  actor, when he recently returned to Lagos after spending more than a year in his home town, in Abia State. He had gone to seek alternative solution to his protracted ailment only to return to Lagos, to meet his  wife a changed person.

He was said to be practically having  issues  with her  almost on daily basis  since stepping into their rented apartment.

“While he was sick, his wife took over the responsibility of catering for the family, including paying the children’s  school fees. So, when he returned to Lagos recently after spending more than a year in Abia State, his wife couldn’t stand him any more.

The situation forced the actor to relocate to a nearby white garment Church, in Gbagada. It was in the said Church he allegedly received healing from his illness. “The Church serves as his current abode” narrated our source.

Given his present condition, Prince Uche who has been off the screen for sometimes now, and almost impoverished following his protracted illness is calling on Nigerian to help save his marriage from hitting the rock as well as rehabilitating him. He does not want his marriage to crash because of his inability to fend for his family.

According to him, since his illness started two years ago, he has not featured in any movie, adding that his desire is to stay together with his wife to train their three children.

His words  “Í don’t want my marriage to crash. I’m once again calling on Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State to come to my rescue. He responded well by paying my hospital bill the last time I was on admission. Though God has healed me, I sincerely need help.”

Prince James Uche, two years ago was diagnosed to be suffering from diabetes and hypertension. He spend over eight months at PAX Medical Clinic located in Ijesha-Tedo, Surulere, Lagos, where  he was unable to upset his medical bills until Governor Theodore Orji  of Abia State  came to rescue, courtesy  of Saturday Vanguard reports on his predicaments.

Still recuperating from the illness, Prince Uche relocated to the eastern part of the country about a year ago to seek for alternative solution to his ordeal.  He returned to Lagos recently to reunite with his family, only to be kicked out of the home by a wife who stood by him  even  when  his condition  was unbearable.

Genesis of his ordeal could be traced to when  he collided with a BRT bus in the Anthony Village area of Lagos in 2010. The father of three children, recalled that after colliding with the bus, the next thing “I noticed was that my leg began to swell. And since the incident happened, I have visited several Churches and hospitals to no avail”.

Today what Prince Uche thought was a minor injury has surpassed his wildest dream. With no solution in sight only the aid of well meaning Nigerians can make the difference in the life of the veteran actor

Conductor jailed 10 yrs for illegal arms possession

ASABA—A Delta State High Court sitting at Akwukwu-Igbo, has sentenced a bus conductor, Augustine Nwankwo, to 10 years imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms.

The trial judge, Justice H. Akpotowho, sentenced the convict to jail with an option of  N20,000 fine, after pleading guilty to a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms, an offence punishable under Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R.II Volume 14, Laws of Nigeria 2004.

Prosecutor, Mr. P. Okoh, told the court that the convict was arrested on December 19, 2009, at Ibusa and was in possession of one locally made pistol and one cut to size single barrel gun, and pleaded not guilty at the commencement of trial in 2010.

But at the last hearing in the matter, the convict changed his plea and entered a  guilty plea to the two- count charge.

Tinubu, Fashola Clash At Birthday Colloquium

Governor Babatunde Fashola and Bola Tinubu :

"If there's no partiality, you cannot be governor yourself," Mr. Tinubu tells Mr. Fashola.

The Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, got a rude shock from his principal and predecessor, Bola Tinubu, Wednesday after he tried to make a case for disgruntled party members.

Mr. Fashola, one of the speakers at the 4th annual Bola Tinubu Colloquium, an event organized to mark the former Lagos State governor's 60th birthday; said that he had been asked by the lower cadre members of the party to prevail on the celebrant to dispense "justice equally" to all members.

Mr. Tinubu refused

"If there's no partiality, you cannot be governor yourself," he told Mr. Fashola, adding that he had not regretted choosing him as governor.

"Ask them not to give me the task, that I'll not be able to deliver," said Mr. Tinubu.

"What I'd done consistently in the past, why would I want to change at 60?

"I've succeeded with that behaviour and sorry I'll not deviate from it," he added.

Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Emeka Anyaoku, had called on Nigeria to return to true federalism if it must make progress.

"I do believe that a true, rather than our current unitarist federalism, will better promote peace, stability, and development in Nigeria," said Mr. Anyaoku, a former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

"There can be no doubt that Nigeria was making progress in national development in the early years of its independence when it practiced true federalism of four regions with more extensive powers deployed from the centre to the regions.

"Those were the days of the significant export of groundnuts, hides and skins, and the tin ore from the North; of cocoa from the West; of rubber from the Mid-West; and palm produce and coal from the East of Nigeria," said Mr. Anyaoku.

Political heavyweights meet

The colloquium, which held under a heavy police presence at the Eko Hotel and Suites, was a gathering of political heavyweights across the country.

Adams Oshiomhole and Lucky Igbinedion, present and former Edo State governors; Diepreye Alamieseigha, former Bayelsa State governor; Rauf Aregbesola, Osun State governor; Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, Niger State governor; Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives.

A bent Maitama Sule, a presidential candidate in the 1979 election, stepped into the venue about 30 minutes late and the praise singers, stationed at the entrance, rolled out their drums.

The octogenarian struggled to shuffle a few feet as he was helped up the three-step staircase that led into the venue.

Mr. Tinubu, arrived over an hour late and proceeded to give a high five to Mr. Igbinedion and other top politicians at the event.

Mr. Anyaoku noted that he accepted to honour the invitation "because of what the man in whose honour it is organized represents."

"Bola Tinubu was of an effective advocate and a dedicated activist for the return of democracy and restitution of Chief M.K.O Abiola's presidential election in Nigeria," said Mr. Anyaoku, who arrived 15 minutes before the 3 p.m scheduled time of the event.

Lagos' battles

With Ade Ipaye, the Attorney-General of Lagos State; and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a member of the House of Representatives; introducing the speakers for the day; the colloquium delved into graphic presentations of some landmark achievements in the state from 1997 till date.

"Hardly anybody gave us a chance, but on reflections, it was an extremely daunting challenge," said Yemi Cardoso, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget during Mr. Tinubu's administration.

In his presentation 'Public Finance in an Emerging Megapolis,' Wale Edun, a former Commissioner for Finance, noted how the state grew its internally generated revenue from N600 million in 1999 to more than N15 billion in 2011.

Leke Pitan, a Commissioner during the celebrant's administration, spoke at length on the reforms in the education and health sector since 1999; from provision of free anti malaria and ante natal drugs to building "mega" schools before it was cut short by the audience applauding him in mid speech.

Yemi Osinbajo reminisced about his first meeting with Mr. Tinubu in April 1999 and the state's various litigation with the federal government.

"The creation of the 37 local government councils in 2002 was probably the defining moment in the struggle for true federalism," said Prof. Osinbajo, a former Attorney-General of Lagos State.

Rauf Aregbesola, the Osun State governor, who periodically threw the audience into fits of laughter while speaking on 'Politics: The People First' called on the Action Congress of Nigeria to "throw out" whoever is not ready for the task ahead.

"Lagos is gradually turning out to be that city that we are proud of but it was a lot of effort...

"I would not want to elaborate because when I elaborate, I get myself overworked.

"Our new task is reconstruction of our reclaimed territory," said Mr. Aregbesola.

Mr. Fashola, while delivering the last speech for the evening, said that the state would enforce the legislation to collect taxes.

"How can 2.5 million people be paying taxes in a state of over 20 million people? That is not sustainable," said Mr. Fashola.

The occasion also witnessed the presentation of the book 'Asiwaju: Leadership in Troubled Times'.

About N50 million cash was realized from the sale of the book at the event, with most of the guest preferring to disclose their donations privately.

The organizers said that the proceeds from the sales would be channeled into a fund, the Bola Tinubu Institute for Good Governance.

Actors protest against piracy in Lagos

Members of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, (ANTP), on Wednesday gathered at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, Lagos, bearing placards to protest against piracy.

The protesters, including Jide Kosoko, Funke Akindele, Antar Laniyan, among other popular Yoruba actors, gathered to call for the complete shutting down of the popular Alaba International Market, Lagos, which according to them, is the breeding ground of piracy in the entertainment industry.

The protest kicked off from the premises of Lagos Arts and Culture Centre at Radio bus stop, Ikeja before heading to the State House.
While carrying out the protest, security men blocked the actors from gaining access into the house of assembly premises in a bid to protect the activities taking place to mark the 60th birthday of a former governor of Lagos State and ACN leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Also, Police allegedly used tear gas and fired shots in the air to disperse the protesters.

Wife fights husband (who is a pastor) for watching "Blue Movies"

Kolade Adeleke who is the Senior Pastor of Christ Army Prayer Ministry in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has asked a Customary Court to dissolve his 12-year-old marriage with his wife, Roseline, on the ground of frequent fighting.

However wife, Roseline said she was forced to fight because of some attitudinal changes in her husband toward her.
She accused her husband of frequently watching of pornography films, as well as intention to marry another lady in the church “who has been looking for a husband for years”.

Adeleke on the other hand,  accused his wife of constituting a nuisance both at home and in the church; especially because she was also fond of fighting him, even in the public.

He, however, urged the court to grant him the custody of their three children.

Roseline told the court that due to the crisis, she and her husband had not been staying together for the last three months.

She tendered evidence to prove that she sponsored the establishment of the church to the court and said her husband could not leave after all what she had done for him. “After all I have done for my husband, he cannot just decide now to leave me and take away our three children,” she said.

Adeleke, however, did not deny the allegations but urged the court to use its discretion in judging the matter.

The President of the Court, Olatunji Kanimodo, reserved ruling on the matter till April 23.

He said, thinking that the boy had died, Tukur fled to an unknown destination.

“But my son managed and crawled home where he narrated what happened”, he said.

‘Okada’ riders on rampage in Lagos over death of colleague

Pandemonium broke out Monday at Oko-Oba,  Agege area of Lagos State when hoodlums numbering over a hundred stormed the streets, protesting the killing of one of their colleagues by an irate mob for alleged robbery.

Reports say the deceased who was also suspected to be insane attacked residents of  number 7, Adeketu Street, Oko-Oba at midnight with cutlass, banging on the door and injured some of them in an attempt to rob them. Fortunately, he was overpowered by the residents who later handed him over to the vigilante group in the street.  The group, on their part, tied  him till the following day when they would take him to Abattoir Police Station.

Crime Alert gathered that the robbery suspect, unfortunately, gave up the ghost before daybreak. The development, however, sparked off strong protest by his colleagues said to be members of commercial motorcycle riders association popularly called okada.

Armed with dangerous weapons, such as guns, cutlasses, axes and planks, they reportedly stormed the area around 7 am on Monday, unleashing mayhem on the residents while several people were seriously injured during the rampage.

Reports also said the armed miscreants  invaded some apartments and looted properties which monetary value  are yet to be ascertained including huge sums of money carted away from traders and  residents of the areas.

Eyewitnesses said the looted properties by the miscreants ranged from Television sets, Radio, Video CD, Video Games, mobile phones and decorated bulbs. They were also said to have destroyed some heavy properties which they could not easily loot after which they openly threatened to carry out more attacks in the area.

Meanwhile, the threats by the miscreants had thrown confusion into the areas, making most of the residents to desert their houses located at Folorunsho, Adebari, Ilogbo Streets and Egbatedo Road.

One of the victims who narrowly escaped death in the hands of the hoodlums identified as Mr. Segun Akinoyode shed more light on the incident. He said: “I was inside my room when suddenly, I heard noise from outside and that was around 4am but I didn’t come out, not until in the morning .

I was so afraid because the noise was too much. I learnt that the man who died was beaten and matcheted to death. I was told that before the man died, some people had reported the case at Abattoir Police Station . I also learnt that the man sustained injuries before he started behaving like a mad person and broke the door of number 7, Adeketu Street, vandalizing everything.

People wondered what was wrong with the man after stories spread that he had earlier jumped into the sucker away and later came out. During that period, some security guards in the street interfered and  later tied him with a rope. Later in the morning, I learnt that the man died.”

He continued, “Later in the day, a group of riders who were three on each bike and armed with cutlasses and guns started inflicting injuries on anybody they sighted. They were more than hundred in number. And during the stampede that followed, many people were seriously injured, both those who were cut by the hoodlums and those trying to jump fences and escape for their life.

Yet, the hoodlums were threatening to come back at night until they kill one person that would follow the deceased before they put everything on rest. It only took the intervention of God for me not to be shot dead because they invaded our house and my door is the next to be entered when I jumped fence. Now that they were threatening of more attacks, we can not take that for granted because those hoodlums who caused much havoc in these areas can also kill.

Another victim, a food seller, Mrs. Afolabi popularly called Iya Afusat who lost N27,500 and both cooked and bags of raw food stuffs during the stampede narrated her ordeal. “In fact, those hoodlums had caused me a lot of problems now.

All the money I kept in my wardrobe, they have stolen it. I kept N21.000 and N6,500 separately. The N21.000 was a daily contribution kept with me while the N6,500 was the sales I made this morning. The hoodlums poured away my soup, cooked rice and beans which were meant for sales.

Also, many crates of  raw eggs were broken including raw rice and beans poured into the gutter. The bread I just collected in the morning were also poured into the gutter. Those hoodlums destroyed my properties and made me to run into debt.

I didn’t offend them. I only came out in the morning to make my daily sales only for me to see them with cutlasses, guns and axes, saying that the residents of this area had killed their member. And what I knew was that one mad person invaded number 7, Adeketu Street and he was detained and later died.

I didn’t know the time of the incident, I was asleep then because the incident happened at midnight. So, I want government to help me because I have ran into debt now. Bags of raw rice and beans I bought on credit had been poured into the gutter including meat, fishes and raw eggs,” she stated.

A civil servant, Mr. Akinbode Akinloye who owned a game center in the area also recounted his ordeal According to him, “This morning, I was at work at Alausa when I received calls that some of my properties have been carted away and others destroyed by some Okada riders; that they injured many people and destroyed houses including my shop.

So, I quickly went to Abattoir Police Station to report the case and when I got there, I was asked to write a statement which I did. Till now, the police have not provided any solution or made arrests and those hoodlums were still vowing to carry out more attacks in the area, even to kill people because of one mad person.

The funniest part of it is that when the hoodlums came for the second attack around 12 noon, policemen were on ground with their vehicles without making any arrest or preventing them from injuring people. I was actually badly affected because they took away some of my properties and destroyed my shop.

I was perplexed over the situation and the way police is handling the matter because they have not made any arrest of the hoodlums, instead they arrested innocent people and a nursing mother was among them,”he stated.

When Crime Alert visited the affected areas around 2: 45pm same day, broken bottles and shattered windows and two police vehicles with policemen were seen in the areas.

When contacted the Lagos State Police spokesman, SP Jaiyeoba Joseph, said he has not been informed of the incident. But when  Crime Alert visited Abattoir Police Station around 2:15 pm Monday, the DCO declined comment and said, “I’m so sorry, I’m not in authority to give any information on the incident and my DPO who may speak with you is not around”. Meanwhile, seven residents of the area including a nursing mother  who were detained when they  went to Abattoir Police Station to report  the incident were seen in the police station.

ORPHANAGE BUSINESS BY STELLA DAMASUS

Forgive me if this article offends or affects you, I am just speaking from the heart, thoughts, experience and research.

Phew! Since that is settled, let me proceed into this world of business which has become very lucrative, though this side of it is being swept under the carpet.

I remember vividly a few years ago during Christmas, my kids and I were at home. Later that day, my first daughter walked up to me and asked why we were home just eating, watching movies, praying and playing dress up as usual. I told her that we had fun the previous day and the day before that, so I wondered what she wanted. She stylishly reminded me that most of her cousins had travelled, others were at a resort, some friends were at the park, some have gone swimming and the list was long. I turned and told her that she should be grateful that she has a roof over her head, she has more than enough to eat and drink, she had family and a parent who loves her to bits. I saw the look on her face and an idea popped up in my head. You see, I learnt that with children, words don’t work for them all the time, they do better with pictures and experiences.

I remembered that during one of our sessions at the Project Alert Shelter, I was introduced to three young girls who were abused by their own father and could not be saved by their mother who was a foreigner. I remembered that as the court battle raged, the three girls were taken to an orphanage, even though I had volunteered to take care of them till the end of the court case.

Anyway, I decided that to teach my children more about appreciation, I will take them to an orphanage so they can see other kids who have nothing but appreciate what little they have. I also wanted an opportunity to see the three lovely girls again.

We went out to a nearby market and bought rice, oil, packed up clothes that we could give out and other things we didn’t need anymore and drove to the orphanage. When we got there, we asked one of the matrons who we could see and where we could drop the things we brought.

She quickly asked me to bring out everything and follow her; then she called other women who were working there to assist us.

As we got to the store, I was overwhelmed, because there was no space to even stand. The room looked like a warehouse filled with goods that a whole city could feast on. It really made me happy because I began to love Nigerians more for their love and care for the less-privileged, seeing all they had been contributing.

There was no space to put the gifts we had brought, so they took me to the back of the store where there were other things on the floor that could not fit in there.

I was filled with so much joy, and in the excitement I told them my children would love to see the kids there and share some pencils and erasers themselves. But they said it was not possible and asked me to go and come back some other time. So I threatened to report them to the appropriate authorities; it was a festive season and people should be allowed to show love and spend time with these children. After some minutes of really causing a scene, we were finally allowed to see the children. I would not normally do that if I had not noticed two children who had peeped when we were walking in, and kept waving at us. I just could not stop thinking about them, so I had to insist.

Well, this is where my story begins and I am sure some of you have the same story to tell.

They then suggested that we stayed in front of the hostels so that they can call everybody out to receive the gifts. For some reason, I insisted that they should allow me into the rooms, but my children could stay out with my cousin and give out the gifts.

As I walked into the boys ward, I immediately understood why they had been reluctant to let us see them. The odour oozing out of that room was enough to make a pig run mad. I saw some of the boys looking really skinny and unkempt, their sheets were old and dirty, no books nor toys around them, especially the little ones. My heart broke and my throat began to hurt as I struggled to hold back the tears. In anger, I stormed out and walked straight into the girls accomodations. Oh, trust me, this time my head was spinning, I thought I was going to pass out. In order not to offend sensitive people reading this, I will restrain from giving a vivid picture of what I saw, smelt and experienced. Only God knows what would have happened if I had entered their toilets.

I came out to where the kids had gathered and there I spotted my three lovely girls. I hugged them so tight to the point that the matron started wondering what the connection was. From wondering, it turned to obvious unease because she was not sure what I would find out. I took the oldest of them aside and asked her what was going on, and why they were all looking sick and funny. She said they were only given food when their caretakers were satisfied. I didn’t understand that, so I told her that I could not accept her story because of the overfull warehouse I saw. She laughed and said, “aunty you don’t know that you people have been bringing gifts and food for their own homes and children. We see the amount of things people bring regularly, especially during festive periods but at night when they are going home, they share most of these things and take them home”.

She added that, “aunty if you want me to be alive, please don’t say I told you anything”. I promised her and went to see the matron, and before I opened my mouth to talk, she started telling me how difficult the job can be, how the work takes them away from their families and other things, how tasking it can be to take care of other people’s children. I got so angry that I said: “Madam, did anyone force you to sign up for this job?”

She could not answer me, so I told her that I didn’t really understand why people donate so much but it does not reflect on these children.

It’s amazing how we create wrong impressions of ourselves in this country. Nigerians actually give, especially to orphans but go to some of these orphanages, year-in-year-out they are the same, and it then seems like nobody cares, not realising that the people who run some of these homes are just greedy.

I took my kids and we got into the car, as we drove out of there, they were both crying and talking about some of the kids they interacted with.

My second daughter actually said: “Mummy, can’t we take them out of that terrible place and bring them to our house? I can sleep on the floor so some of them can take my bed, I can also share my toys with them.” I told her that if it were possible, I would gladly do it. Then she asked me why I can’t take, even if it’s just one or two at least. I laughed it off but it got me thinking. So, I called Aunty Josephine of Project Alert and lamented bitterly about my experience at the orphanage. She was so upset and we both agreed that at the next hearing, we would tell the judge that we want to take care of them till they reached a final verdict.

I spoke to a lawyer who said I may not get the court to allow me to temporarily take care of the two younger girls, but the older girl was old enough to decide where she wants to go. So, I quickly went to the orphanage again and told the matron I needed to discuss the girls’ case, so she should let me see her. They gave me ten minutes to speak with her, and I asked her what she wanted. She replied that she would love to stay with her siblings, but she also knows that her being in there would not help her case. She was the only one who could testify against her father and so she had to be safe and healthy in order to win the case so that another family can take care of them.

I went to meet the matron to discuss adoption, and that was where part two of my story began.

She said: “Madam, I hope you are ready for this and not give up because you know that you might be on this adoption process for two years”. I asked why she said that, and when she started telling me what I had to do just to adopt a child and not to build a church with three hundred naira only, I knew something was wrong somewhere. That was when I decided to start investigating some of these orphanages.

In a week, I discovered over 20 orphanages in Ikeja and they had plenty of children. Every other street has one hidden orphanage. Then, I wondered why people didn’t like adopting children, because I know a lot of people who really want to adopt kids. I asked a few people whom I knew wanted children why they have not thought of adoption. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just about the society and the stigma, it’s the fact that these orphanages make it humanly impossible for you to adopt the kids.

And they make sure you get frustrated. This is what I found out: Orphanages are entitled to grants from foreign organisations and most of them have offices in Ghana, South Africa and Kenya. Once you are a registered orphanage, you can apply for funds that they will sent monthly. In Nigeria too, the government makes sure that they adopt some of these orphanages, thereby sending them money for school, food and other basic amenities. At least, I know of one in Lekki that the former Governor of the State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu adopted, and all the children there started bearing his name.

The catch is that you must have a certain number of children that you are taking care of to qualify for the grants, and to be adopted.
I never would have believed it if I had not gone there to try and adopt, I have also sent other people to go and try, and they all have different stories to tell.

However, I must point out here that not all of them are the same. There are some credible ones that I have visited personally, and it gave me hope that there are still a group of people who really do care, places like Heritage Homes, SOS Children’s Village and others. I also give kudos to Mr and Mrs Femi Akintunde Johnson who set up Angel of Hope. They have shown so much love and support for these children.

I went to Heritage Homes some years ago and I was so happy with the quality of life and attention the kids were getting. Merely seeing the pictures of when the kids were brought in and how transformed they now are, proved that they are for real.

The next phase of my story will be in another article, but just to give you a small idea: I also discovered that some of these women who carry two to three children at the same time under the sun to beg for money actually rent these children from some orphanages and they split the proceeds at the end of the day. More gist later o.

Truth is, I know that I will face a lot or criticisms, insults, threats and what have you. I have to speak the truth from what I have experienced and I advise that the government should send people to check out most of these orphanages because we are talking about the lives of children here, most of whom have been deprived of love, affection and attention.

Currensy Sues Damon Dash for $1.5 Million; Dash's Attorney Responds

On Sunday (March 25), news broke that Curren$y ** had filed a lawsuit against Damon Dash ** for releasing his material without permission.

In 2010, Spitta and Dash were working on an agreement to release music on Dash's label, DD172, according to TMZ However, the deal was never solidified, and Curren$y signed with Warner Bros in early 2011. Allegedly Dash continued to release music of the New Orleans rhymesayer, despite Warner's exclusive rights to Curren$y's material, leading to his lawsuit claiming $1.5 million in damages for the unauthorized release. Dash has claimed Curren$y backed out of their agreement in 2010 and signed with Warner instead.
In response, Dash's attorney, Joshua E. Seidman, has issued a statement in attempt to shed light on the situation. In the statement, Seidman notes that Dash's initial reaction "was that of surprise," particularly regarding "Curren$y's numerous statements that the 'Muscle Car Chronicles' would be released by BluRoc." "Chronicles," which dropped last month, was released on Dash's BluRoc label. Seidman revealed Dame and Curren$y were in Federal Court on March 15 for "a preliminary injection seeking to enjoin [Seidman's] client from the continued distribution of the 'Muscle Car Chronicles.'" But apparently, Curren$y's application was denied by the judge, leaving "Chronicles" to remain available through retailers.

Seidman continued to say that Dash "wishes Curren$y the best in all his future career endeavors," he still "has expressed a deep concern with respect to the manner in which [Curren$y's team] have conducted themselves" and voiced concerns that Curren$y is being misled into "making unwise decisions."

It seems the waters have only gotten muddier.

Nas Speaks On Promoter's Kidnapping

Early this year, Nas was surrounded by some controversy when a concert promoter claimed that he and his son were kidnapped because the Queens MC didn't show up for a gig in Africa. On MTV's RapFix Live, which airs at 4 p.m. today (March 28), Nasty speaks on the incident.

"I didn't want to touch on it because it seemed like he was in grave danger out there," he told MTV. "He wanted me to come to Africa for New Years which, to me, I thought would be the best way to Spend New Years. He booked the flight, but no return flight. I didn't have a Visa, and you didn't send money until after I was supposed to jump on the plane to another country. He was in some crazy danger in Africa, so he threw me under the bus."

According to MTV, the promoter, Patrick Allocco, refutes that story. "Nothing could be further from the truth," he said. "Nas put us in harm's way by not showing up and put my son and I at physical harm and at risk by his inaction to fly to Angola." Allocco also claimed, according to a previous report by TMZ, that Nas and scheduled opener Jemiah Jai were paid $315,000 to perform two shows. "The hope is that Nas and Jemiah Jai will return all of the monies that were wired to them immediately so that our ransom may be paid and our safe return to the United States may be facilitated," Allocco said back in January. Ultimately, the Def Jam rapper did just that, and the promoter was steered out of harm's way.

"That was just all wrong. Any time I'm supposed to go to Africa, it happens," Nas continued. "When people take care of business, it happens...You booked the flight but no return flight. I didn't have a visa, and you didn't send money till after I was supposed to jump on the plane to another country, and that's just the way it went down."

Freeway and Beanie Sigel Praise Jay-Z

During a recent interview with Montreality,Freeway says that he still has love for his former boss Jay-Z and that Hova still supports him. The Philly rapper also said that he wishes to work with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Nas and Kendrick Lamar before he puts down the mic.

"That's the big homie," he said about Jigga. "Supports me 100 percent. Jay was one of my favorite artists anyway, even before I signed."

Aside from Jay, there are other artists he admires and hopes to collaborate with soon.

"I've been in the game for a minute, I haven't gotten a chance to work with Dre," he said. "Definitely want to do with Dre and Em. I want to do something with Kendrick Lamar. He's an artist who challenged the game and came with something different. I want to work with Nas, before it's all said and done."

Freeway's former label mate, Beanie Sigel also spoke out recently about Jay-Z, whom he had a highly-publicized falling out with back in 2009.

"We had a litte misunderstanding," he explained during an interview with Power 95.3. "[It was a] situation where I couldn't get to him, so I had to via emceeing. And that was it. At the end of the day, Jay, that's my brother, and will forever be my brother."

Freeway and Beanie Sigel were the faces of Roc-A-Fella in the early 2000's and were the lyrical assassins Hova would go to when the God Emcee would still engage in a beef or two.

Times have changed and Jay is busy with his new label, Roc Nation, and the artists on it, including J. Cole and Rita Ora.

Nigerian grandma, others languishing in Brazilian prisons

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said on Tuesday that a 72-year-old grandmother, 13 women and 443 other Nigerians are currently languishing in jail in Brazil for drug-related offences.

Dabiri-Erewa, at a media briefing in Lagos, said the findings were made during a fact-finding mission to the South American country last week by the committee which included its Deputy-Chairman, Betty Appiafi and a member, Abdulrahman Terab.

She explained that a Non-Governmental Organisaton, Youths Without Borders, run by Taiwo and Kehinde Afolabi residing in Brazil, had earlier raised concern over the rising cases of Nigerian women serving jail terms for drug-related cases in Brazil.

The lawmaker explained that the grandma, named Fausat Aosede, said she was assisted to Brazil by one Patricia for medical treatment.

Aosede was quoted to have claimed that she was asked to deliver a bag to someone in Nigeria when the treatment was no longer feasible but was arrested in September last year at the airport in Brazil when drugs were discovered in the bag.

According to Dabiri-Erewa, the committee was able to get an NGO, named IITA in Brazil, to place her on house arrest instead of prison.

She added that the Director, Department of Immigrations, Ministry of Justice, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Dr. Izaura Miranda, who said the laws of the country had to be obeyed, noted that the lawyers would act speedily on her case since she was yet to be tried.

Miranda also noted that the country’s law does not allow individuals above 70 years to be remanded in prison.

Other women arrested for drug cases are Lara Salami (62), Theresa Ezezue (60), Vivian Ajibua (57), Moronranri Afolayan (48), Vivian Etuwe (31), Ajibola Olajumoke (36) and Amina Yussuf (51).

Dabiri-Erewa added that only three among the women denied involvement in the act while the remaining admitted committing the offence.

Lamenting that such development was not good for the country’s image, the lawmaker added that it was important for Nigeria to address the issues plaguing the country to make it a pride of place for its nationals.

She said, ‘‘the most important thing is that we have to put our country right. The 72-year-old woman was said to have a visa which expired the day after she got to Brazil. There were no dry eyes among the inmates when members of the committee visited them at The Sao Paulo Women’s Prison.

“Poverty is not an excuse to get involved in illicit trade.’

Man jailed for refusing to pay toll at Lekki

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos has sentenced a 39-year-old man, Rozer Oladimeji, to a week imprisonment for refusing to pay at the Lekki-Epe Expressway toll gate.

Oladimeji drove a red Toyota Jeep with   number plate LND 607 AC about 3:51pm on March 18 and refused to pay the compulsory N120 toll.

The accused sped past the toll collection point of the expressway before the bar blocked the way after a vehicle had passed.

He was however apprehended later in the day around 8.10pm when he was returning by toll officers and security operatives on the outward bound lane of the expressway

The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Rozer Oladimeji, at about 3.51pm at the Toll Plaza, on Lekki-Epe Expressway, Eti Osa Local Government Area, drove a Toyota Jeep and refused to pay the toll when it was lawfully demanded from you.

“That you, Oladimeji, drove the vehicle in a reckless manner on a public highway.”

Oladimeji was charged with two counts of reckless driving and refusal to pay a lawful toll to which he pleaded guilty.

Police prosecutor, Mr. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence contravened sections 18(1) and 67(1) Cap 124 Vol. 6 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.

Magistrate A. A. Famobiwo found Oladimeji guilty as charged and sentenced him to a week imprisonment.

Famobiwo, however, gave him an option of N5, 000 fine.

LOSS OF SLEEP KILLS

Health experts have warned that loss of sleeping hours, untreated sleep disorders which include snoring and sleepwalking can result to hypertension, mental challenges and worst of all, sudden death.

An Associate Professor and Consultant Neurologist at the College of Medicine, Lagos University Teaching Hospital,Njideka Okubadejo, who spoke at a forum tagged ‘Breathe Easily, Sleep Well,’ in Lagos, stated that research has shown that 10 per cent of the world’s population suffers from one or more sleeping disorders.

According to Dr. Okubadejo, adults that fall into the category of not breathing well at night, snoring, sleeping late or not getting much sleep, are liable to suffer breathing problems, which results in cognitive and mental challenges during the day.

She noted that children who sleep late, snore and do not get enough sleep would experience disorders including sleepwalking and talking which would result in behavioral, cognitive and urinary problems.

“We have discovered that many breathing disorders that affect the brain occur during sleep, …and this affects many Nigerians…People who suffer this would be sleepy during the day, they cannot solve problems. Children who do not sleep long enough, snore or have breathing problems at night would be hyperactive in the day; they cannot interact well with their peers and may likely bed-wet.” she said.

The experts identified obesity, poor sleeping hours, alcohol consumption, smoking and the presence of adenoids, tonsils and allergens as factors that predispose people to sleep disorders.

There is no doubt that most adults are not getting enough sleep as they should these days due to the demands of the 21st century but recent developments have shown that children also lack enough sleep.
“It used to be adults that were not getting enough sleep, now children are not sleeping at all. Parents want to drive children the way society drives them and schools are helping them with after school hour’s programmes that would engage them till their parents have time for them” Dr. Okubadejo said, blaming highly-tasking academic schedule which schools and parents have fashioned out for children as reasons why children do not have enough time to sleep nowadays.
The Consultant, Ear and Throat Surgeon at the Surgery Department of LUTH, Dr. Chinyere Asoegwu, who also spoke at the forum identified snoring as the biggest sleeping disorder in the country and urged parents to treat sleepwalking, talking and hallucination in their children and desist from associating such disorders with myths or social beliefs.

“Sleeping disorder is a leading cause of sudden death during sleep, especially in infants and elderly people…No sleep disorder is mild. A popular musician once died because of addiction to sleeping pills. Let us create time to sleep now, so you will not have to use drugs to put you to sleep when you are in your 50’s.” She warned

29-Year-Old Man Rapes 19-Year-Old Sister-In-Law To Death

29-year-old Titus Ime raped his in-law, a 19-year-old woman identified as Blessing John, to death.

The incident occurred in a forest at Epe. The suspect allegedly trailed Blessing to her father's farm, where he raped her to death.

Ime, reporting the incident, said he assaulted Blessing due to her refusal to date him. The rapist cum murderer blamed his dastardly act on his "great love" for the deceased.

"I just moved to Lagos from Akwa -Ibom State to look for a job when I met Blessing. She is my in-law, as my uncle is married to her elder sister," he said.

"As soon as I set my eyes on her, I fell in love with her but I kept it to myself. When I could not bear it anymore, I went to her to declare my love for her but she turned me down. I kept pestering her but she refused blatantly that she did not love me; this made me angry."

Ime added that despite Blessing's refusal to date him, he had to device a means to force her to have sex with him.

"I did not intend to kill Blessing but my feeling for her was very strong. So after monitoring her movement for some time, I discovered that she goes to the farm to uproot cassava in the evening with her father. That day, I trailed her from her house to the forest. She was alone and she did not know I was following her, when she got into the dense forest and there was no one in sight, I ran ahead of her and grabbed her, and started declaring my love for her but she turned me down.

"I was very angry and I grabbed her dress. She started struggling with me but I took a big stick and hit her on her head, she slumped immediately and I bend down over her and removed her skirt and had sex with her. All this while, she did not respond but I still had sex with her a second time but I do not know that she was dead; I thought she was just unconscious."

After committing the act, the suspect hid in the forest for four days. He however came out of his hiding when he could not bear the hunger anymore, and reported himself to his family who then handed him over to the police for prosecution.

Blessing's corpse were discovered by her father and has been deposited at a public mortuary for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the Homicide department at Panti, Yaba for further investigation.
