How to access the £800Million entertainment fund in Nigeria

Media reports have it that only six applicants have successfully accessed N700 million of the N200 billion entertainment fund disbursed by the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM) for the entertainment industry. Yet the entertainment industry is in dire need for these funds as the industry especially the film sector is in comatose. For the purpose of clarity, the objective of the fund is to stimulate the entertainment industry by funding of production, distribution infrastructure, acquisition of hi-tech production equipment and project refinancing.

Many practitioners have decried the conditions attached to the fund hence this attempt to demystify the process:

Change your orientation - It’s a loan not a grant.

Most applications still consider the fund a grant. While a grant is non-repayable fund disbursed by the government or its agencies, corporation or foundation often for a specific project, a loan requires repayment, the meeting of certain conditions and here’s the best part – a security or collateral. A loan is generally provided at an interest. So, change the mind-set because if you view it as a loan it becomes easier to consider the terms.

Apply as a corporation – Don’t own one, affiliate with one.

The fund is available to only incorporated companies so if you only registered a business name or enterprise you may not be eligible. You need a memorandum and article of association, article of association, forms CAC2 and CAC7). The company must operate in the entertainment and creative industry. So that registration certificate of Alawada and Sons Limited your father registered in the 60’s to carry out the business of importation of Tokunbo vehicles will not apply.

Funding under the NEXIM bank facility only covers segments of the entertainment industry in the following categories: Music, Film, Television, Radio (Production and distribution) and also fashion segments. So, if you are in the fashion industry and you have been searching for funds for that fashion show, well, you’re welcome.

Meeting the conditions is not rocket science – Hire a consultant

.Non-compliance of stipulated guidelines by the practitioners in the entertainment industry it has been observed is the greatest constraints to accessing the funds. However this does not have to be difficult if you are smart enough to hire a consultant. A firm of chartered accountants and tax practitioners will help you to prepare audited accounts, statement of cash flow, statement of affairs and project feasibility study/business plan. These documents give a picture of the financial state of the business so that NEXIM bank can determine whether it is a viable enterprise. But ensure you do not patronize quacks, it will haunt you when the tax people come calling. Also, the lenders know a statement of accounts prepared by professionals. Call me.

Collateral is not only the family house – Think outside the box

A major constraint to securing loan in this part of the world is our often skewed idea about what constitutes collateral. Usually a secured loan requires the borrower to pledge some assets, e.g. a car or a property. Unsecured loans are not secured against the borrower’s assets.

In the case of NEXIM bank, it is a secured loan hence you require an asset. But there are tangible assets such as a house or a car and intangible assets such as trademark or copyright. So, if you are looking to produce and distribute a film your collateral can include proprietary rights to your business or intellectual property right. Yep, the copyright to the screenplay, music score (sound track) can suffice if you pledge this to NEXIM bank. They will only need to secure it by a stipulated amount. How nifty is that? And don’t forget the distribution rights – so you need a lawyer to protect you. Check rule 3.

Work with structures – Corporations protect you

Incorporated entities have legal lights and liabilities that are distinct from its shareholders hence there’s the presence of a corporate veil that serves to shield its owners in times of adversities. Also corporations prefer to do business with corporations.

However, in the entertainment industry rather than corporations there are groups and associations mostly informal and lacking legal framework. This structure is defective and makes it difficult for other industries to engage the entertainment industry. Register your company.

Set up a disbursement chain

So NEXIM bank has finally agreed to dole out the cash to you (of course, you followed Rule 3) but you need a collection account hence your company’s current account should not be dormant or to be on the safe side, open a dedicated account for it. Loan proceeds too could be disbursed directly to your service providers/contractors against job completion certification hence it is important that you hire only registered service providers.

The best part of the loan is the interest - take advantage of it.

The total interest to be charged on any loan facility under the NEXIM bank scheme is in single digit. This means for loans with maturity duration of 2 -1o years they shall not charge more than 9% interest rates. This is way too generous when you consider that currently banks lend at rates above 22% and in some instances up to 35% with conditions that for the lack of milder adjective we’ll leave at punitive.

There are charges associated with the loan, a processing fee of 1% flat on approved amount, annual management fee of 0.75% of outstanding loan amount payable at anniversary date of the facility drawdown on outstanding loan amount from time to time to cover project management and monitoring fees and legal fees charged to the account of the applicant for sundry legal filings and documentation.

Checklist – the tricky items

Most of appraisal requirements are relatively easy so let’s dwell on the tricky parts. Valuation report on collateral to be pledged – this could be land/building, equipment or intellectual property. When physical asset is not available, you must be ready to produce a valuation report that will show how your intellectual property secures the loan. You must also produce past audited accounts and the most recent management account/statement of affairs and tax clearance. Confused? See Rule 3.

Have a sound business plan – It’s your best defence

If you’ve watched the popular series Dragon’s Dena Sony entertainment franchise where entrepreneurs pitch business ideas in order to secure investment finance from a panel of venture capitalists, then you’ll understand the importance of a business plan. To be effective, it should give a detailed history of the project, ownership structure of the company, details of activity, marketing arrangement, cash-flow and profitability analysis.

Protect your investment

Now that you have understood the value of a corporation, secure yours. Take out insurance indemnity, pay relevant taxes usually with a tax consultant supporting you as they may best advice you on allowances due you. Most importantly, keep a record of every transaction and regularly have your accounts audited. And don’t use the loan proceeds to pay for your wedding. Trust me, your bride will not be happy if she learns she was married on a loan.

REVEALED! Top Nollywood Lesbians Of All Times

Click for Full Image Size
But for the fact that I've heard about some of the clandestine exploits of some of our Nollywood actresses, I would have been shocked by this report. However, I'm sure the contents of what you're about to read below will surprise you, and leave you asking many questions which unfortunately, MDB has no answers to..lol. Read the interesting report by Emag below:
After a careful investigation which has taken months, we can exclusively reveal Nollywood’s lesbians of all times till date and it’s really amazing those indicted in this research.
I got talking with an actress whose mission is to expose this rot which she claims has eaten very deep in the industry.
‘This is not the movie industry of our dreams, I didn’t envisage things will be this bad in Nollywood, for producers especially females to give movie roles to some group of actresses just because they are lesbian partners? God forbid!’
Those were the exact words of the actress whose identity I will simply leave as anonymous. What does this imply you may ask? Well, I guess you should patiently read this piece to get yourself well informed on the latest sexual pervert that has dominated the world’s third largest film producing platform called Nollywood.
The story has only just begun ooo...there's more after the cut.

As you read, open your discerning so as to get the gist properly, some revelations you derive here, you may not have ever heard before and would shock you. Read on…

Talking about lesbianism in Nigeria, there is someone, whose name you cannot cast away. This is simply because she sounds like a ‘song’ and just like the songbird, when she sings every other birds keep their cool. She is chubby; dark skinned and is termed the mother of lesbians in Nollywood.

With connections here and there, she prefers the company of young pretty ladies who satisfies her undying sexually perverted desire. Although she has an only child, but in all sincerity, love hasn’t been kind to her. A close friend of hers once told me that she resorted to this shameful demonic act after suffering several heartbreaks from men.

Today she runs one of the most successful lesbian empires in Nigeria, with some of her cohorts being fixed in strategic positions with more and more young girls on the cue wanting to tap into her ‘current’.

Breast bare on the other hand, in the words of a popular magazine that shares the same name with her, the next person you are reading about is pretty yes very pretty, blessed with a beautiful shape, body and skin that glows. She appears ageless all the time but already in her early thirties.

She is however one of the most prominent lesbians of all times alongside a national honour… Despite her age, I also have it on good authority that she may not be giving marriage any trial, because like they say in Pidgin English, Wetin you dey find for Sokoto, dey inside your Shokoto. The actress and mother of one has a PA whose first name begins with the seventh alphabet, with whom she goes down low.

The all seeing eyes also whispered into my ears that they live together in her Lekki mansion, and her so-called PA is an integral part of her life, such that she calls the shots in most cases, infact, like it was said, whoever wants see madam would have to work very hard to please her first, otherwise, you are on your own.

Findings also revealed that the boxed up actress who has endorsed several brands in Nigeria and Abroad, also pays beautiful young girls huge amount of money in order to have carnal knowledge of them. Recently she allegedly approached a female musician who was at some time rumoured to also enjoy the thing a lot, promising her heaven and earth…I will still find out if she agreed or not, but not today.

Just in case you think it’s finished, then I will kindly advise that you read on, because the next person is a Nigerian whose looks and skin colour resembles those from the ‘Dominican Republic’. In fact, she is as well very pretty, fair skinned and petit.

This person operates on a different level; she takes so much Apeteshi and smokes the hell out of cigarette and at the same time enjoys the woman-to-woman affair.

Her career once suffered setback at the emergence of some new generation talents but shortly after, she started regaining her place, after being introduced to the lesbian club. She doesn’t play only local leagues, but also international.

I was informed that most of her lesbian partners hail from Cameroun and Kenya which explains why she frequently travels to these countries. She is also in her late 30s but is also not considering settling down any time soon.

One thing also need to know about these lesbians is that except for some who have probably given love a trial (I mean falling in love with an opposite sex), their desire for the cu*t does not in any way debar them from getting married if the opportunity arises.

The reason for mentioning this is that the next person you are about to read about now, is a newlywed. She studied Theatre arts, tried her hands in acting sometime in the past before going into restaurant business thereafter.

However her second return which was situated by one of her older colleague who hails from the same state with her and also belongs to the top lesbian club was explosive. She is presently the toast of top movie producers due to her versatility and good delivery of movie scripts. Shortly after her return to the industry, her colleague turned bedmate gave her lead roles in some of her personally sponsored movies and the rest they say is history.

However in the words of Achebe of blessed memories, years after, Things fell apart between them and everyone went their separate ways. Due to frustration, she once squatted with some of her lesbian colleagues in Lekki before being thrown out. Eventually she got her groove and rented a personal apartment in the same area, where we were told she had almost an overdose of that thing…and along the line, met her husband and shortly after they settled down.

It cannot be overly emphasized that there is power in the names we bear. This next person hails from the South Southern part of Nigeria. And like her surname implies in Igbo language, she is truly a warrior. Shamelessly in love with controversy, rascally, consumes cigarette like it’s going out of fashion, but this act of sexual perversion has eaten so deep in her system than many ever imagined.

According to the all seeing eyes, she is a bi-sexual and cannot do without sex whenever she is high on Indian hemp or skunk. According to findings, the product of a famous reality show in Nigeria is ready to grab the boobs of the girl next to her whenever she smokes and there is no man to do justice to her sexual desire and before you know it, one or two things will happen.

She allegedly has a good number of her industry colleagues as bed mates and recently got serious bashing from pundits for towing a particular line which some of her predecessors went through without success.

At this juncture, let me tell you the story of another chronic lesbian who have taken a center stage in Nollywood. She is simply ‘Eucharistic’. She is fair skinned with an intimidating body structure; once upon a time the gist was that she is a nymphomaniac, which makes her insatiable with sex.

Once married but divorced with a male child as the product of her failed marriage. Her own case in extraordinary. I was told by the all seeing eyes that her insatiable quest for sex led her into the demonic act.

The all seeing eyes also squealed into my ears that she once told a bed mate that a man’s di**k can’t satisfy her, which explains why she sometimes applies the vibrator with the blend of another female who will suck her underneath while she routes for the climax. She’s currently treading the religious part and was recently honoured in a new generation church.

That however did not stop the South Eastern born actress who claims she might be giving marriage another shot soon. Lie they say, ‘the mother hen knows its chicken’ God knows those who worship him, even by their names.

Funny enough, the list of Nollywood lesbians of all times is almost endless, and we plan to keep up with the listing, but will be drawing the cutting here for this week. Keep a date in our next edition as we continue the gist. Indeed you will be shocked the more.

Again???Nigerian Actress/Singer Afrocandy Releases Hardcore X-rated Movie-18+

The moral decadence in Nollywood these days is nothing short of alarming.
Just when I was recovering from the shock of  Room 027 and Bold5 babes, I stumbled today on the most shocking of them yet; a movie titled  ''Destructive Instinct 3 & 4''.
The full fledged porn movie starrs a Nigerian singer/actress known for her sexually explicit music videos 'Afrocandy.'
Afrocandy whose real name is  Judith Opara Mazagwu is a controversial artist who lives in Europe. She is a  41 year old mother of 2, who rose to fame with her WACK  x-rated video 'Ikebe na moni'.
See the  ''Destructive Instinct 3 & 4'' trailer and 'Ikebe na moni' video after the cut.
Warning:This videos after the cut content sexually explicit content, and should only be viewed by adults 18 and above (18+).

And oh, Afrocandy doesn't care about 'your stupid opinion' as she indicates below:
The woman in question is a mother o! I'm lost as to the kind of morals she would to instill in her 2 kids.

Another Nollywood Actor Keneth Okolie Kidnapped

Nkiru and Keneth on the set of the movie they were shooting before being kidnapped
Upcoming actor and Mr Nigeria 2010, Kenneth Okolie is the newest victim of the kidnappers cartel.
There are however two sides to his kidnap story. While some say the fast rising model was kidnapped this morning on a movie set, others have it that he was abducted on Saturday night along side Nkiru Sylvanus after they left a movie set.
Word out however is that the kidnappers have now contacted the actors family, asking for a N100 million naira ransom, just like they did for Nkiru Sylvanus.
The kidnap situation in the country is starting to really get out of hand. The government needs to find a way to curb the menace and fast.

Chiege Alisigwe: My Boobs Are My Selling Point

Chiege Alisigwe  came into limelight after starring alongside Ramsey Nuoah in the blockbuster movie ‘My Love’ in 1998.  She has since become one of the most-sought-after actresses in Nollywood.  In this  interview, the delectable actress  talks about her NGO, which she recently set up to cater for the welfare of the less -privileged people in our society as well as her plans to establish a  studio among other issues.
You recently set up an NGO. What is it all about?
What I had in mind when I set up my NGO was to use the platform to reach out to the  less privileged people in our society. You know, somebody might be looking good but inwardly,  he or she has a lot of problems bothering him.  So, we really want to see how we can assist them in our own little way.
Have you reconciled with your husband?
I don’t know. I hate talking about my private life. But what I know is that I have a child now.
Vanguard.
Which part of your body do you like most?
There are certain things God  blessed with that make me to feel like a real woman. They are  my boobs and my face. I am not saying that anybody who is flat chested is bad, the person still looks good. But if I dress, i will first admire myself before the mirror, I always thank God for making me a complete woman.
Like something you know many are paying to have, I have it naturally. And I thank God the way he made me. I am very grateful, I cannot ask for more.
Like how much can you insure these places you like most?
Money cannot be enough when it comes to those areas. I don’t pray for anything to happen to these places. I am ok the way I am.
Are you comfortable with the kind of movies that are coming out of Nollywood?
I am not comfortable at all. Though there are some good movies, the fact remains that Nollywood needs to step up its game in the area of production. Because, majority still need amendments here and there. I want the industry to  produce quality movies . I want them to come out  with something more challenging.
How has married life been with you?
Well, married life is good. Though there are ups and down, it is sweet at the same time, it is sour. You cannot just say it is all bed of roses but it is good. It is good because when the going is sweet, you love it the more but when the going is bad, you will still be there provided it is not life and death.
Does your married affect your career (Acting)?
No, it does not.
You stopped acting for a while now, what happened?
No, actually, I didn’t stop. But somehow, you do not need to act one million movies in a day. You have to advise yourself, I am the married woman that wants to combine my family with my career, and then you have to compromise. You think about your family first. No matter what you do, your family comes first.
How did you start acting?
Well, that was in 1998. When I left secondary school, I took JAMB; and I entered into the movie industry. To me then, it was a sort of whiling away time while I was still waiting for my JAMD result. Not like now you see people desperately want to act. It was not like that for me.
Was it like a passion you  wanted to use to pass time?
Number one, I love acting because, I use to act drama in secondary school then. Secondly, I was waiting for my JAMB result so I want to use that to while away time. Because, I don’t like staying idle. Even as a child, I used to do one or two things. I have always been an independent person. I would say that I started acting because I hate idleness.
How many movies have you acted this year?
I don’t really know but it is not much.
You live outside the country most often?
I live here in Nigeria but most times, I travel out of the country because of the project I’m embarking on. I shuttle between Nigeria and the outside world. There are certain things I need to bring from there to this country that is why I travel most often. Like my cameras, I brought them down from there. Like the house of service I told you, I need some in Nigeria and likewise outside the country.
Like other actors and actresses who have ventured into the music industry. Are you planning to do the same?
I love singing, I have sang so many songs. But, we cannot keep acting all the time. Because if you continue like that, you can never have your time, you can never give your family that time they need. You act, you get another thing to fall back on incase if you are not there.
At the same time, you cut your shot. What I mean is this, if you are the boss of what you are doing, you can say, let me give this time to my family today and your assistance will take over. Also, tomorrow you can say let me go to work/location today. I don’t want to spend all my time in working (acting). Where I can be answerable to somebody without being answerable to my husband.
So, you have to initiate something on your own by so doing, you can tell your workers, go and do this thing and you will go and relax. You can also be doing other things that will give you time to attend to your family. That does not mean I would not act for anybody anymore. I will act for people but I can never be the same like when I started as a young girl who does not have anybody to answer to.
Does it mean you choose the roles you act now?
Yes. I choose. I see the script. If I am not satisfied with it, I will tell you that I cannot act the script. If I am satisfied with that, I will go on with the script.
Do you think you still have a chance in the industry considering the number of actresses who are eager to act?
Well, I don’t look at people’s faces. I believe that whatever you are, it is on your own. If you are good, it is for your own good. I always tell people to be confident in themselves.
If you have self-confidence and a dragon is by your side, you can even say hi to the dragon and go your way the dragon would even turn back to follow your footsteps. Just be contended with yourself, how you act,, do you thing in your own way.
Don’t mind how people do theirs. You will find out that a lot of people are out there who are following your footsteps without your knowledge. So I am not scared.
What are the challenges you are facing now?
Talking about my challenges now, I think it is what I am building up that is giving me  lots of challenges. The other challenge an actor/actress can face is that professionalism in the field, knowing what you are doing. By God’s grace, we have the professionals in the industry. In fairness, I even love challenges so much.
What is your driving force in creating your own studio?
I decided to create my own studio because, I wanted something different apart from my acting. It is a kind of gradual step you have to take when you want to be there. I do not really want to have problem when I am there I will start looking for cameras or anything. I want to gather everything before I start the NGO. So that when I am out, they can finish everything without problems.
What do you intend to do with your NGO?
Ok, we want to reach to people because, so many Nigerians are hungry and I think I am happier if I am eating and the person beside me is eating as well. If am eating and the person beside me is hungry, I feel so unhappy. I derive joy in making people happy.
When do we hope to hear about the NGO well?
Not now because we are still working on it.
Tell us about your background?
I am Chiege Alisigwe from Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State. I am the last in the family of Eleven. I read fine and applied arts. I did my OND at Federal Polytechnic, Oko, before proceeding  to  IMT Enugu for Higher National Diploma. I did my youth service and now on the verge of doing my masters.

Tonto Dike – “If I keep waiting for an Igbo man, I will just end up like Genevieve Nnaji who is eternally single”

This piece was culled from an interview Tonto Dike had recently with a reporter from Punch. Excerpt from the interview:
Interviewer: We just learnt that you will be getting married soon to your new boyfriend who happens to come from Benin, Edo state. Why are so many Nollywood female starts getting snapped up by Benin or men from Edo state?
Tonto Dike: First of all, it is nobody’s business where my fiance is from. That out of the way, yes Benin men are great and very understanding. They are not sitting and judging you unlike an Igbo man that will want to be poke-nosing in everything you do. You make your money and the Edo man is not interested in your personal affairs . “If I keep waiting for an Igbo man, I will just end up like Genevieve Nnaji who is eternally single.”
Tonto dike Debunked the statement above…
In a reaction to the alleged interview, which has spread like harmmatan fire, Tonto reacted this way, “I have never and will never say anything against Genevieve. I will not even interfere in her personal issues. I did not grant such interview.”
Her publicist also denied any such statement from Tonto dike. The publicist said, “after her interview with you (NFC) last year December, Tonto dike has only granted an interview with a soft-sell magazine, which was done about three months ago.
So, I don’t know where that purported interview came from or when such was granted.”

NIJ Student Goes Nude, Says I Want To Break Into Nollywood

A 300-level student of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has gone nude to break into the big league of the glamorous Nigerian movie industry, known as Nollywood, saying she wants to be famous and rich. The 21-year-old student, Ms. Enitan Adeshola Okesanya, vowed to enter the industry with a big bang. “I think there is something missing in the industry and that’s me. I seriously think so. I have got this talent and passion inside me that I want to show to everybody out there. I want the world to see what I have got inside me, the God-given talent inside me, and I know that the media are actually waiting for that young person that will come and blow everybody away. Click to see pic and continue reading.....

That’s why I believe that they are looking for me,” she told our correspondent last night as both scanned through her bawdy pictures.

To break into the world’s third biggest movie industry, Enitan said, she will go as far as her strength will carry her. “As long as my strength can carry me. Since it’s about passion, I don’t think I can get tired. I will not stop until I am done, not even when I am tired’’. I love acting. I love fame. I hate poverty and I want to be rich. Ever since I was a child I always wanted to be in the big screen. I think the time has come for me to show the world what I’ve got inside me,” she said. She said taking controversial pictures make her controversial and appealing. “I think because I am personally crazy. I love creativity. I love doing things that are so unusual. I don’t want to be doing everyday things. When I take a picture and people keep wondering, who’s that girl? I want to just create a controversy. That’s why I love taking crazy pictures,” she said. Enitan said she will use acting and movie to reach to people who need help in the society. “Acting is basically more than what we see on the screen. I could use acting to pass messages to the less privileged out there, to different people in our society.

I could use acting and movies to impact knowledge into people’s lives because there are so many people out there that are looking for one thing or the other and through the expression of what I feel inside, through acting, I believe that I could pass messages across to the average people out there.” The actress to be who was born on 7 May 1991 hails from Epe Local Government. She is the first child in a family of six and lost her father in 2010. She said she loves dancing and acting and has a strong belief that she will be successful, anyhow.

Another Nollywood Actor Will Soon Die – Prophet TB Joshua

Just some weeks ago, a prophecy made by top Nigerian prophet and head of Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet TB Joshua on the death of an African leader came to pass.

Alas! It was the President of Malawi that was the victim.

The controversial man of God at his second service on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2012 warned the movie industry to pray against the death of a male actor.

“Actors in Nollywood should pray against death of a male member of the industry,” Prophet TB Joshua warned.

The Nigerian film industry witnessed a series of death last year. Ashley Nwosu, Sam Loco Efe, Geraldine Ekeocha and others all died last.

This year has already witnessed the death of David Ihieze and James Iroha popularly called Gringory
