U.S.-Turkey tensions boil over after arrest of consulate employee

When they met last month in New York, President Trump hailed what he called his “personal relationship” with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and said the United States and Turkey were “as close as we have ever been.”

Erdogan called Trump “my dear friend Donald.”

Close observers of Ankara and Washington would have been forgiven for rolling their eyes. For the past several years, the ties between them have repeatedly frayed to near the breaking point, only to be temporarily patched. On Sunday, they snapped.

Following the arrest last week of Metin Topuz, a Turkish employee of the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul, the United States announced that it was immediately suspending the issuance of non-immigrant visas in Turkey. Ankara quickly responded with identical restrictions, suddenly upending the plans of countless Turkish and American tourists, students, businesspeople and others who did not already possess the necessary travel documents.

Fast-moving wildfires kill 10, spur evacuations in Northern California

A firefighter covers his eyes as he walks past a burning hillside in Santa Rosa, California, on Monday, October 9. Wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through Northern California, sending residents on a flight to safety through smoke and flames as homes burned.

Deadly wildfires roared across California on Monday, forcing evacuations and destroying homes and businesses in their paths. The biggest fires burned in the wine country of Napa and Sonoma counties.

Here's what we know so far, according to California authorities.
• Ten people have died and the number is expected to grow.
• More than 100 people were being treated at Napa- and Sonoma-area hospitals for fire-related injuries or health issues including burns, smoke inhalation and shortness of breath.
• An estimated 1,500 structures have been destroyed and 57,000 acres burned in eight counties.
• A wildfire in Anaheim, in Southern California, has spread to 4,000-5,000 acres and burned at least six buildings.
The fires ignited Sunday night and Monday and spread with alarming speed because of dry conditions, Cal Fire Director Ken Pimlott said at a news conference. More than 20,000 people evacuated, some with little notice.

Gay fitness instructor 'killed 18-month-old daughter he called 'Satan in a baby grow' just two weeks after formally adopting her with his company director husband'

A stay-at-home father accused of murdering his adopted baby daughter referred to her as 'Satan dressed up in baby grow,' a court heard.

Matthew Scully-Hicks, 31, is accused of killing 18-month old Elsie after 'assaulting and abusing' her over several months.

The couple first adopted Elsie in September 2015 and the process was finalised nearly eight months later.

But less than two weeks later little Elsie died after suffering traumatic head injuries.

She died at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, after the decision was taken to switch off her ventilator when doctors decided she would not survive her traumatic head injuries.

After Elsie's tragic death police examined electronic devices owned by Matthew Scully-Hicks - including his iPad.

The court heard on September 22, 2015 - just 12 days after having Elsie - he sent a message to a friend saying: 'I'm going through hell with Elsie!

'Mealtimes and bedtime are like my worst nightmare at the moment.

'She's been up there screaming for 10 minutes non stop. She's just stopped but I doubt that's the last I'll hear tonight.'

That evening he also sent a message to husband Craig calling Elsie 'a psycho.'

Ida Wilde, 83, never thought she would see her adopted brother Asgar Patel after he was forced to leave her Glasgow home and return to India.

Mrs Wilde's aunt looked after him during India's turbulent Partition period in 1947 and young pair grew very close.

After leaving the adopted family in Scotland, Mr Patel, now 78, returned to his homeland and built up one of the largest logistic companies in India.
His successful career catapulted him into a six-figure salary and he is now a multi-millionaire and number 45 on Forbes' list of top 100 Indian business owners 2017.

Bentley Mulsanne Review

Bentley has updated its flagship sedan, the Mulsanne, with a few styling changes and some new tech. There's nothing to get excited about when it comes to the engine, but the Mulsanne does get an extended wheelbase version.

The Mulsanne represents the pinnacle of Bentley craftsmanship and it requires 400 hours to be assembled and painted. All by hand. It takes 12 hours just to get the car polished, so you can get a sense of the amount of dedication that goes into making such a vehicle. Bentley has a reputation to protect and the Mulsanne has to be perfect in every way.

As Overdose Deaths Pile Up, a Medical Examiner Quits the Morgue

In the state morgue here, in the industrial maze of a hospital basement, Dr. Thomas A. Andrew was slicing through the lung of a 36-year-old woman when white foam seeped out onto the autopsy table.

Foam in the lungs is a sign of acute intoxication caused by an opioid. So is a swollen brain, which she also had. But Dr. Andrew, the chief medical examiner of New Hampshire, would not be certain of the cause of death until he could rule out other causes, like a brain aneurysm or foul play, and until after the woman’s blood tests had come back.

Mercedes-Benz Wants You to Know what the Justice League Superheroes Drive

Whether you like comic books or not, the movie still looks like it's going to be at least a great action flick. And how else could it be when you have people who can fly, run at the speed of light, command the sea currents or who, you know, can do all these things because they're Superman?

Busy taking over the North American market, Mercedes-Benz couldn't afford to miss a glorious occasion such as this, so it immediately jumped on board. But since Iron Man already drives an Audi and he's busy doing things in another universe anyway, how could the German brand squeeze its products in without being too obvious or annoying?

Russell Brand Candidly Opens Up About His Heroin, Sex Addiction and His Marriage to Katy Perry

Russell Brand

As the saying goes, you never forget your first time. But for Russell Brand, the memory of his first encounter with heroin at 19 is too agonizing to dwell on.

“I can’t think about it too much because I start to miss it,” Brand, 14 years sober, exclusively tells Us Weekly. "If you're in pain, psychological pain, you feel like you have a knot in your tummy. If pain is a fist, heroin dives into it, opens it up and relaxes you. It feels so beautiful. It feels like a cuddle, like comfort, like being in your mother's arms. It's so sweet and perfect."
But that sensation is fleeting. Quickly. Already "smoking too much, drinking too much, doing cocaine, taking quite a lot of acid and looking at too much porn," the comedian, 42, says his world began to unravel. "There were terrible, terrible moments of loneliness in a flat where all I had were drugs," he recalls. "That was all I needed. I had a job at MTV. It went. I had a radio show. It went. Everything was going. My friends left me. Girlfriends left me. It was very scary."

But fear only drove him further into his abyss. Every day for nearly fours years, heroin was the staple holding his life together. That is, until his then-manager and also his friend Chip Sommers stepped in to help.

Drunk Time Traveler Warns US of Coming Alien Attack

The alien invasion is set to happen next year, but the time traveler did not specify an exact date.
Casper, Wyoming is a pretty small town where not a whole lot of exciting things happen, but that all changed last week when a drunk time traveler was taken into custody by Casper police. The man was arrested for drunk in public and had a pretty convincing story about the impending alien invasion and his explanation of his time traveling abilities. Though he was not able to provide a specific date, the aliens will be arriving sometime next year and apparently alcohol contains the secrets behind time travel, which was hinted at during the end of the first Back to the Future movie when Doc throws a beer can into Mr. Fusion.

Two Teens Shoot Up Denzel Washington's Equalizer 2 Set

Two teenagers have been charged with intent to murder after shooting two security guards on the set of The Equalizer 2.

Two people have been arrested in connection to a shooting on the set of Denzel Washington's The Equalizer 2 over the weekend. Two security guards were shot and wounded, but thankfully both survived as the injuries were not life threatening and the two were released from the hospital shortly after receiving treatment. The two gunmen, Dionte Martinez, 18, and Thomas Perkins, 18, have both been charged with assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the two quickly fled the scene of the crime, which happened after midnight on Saturday morning. They were later found and arrested on Thursday and each teen reportedly has a three-page juvenile crime record that includes gun charges, according to prosecutors. The pair appeared on Snapchat moments before the gunfire, wearing clothing that matched the shooters, prosecutors said. Similar clothing was found abandoned near the shooting scene, according to a police report, which helped locate the suspects. Both teens are not happy to be receiving such a harsh sentence, but that's just kind of really ridiculous after they shot at two innocent people who were trying to do their job.

“Yes I was dating Tagbo before his death” — Caroline Danjuma admits

  • Actress Caroline Danjuma has come out to react to the viral claim that late Davido’s friend, Tagbo, was the father of her last child. Reacting to the news in an interview with SDK, Caroline said: “I met Tagbo when i was legally divorced and out of My ex’ house to start a new life. Yes we were dating. My daughter is 3 years old and I only met Tagbo last year, so its not possible that tagbo is the father of Elizabeth.

Let us leave sentiments aside, trying to blackmail me to keep quiet will not work or change anything. We need justice for Tagbo. I contacted someone who remembers seeing davido and tagbo and DNA and remembers there was a fight.
This person also told me there was a bet, the same thing my neighbour said. And Tagbo drank 30 shots of tequila and got intoxicated and wanted to drive his car but Davido refused and said Tagbo should drive with him.

That was what i heard and that they drove to G12 beach and got out leaving Tagbo in the car all locked up and that one of the crew members came back saw tagbo gasping for air.

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK AT THE GOOGLE PIXEL 2 AND 2 XL

For a majority of the 10 years smartphones have been mainstream, phone makers have been copying each other’s designs. It's not easy to differentiate when all you really have is a slab of glass and a handful of variables like materials, camera, ports, and bezels to work with. It's only recently that we've been able to suss out some genuine schools of design thought, and genuinely competing philosophies of phone design are only beginning to emerge.

That’s why the designs for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are remarkable: in its second year of making phone hardware, Google is establishing an aesthetic that isn't just consistent, but is distinct from what both Apple and Samsung are doing. Google hardware is all about pragmatism and approachability.

Google also layers on a new iteration to the oldest of tech clichés: the integration of hardware and software. For Google, the future isn’t in the merger of hardware and software; it’s in the merger of hardware and machine learning.

Spacewalkers install new hand on station's robot arm

Spacewalkers install new hand on station's robot arm
Spacewalking astronauts gave the International Space Station's big robot arm a new hand Thursday.
Commander Randy Bresnik and Mark Vande Hei accomplished the job on the first of three NASA spacewalks planned over the next two weeks.
The latching mechanism on one end of the 58-foot robot arm malfunctioned in August. It needed to be replaced before the arrival of an Orbital ATK supply ship in November.
Hustling through their work, the spacewalkers unbolted the old mechanism and promptly installed the spare. Initial testing by ground controllers indicated success.
"All right, gentlemen, we show a good arm," Mission Control radioed.

A look at what might happen if Catalonia goes it alone

The northeastern region of Catalonia, one of Spain’s autonomous regions, is threatening to declare its independence from Spain following a disputed referendum that, it says, gave it a mandate to break away.

Spain, which declared the referendum illegal and invalid, says it will do all to maintain the country’s unity and keep hold of the region of 7.5 million people centered around the port city of Barcelona.

The two would seem to be about to enter uncharted waters. Here’s a look at how Spain got to this point and what may happen next.

ATM Fees Are Out of Control

Image result for atm machine gtb
Drawing cash from an ATM is beginning to feel like a ritual from a bygone era. Like buying a record on vinyl, it’s a once-universal experience for which dedicated fans are now paying a premium.

This year marks the 11th consecutive annual increase in bank ATM fees for customers using out-of-network machines, according to a new Bankrate.com report. Over the past decade, such fees have risen 55 percent. The average cost of such a transaction is now over $4.50, and N65.

ATM fees aren’t rising due to overwhelming demand. In fact, it’s the opposite. “It keeps getting easier to avoid the fees, and people are transitioning away from cash,” said Greg McBride, Bankrate.com’s chief financial analyst. “With fewer people making out-of-network ATM withdrawals, the cost of maintaining that network is being spread over fewer transactions.”

Instagram celebrity and gun fanatic Dan Bilzerian flees Las Vegas shooting

07261417159, 10101360,
Internet famous poker player Dan Bilzerian witnessed the mass shooting that took place Sunday night in Las Vegas.

In dimly lit, expletive-filled videos posted to Instagram, Bilzerian can be seen apparently running from the area around the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino while describing one woman's death that took place right in front of him.

"F---, this girl just got shot in the f---ing head," Bilzerian recounted to his 23 million followers in the first video, uploaded around 10 p.m. local time (PDT), Business Insider reports. "So f---ing crazy."
Approximately an hour later, the web celebrity posted another clip offering further details into what he saw at the Route 91 Festival.
"So I had to go grab a gun," he says. "I'm f---ing headed back. It's f---ing so crazy - some kind of mass shooting. F---ing guy had a heavy caliber weapon for sure.

White House again rejects talks with North Korea on nuclear issue

Image result for donald trump and kim jong un
The White House on Monday ruled out talks with North Korea except to discuss the fate of Americans held there, again appearing to rebuke Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who said Washington was directly communicating with Pyongyang on its nuclear and missile programs.

“We’ve been clear that now is not the time to talk,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters, reiterating a tweet from President Donald Trump at the weekend that was seen as undercutting Tillerson.

“The only conversations that have taken place were that ... would be on bringing back Americans who have been detained,” Sanders said. “Beyond that, there will be no conversations with North Korea at this time.”

Tillerson said on Saturday during a trip to China that the United States was directly communicating with North Korea on its nuclear and missile programs but that Pyongyang had shown no interest in dialogue.

Trump, who has traded insults and threats with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in recent weeks, later dismissed any prospect of talks with North Korea as a waste of time.

The mystery of Stephen Paddock — gambler, real estate investor, mass killer

Las Vegas gunman's father was once on FBI most-wanted list, brother says

He was 64 years old and, to those who knew him, showed no signs of mental illness, extreme political views or an unhealthy interest in guns. He liked to gamble, and had bounced around over the years, living in Southern California, Texas and Nevada. But he seemed to have plenty of money, and had held steady jobs as a mail carrier, accountant, auditor and apartment manager.

Stephen Paddock’s last stop was here, in Mesquite, Nev., a modest desert oasis 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, where he lived in a retirement community with his female partner and kept a low profile, conversing little and maintaining no Facebook or Twitter accounts.

In an era when social media invites full-throated expression of even the most minor annoyance, Paddock gave away no hint of whatever it was that drove him to commit mass murder on the Las Vegas Strip, killing 59 people in an assault on a country music festival late Sunday night.

“We are completely dumbfounded,” said a younger brother, Eric Paddock, who broke into tears in front of his suburban Orlando, Fla., home. “We can’t understand what happened.”

“He was always normal,” said Donald Judy, a former next-door neighbor who said he was struggling to reconcile the friendly conversations about real estate and family with carnage carried out from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

A total of 42 guns were found in the suspected Las Vegas shooter's hotel room and house, police said Monday night.

Las Vegas Police Department Assistant Sheriff Todd R. Fasulo said that 23 guns were found in the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino room where suspected shooter Stephen Paddock fired into a crowd, and 19 were discovered out of his Mesquite, Nevada home.

Multiple loaded high-capacity magazines were found in the hotel room, law enforcement sources said earlier on Monday.

Among the guns and ammunition police found the in the room being used by Paddock were some high-powered rifles considered capable of penetrating police armor. There were also some handguns in the room.

CBS fires vice president who said Vegas victims didn't deserve sympathy because country music fans 'often are Republican'

cbslawyer
CBS has parted ways with one of the company’s top lawyers after she said she is “not even sympathetic” to victims of the Las Vegas shooting because “country music fans often are Republican,” when discussing the tragic mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas late Sunday night.

“This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS. Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families,” a CBS spokeswoman told Fox News.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, the network's now-former vice president and senior counsel, took to Facebook after a gunman opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, killing at least 58 people and sending more than 500 others to hospitals.

Las Vegas Shooting Near Mandalay Bay Is Said to Kill at Least 2 #PrayForVagas

A gunman opened fire Sunday night at a concert outside a Las Vegas casino hotel, sending people fleeing as SWAT units searched for the attacker and the police investigated reports of shootings elsewhere in the city. At least two people were killed and 24 others injured, hospital officials said.
Reports said that the shooting happened near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Video posted online showed a musician performing outside the hotel at Route 91 Harvest, a country music festival, interrupted by the sound of automatic gunfire. The music stopped, and concertgoers ducked for cover. “Get down,” one shouted. “Stay down,” screamed another.

North Korea ship seized with huge weapons cargo en route to Egypt amid WW3 fears

North Korea
More than 30,000 rocket-propelled grenades discovered on board the freighter named the Jie Shun which the hermit kingdom had decorated with deceptive Cambodian colours.

Despot leader Kim Jong-un’s cargo was stopped in its tracks when the US warned Cairo about the incoming ship.

An investigation launched by the United Nations found that Pyongyang had made nice with Egyptian business executives who had ordered millions of dollars worth of North Korean weaponry.

The monumental weapons supply was disguised under bins of iron ore that were used as a front for the hugely destructive delivery.

Washington has accused Egypt of attempting to conceal the transaction, claiming there was a lack of action taken until US intelligence alerted Egyptian authorities to the then unidentified vessel.

Two women accused of murdering Kim Jong Nam plead not guilty

The two female suspects fact court in Malaysia on March 1

Two young women pleaded not guilty in a Malaysian court Monday morning charged with the murder of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's half-brother, Kim Jong Nam.

In one of the most audacious assassinations of the 21st century, Kim was poisoned with VX nerve agent at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February on his way back to his home in the Chinese territory of Macau.
Security footage showed the two women, 25-year-old Indonesian Siti Aisyah, and 29-year-old Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong, walking up behind Kim and rubbing their hands on his face.
Malaysian authorities claim the pair were trained by North Korean agents to swab Kim's face with the nerve agent.

Catalonia’s Independence Vote Descends Into Chaos and Clashes

Catalonia’s defiant attempt to stage an independence referendum descended into chaos on Sunday, with hundreds injured in clashes with police in one of the gravest tests of Spain’s democracy since the end of the Franco dictatorship in the 1970s.

National police officers in riot gear, sent by the central government in Madrid from other parts of Spain, used rubber bullets and truncheons in some places as they fanned out across Catalonia, the restive northeastern region, to shut down polling stations and seize ballot boxes.

The clashes quickly spoiled what had been a festive, if expectant, atmosphere among voters, many of whom had camped inside polling stations and stayed on into late Sunday night, fearful that officers might seize ballot boxes.
By the day’s end, both sides were claiming victory. Voting went ahead in many towns and cities, with men and women, young and old, singing and chanting as they lined up for hours to cast ballots. Just after midnight, the Catalan government said that the referendum had been approved by 90 percent of some 2.3 million voters. Those figures could not be independently confirmed.

Rock star Marilyn Manson was injured during a concert in New York when a large prop fell on him on stage.
The prop - apparently two large guns held together with metal scaffolding - fell as he was performing at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday.
An eyewitness told the BBC that the singer laid on stage for up to 15 minutes covered by a sheet before he was carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

Spanish riot police clashed with Catalan voters in Barcelona

Spanish riot police clashed with Catalan voters in Barcelona on Sunday as the controversial referendum on breaking away from Spain began.

Spanish national police began to seize ballot boxes and voting papers from Catalan polling stations, the Interior Ministry said.

An Al Jazeera correspondent at one confrontation saw several people with bleeding faces after they were beaten by security forces. Some people who attempted to vote and fought with riot police were taken away in ambulances after being injured.
At another polling station, would-be voters chanted "we are people of peace" and "we are not afraid". Half a dozen armoured police vans and an ambulance stood ready nearby, the witness said.
