A Statement By Former Governor Peter Obi Of Anambra State Confirming The Death Of Dora Akunyili
On behalf of the Akunyili's family, I wish to officially confirm the death of Prof. (Mrs.) Dora Nkem Akunyili, OFR, in a Specialist Cancer Hospital in India this morning at 10 am, Nigerian Time, after a two-year battle with cancer.
In spite her illness, Prof. Akunyili was unwavering in her belief in a better Nigeria. That was why she defied her condition and was part of Anambra State Handover Committee and the National Conference.
The last time I visited her in India, even when she needed all the prayers herself, she was full of concern for the abducted Chibok girls, security and other challenges facing the country and told me that she remained prayerful for the release of those girls and for God to help President Goodluck Jonathan to overcome all the challenges facing the Nation. She therefore urged all Nigerians to remain prayerful and committed to building a better society for our children. We all prayed together and I promised to be visiting her every month.
We thank all those who remain fervent in prayers for her recovery and urge them to remain prayerful for the peaceful repose of her soul.
Mr. Peter Obi, CON

Tracy Morgan in intensive care after 6-car crash

Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan was in intensive care Saturday after the limousine bus he was riding in was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike, state police said

The vehicle carrying the former "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" cast member and six others was involved in a six-vehicle accident on the turnpike near Cranbury Township at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. First Class Greg Williams told The Associated Press.
Williams said one person died in the crash that occurred in the northbound lanes of the turnpike near mile marker 71.5.
A spokesman at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey, says a patient named Tracy Morgan is in critical condition there.
There was no immediate word on other injuries from the accident.
Williams says two tractor-trailers, a sports utility vehicle and two cars, along with Morgan's limo bus, were involved in the accident. There is no immediate word on the cause of the pileup.
The 45-year-old New York City native joined "Saturday Night Live" in 1996 and was on the sketch-comedy program for seven years before leaving to star in "The Tracy Morgan Show" in 2003. That show lasted just one season. In 2006, Morgan found a long-running role in NBC's hit show "30 Rock," which was created by SNL co-star Tina Fey.
Morgan grew up fatherless, one of five siblings, in a blighted section of Brooklyn, where he helped raise and support the family.
He once called his gift for being funny "a defense mechanism" for his miserable circumstances.
As a teen he started doing comedy on the streets to supplement the family's welfare income.
In late 2010, Morgan had a kidney transplant.
The New Jersey Turnpike was closed for more than five hours after the crash and was reopened at about 6:30 a.m.

However, the photographs are tamer than the name would indicate – with only the women’s backs displayed.
Explaining the concept, Olivia, 20, said: ‘The Topless Tour is the opening of your bare chest and heart to the world.
‘It sounds really cheesy on paper, but it really connects you with the people you love. The experience is a whirlwind of different emotions and it’s so nice to share it with others.
She added: ‘Our family and friends are really supportive. Most of them have even taken part themselves.
‘Everyone is very proud of the message, our parents think it’s really refreshing for young women to be embracing who they are and love for their body. It is something we don’t hear enough about these days.’

‘Some people are a bit apprehensive when we ask them to join the tour but when it’s all over they say they absolutely love it. It’s one of those moments where time just stands still. It is so addictive.’
The Topless Tour was established in Christmas 2012 while the girls visited Ingvild’s hometown of Brumunddal and were taken for a walk around nearby Lake Mjøsa, the largest in Norway.
Ingvild said: ‘We had been for a walk around the lake and very spontaneously decided to see how cold we could really feel – it was then we lost our topless virginity.
‘It was surprising to see how much your body adjusted to the temperature, it felt so natural, so free. We soon became addicted.

‘So far we haven’t got in too much trouble, we get the occasional tut and shake of the head, but generally the response is surprisingly more positive.
‘We still always seem make people smile and laugh – especially when we’re on skis.’
The Topless Tour is now planning to visit Italy, Croatia and Sweden this summer to further spread the word – and are hoping to have hundreds of thousands of hits by the end of the year.

LASU Students Sets Firewood At The Governor's Office Premises While Protesting[Pictures]

Click for Full Image SizeStudents of Lagos State University, LASU, are no doubt really grieved at the way things are going in their school. The students on Thursday stormed the office of Governor Babatunde Fashola at Alausa, Ikeja, to protest about their school fees hike, which was increased many months ago. The students said they would not return home until their school fees were reduced and all their arrested colleagues are released unconditionally.

The students arrived at the office at about 3pm in over 10 buses, came along with mats, mosquito nets and cooking pots, among others. The female students quickly swung into action, setting up fire woods to prepare beans near the entrance of the Governor’s Office.

The students also defied a downpour that threatened their demonstration, as they danced to solidarity songs and held mid-day prayers to seek divine intervention....

President of the LASU Student Union Government, Mr. Yusuf Nurudeen, said the students had resolved to fight their cause until their demands were met by the government.

Here is what he said; “Our school has been shut down. Students are dropping out of the university on a daily basis. We decided not to engage the party leaders because the people in government do not understand any language. The only language they understand is protest.

“We have resolved to fight this struggle by ourselves. We are a pressure group in the country. We can do this alone. We do not want any person to fight for us. We elected Governor Fashola. We elected all the members of the House of Assembly. They must listen to us.

“Fashola promised us a ‘Better Rewarding Future’. How can we have a rewarding future without education? He has denied us education by the tuition hike. Section 3(1) of the law that established LASU stated that the university should be made available for all people irrespective of their socioeconomic background and status. Now, the governor has made LASU the University of the Rich.

“We will not leave until we hear something from the government. We have gone everywhere and the police shot at us. That is why we decided to come here today and tell the governor what is on our minds. Also, our colleagues arrested by the police must be released unconditionally.

“If the governor refuses to come out, we will remain here until he comes out. If the governor can respond to issues that are less important than this, he should come out and respond to the students of the state he governs.”

The commissioner for Information and Strategy, Aderemi Ibirogba, has said the government may be able to reach a conclusion on the fees by June 9, the students are hoping that their conclusion should yield result.
