US Vice President, Pence, hires lawyer for Russia inquiries

US Vice President, Pence, hires lawyer for Russia inquiries

Vice-President Mike Pence has hired an outside lawyer to handle his response to inquiries into possible ties between President Trump’s campaign and Russia.
Richard Cullen is known for representing high profile clients.
Earlier, US media reported that Donald Trump was being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice.
Mueller is leading an FBI inquiry into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Reports in US media said senior intelligence officials would be interviewed on whether Trump tried to end an inquiry into his sacked National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and about the firing of FBI chief James Comey.
Trump – who has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russia – said the move was the latest action in a “phony story”.

Where the Trump-Russia saga goes from

Donald Trump
During his blockbuster testimony Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey made several remarkable claims before the Senate Intelligence Committee: that President Trump directed him to drop his investigation into Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and that the president fired Comey in an attempt to alter the course of the FBI's Russia investigation.
On Friday, Trump shot back, denying Comey's allegations and accusing the former FBI head of lying under oath.
Despite the president's alleged attempts to stymie them, several investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials continue — perhaps with renewed vigor.
These are the related but separate investigations underway.

t turns out that the $110 billion Saudi arms deal is actually 'fake news'

Donald Trump Saudi Arabia

It turns out that the $110 billionSaudi Arabia arms deal that the Trump administration announced in May is actually "fake news," according to the Brookings Institution.
Bruce Riedel, a senior fellow and director of the Brookings Intelligence Project, writes that everyone with whom he has spoken in the defense industry and on Capitol Hill says that the supposed $110 billion deal is actually "a bunch of letters of interest or intent, but not contracts."
In fact, a lot of these proposals, which the Pentagon calls "intended sales," are just arms that defense contractors speculate that the Saudis might want at some point. Many were even proposed during the Obama era.
For example, the Pentagon proposed to sell the Saudis four frigates for $11.25 billion in 2015, but since then, no contracts have been signed.

Woman hides corpse of mother in freezer to claim pension of deceased

French police

A 55 year-old woman in the village of Horsarrieu located in the South West of France has done the unthinkable after reportedly hiding the corpse of her mother in a freezer.

This was in a bid to continue claiming the old age pension, £1,700, belonging to the deceased, the Mirror UK reports.
The body of the 90 year-old woman was found by the police after they launched an investigation and found the corpse of the deceased.

According to reports, there is a plan to conduct an autopsy to determine if the woman died of natural causes.

How leaving the Paris Climate Agreement could affect the US

President Trump announced on Thursday that the US would leave the Paris Agreement, the landmark accord on climate that unites nearly every country with the goal of keeping the planet from warming by more than 1.5 Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above preindustrial levels.
There will most likely be several consequences not only for the climate but also for the US economy and jobs.
According to John Sterman, a professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and senior adviser at Climate Interactive, leaving the Paris Agreement will create uncertainty in the economy about the future of fossil fuels and renewable-energy resources. That would be "bad for businesses" and others hoping to invest in renewable energy, and it could spread to other countries' economies. It would also lead to slower deployments of renewable energy, Sterman said.
The costs of these energy sources are decreasing, but with the US's exit of the Paris Agreement, uncertainty could cause solar and wind to be deployed more slowly, keeping their costs higher for longer and ultimately slowing the US's transition to renewable energy.

Coup Scare: Nigerian Army Clamps Down On Suspected Soldiers

The Nigerian Army may have begun an internal search for soldiers and officers suspected to be engaging in political meetings, a top military source has told SUNDAY PUNCH. The source said that some arrests may have been made, but that the information was being kept as top secret so as not to add to the public tension.
Some other sources who spoke to our correspondent on Saturday also noted that the  establishment of an army unit in Daura, Katsina State, on Friday, named Muhammadu Buhari Forward Operation Base, by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, was an effort to fortify the president’s hometown and a public pledge of loyalty.
On Tuesday, Buratai, in a tense language, had warned officers and soldiers to steer clear of politics, as information had reached him that some officers were involved in political meetings for “undisclosed reasons.”
The army chief had advised officers and soldiers interested in politicking to resign from the service, as any officer caught would be severely penalized.

Marriage is too important to stamped, shame or bully people into (by Charles Irongesit )

Image may contain: 1 person

Just stepped out of my cousin's house in Benin to head back to Lagos. Honestly, people, please and please, stop telling girls to go and marry or running down people who are not married yet. Let each person marry at his/her own pace and to whatever choice of person he/she chooses. Marriage is too important to stamped, shame or bully people into.
My female cousin's marriage is in distress. To cut a lot story short: She is a certain type of person and her husband is his own type of person. However, the problem is while they were dating, the lady swore heaven and earth to understand his type of lifestyle, desires dreams etc. He also swore the same thing. However, the lady knew his own lifestyle and thoughts were quite unconventional for Nigerian men and Nigerian culture, so she made a bigger deal of swearing and convincing him of her readiness to adapt and tolerate him.
Now, eight years later. They barely talk and haven't slept in the same room for two years. She is my cousin and I will not be partial.

Trump's loyalists are praising Comey's ouster as a blow against the 'deep state,' a far-right conspiracy

President Donald Trump's shocking decision to fire FBI director James Comey on Tuesday set off one of the most tumultuous weeks in his young administration. Critics on both sides of the aisle blasted the president for firing the man who was overseeing an investigation into him and his associates for possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
But Trump's most dedicated supporters see things a little differently. To them, Trump's decision to fire Comey was a welcome sign of a democratically-elected president striking back at the American "deep state" — a theory peddled by those on the far-right, which asserts that there is a shadow network of government officials, politicians, and intelligence agents who are covertly working to undermine Trump's agenda and ultimately overthrow him.
Though there is no credible evidence of an American deep state, talks of it have been widespread on far-right news outlets like InfoWars and Breitbart. They've also found a home among notable pundits including Fox News host Sean Hannity, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Rep. Steve King of Iowa.

North Korea says new rocket can carry nuclear warhead

North Korea said on Monday it had successfully launched a new type of ballistic missile in its latest test which it said was aimed at building capacity to launch nuclear missiles.
The North fired a ballistic missile that landed in the sea near Russia on Sunday in a launch that that came just days after South Korea's new President Moon Jae-in, who has called for closer engagement with the North, was inaugurated in Seoul.

Sunday's launch was of a "new ground-to-ground medium long-range strategic ballistic rocket" named the Hwasong-12, the official Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
