The US just issued a 'remarkable' warning to Turkey amid its post-coup crackdown

kerry
Tension between the US and Turkey has escalated dramatically in the wake of Ankara's far-reaching crackdown on those suspected to have been involved in Friday's failed military coup.
In addition to more than 2,000 members of the Turkish armed forces, Ankara has ordered that at least 50 high-level civil servants, 8,000 police officers, and 30 regional governors with alleged ties to the coup plotters be either arrested or fired, according to Reuters.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also told a crowd of supporters Saturday night that the country would look into reinstating the death penalty for the "traitors" who plotted to overthrow his government.
On Monday, US Secretary of State John Kerry cautioned Turkey against abandoning due process in its crackdown, implying that Turkey's NATO membership would be scrutinized if the country began to "backslide" away from its democratic principles.
"NATO also has a requirement with respect to democracy," Kerry told reporters in Brussels on Monday. "Obviously a lot of people have been arrested, and arrested very quickly. The level of vigilance and scrutiny is obviously going to be significant in the days ahead. Hopefully we can work in a constructive way that prevents a backsliding."

Sapele—The Iwere Peoples’ Congress, aka, Agbukumasa, the self defence arm of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality, which came into existence during the Ijaw and Itsekiri communal crisis between 1997-2003, yesterday, warned that the fact that the Itsekiri people were not known for violence should not mean that they cannot carry out violence.
It subsequently called on the Federal Government and oil companies in Itsekiri land to stop divide and rule antics and modern day slavery of the people, or be prepared to face their wrath.
The group, through its National Coordinator, Prince Ekwejunor-Etchie Okorodudun, said:
“The Nigerian State and its administrative component called Delta State have abandoned their constitutional role towards an ethnic nationality that is part of their geographical and constitutional authority – the Itsekiri nation.”
“Successive governments have failed the Itsekiri nation as they could not provide the necessary security, protection of the Itsekiri people, land and property during the crisis. We are accusing the government of lack-lustre and lackadaisical behaviour.

Samuel Eto'o cancels charity match following coup attempt in Turkey + photos of the players there

A lot of playing and retired footballers are currently in Antalya, Turkey. Most arrived yesterday and were scheduled to leave tomorrow after playing in Eto'o's charity match scheduled to take place today July 16th in celebration of the 10th anniversary of his foundation. Unfortunately, you all know what happened in the country last night; a coup attempt that resulted in the death of over 90 people...

The dinner night held last night, but the charity football match scheduled for today has been cancelled. Some guests are even stranded in Turkey following the lockdown of their major airports.

Hazard Eden, Puyol, Michael Essien, Kolo Toure, Kanu Nwankwo, JJ Okocha, AY Comedian, Paw Paw and many others are currently in Turkey. Eto'o spent millions on first class tickets and five star hotels for his guests...unfortunately all wasted.

Why Turkish soldiers staged a coup — and ultimately failed

An attempted military coup by a faction within the Turkish armed forces calling itself the"Peace at Home Council" was stifled in less than 24 hours after Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on his supporters to take to the streets and repel the uprising.
Earlier Friday night, the soldiers stormed Turkey's state-run broadcaster and said they had seized power, taken over the government, and declared martial law. They deployed forces onto the streets of Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey's largest city and capital, respectively, and closed two major bridges leading into Istanbul.
At least256 people were killed in the clashes, according to Turkey's prime minister. But the uprising itself was repelled rather quickly. Many soldiers were either arrested, had been brutally beaten by protesters, or surrendered by early Saturday morning, allowing the Turkish government to regain almost complete control within 24 hours.
"I predicted this would fail from early on, because all of Turkey's opposition parties came out against the coup from the beginning," Aykan Erdemir, a former member of Turkish parliament and senior fellow at the Washington, DC-based think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Business Insider on Saturday.

Turkey has seen several military coups over the last 50 years, but this latest attempt is different

Turkish military block access to the Bosporus bridge, which links the city's European and Asian sides, in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Turkish military apparently staged a coup on Friday night, deploying military into the streets of Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey's largest city and capital, respectively.
"Turkish Armed Forces have completely taken over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedoms, the rule of law, and the general security that was damaged," a statement, published by a group calling itself the "Peace at Home Council" on TRT, Turkey's state-run broadcaster, read.
But Turkish citizens began flooding the streets in support of President Tayyip Recep Erdogan after he called for citizens to gather and repel the coup.
The military in Turkey has forced out four civilian governments since 1960.
Here's a brief outline, with information collected from WikipediaAl Jazeera,Foreign Affairs, and The Wall Street Journal:

At least 90 people were killed during overnight clashes in capital Ankara following an attempted coup in Turkey. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said a new acting army chief of staff has been appointed after an attempted coup to topple the democratically elected government.

Turkish President Erdorgan has urged supporters to remain in public squares until situation returns to normal and has informed them that his govt. is still in charge.
He added that there is still a small disturbance in Ankara, hopefully it will be overcome soon, says Erdogan.

Stephen King shades the heck out of Donald Trump: "an idiot who can't find his own ass with both hands and a flashlight"

Bestselling international author, Stephen King has described U.S Presidential Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump as "an idiot who can't find his own ass with both hands and a flashlight" He stated this in a tweet posted yesterday.

It wasn't the first time the author has made his dislike for the business mogul known. In an interview with Rolling Stone last month, he said:
"I think that he's sort of the last stand of the sort of American male who feels like women have gotten out of their place and they're letting in all these people that have the wrong skin colours. Trump is extremely popular because people would like to have a world where you just didn't question that the white American was at the top of the pecking order"
On Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, King said:
"Of all the candidates who ran this year, the only one remotely qualified to do the job is Hillary Clinton. There's a lot of prejudice against her, just because she's a woman. Having been raised by a woman and lived in a family where my wife has, like, six sisters, I hate that."

Gun and truck attack leaves 84 dead in Nice: Men, women and kids strewn across road after lorry speeds for a MILE through holiday crowd watching fireworks, before gunman opens fire

Security forces were stretched as the truck hit people indiscriminately as they tried to flee from the carnage last night
A terrorist gunman has killed 84 people and seriously injured 50 more after he used a 25-tonne lorry to go on a mile-long killing spree by mounting pavements at high speed and ploughing through crowds celebrating Bastille Day in Nice last night.
The killer, a 31-year-old French Tunisian who was known to police, then got out and sprayed fleeing revellers with bullets before being shot dead by police.
The truck driver was said to have shouted 'Allahu Akbar' – God is greatest – before being killed. Pro-ISIS groups have been celebrating the attack, orchestrated to coincide with France's most important national holiday.
One eyewitness described seeing 'bodies flying like bowling pins' and others 'jammed' under its wheels as the horror unfolded.
Other brave victims were seen clinging to the doors of the lorry to try to stop the terrorist before being thrown under its wheels on the packed streets at around 10.30pm local time last night. Dead bodies remain strewn across the Promenade de Anglais today.
Some of the victims were children, with one young girl lying dead covered in a blanket with her pink toy doll lying on the floor next to her.
Identity documents belonging to the gunman, more guns and grenades were later found in the bullet-riddled truck after the gunman at the wheel was shot dead by police marksmen, security sources said.
The gunman is believed to be from Nice and was known to police for crimes of theft and violence, but not intelligence services, a police source said. A suspected accomplice is on the run.
A huge cache of guns, grenades and 'larger weapons' were later found inside the lorry, which mounted the pavement at approximately 40mph and steered directly towards hundreds of people watching a fireworks display.
French President Francois Hollande today pledged to 'hit' ISIS in Syria and Iraq 'even harder' after the devastating attack, saying: 'France is in tears, it is hurting but it is strong and she will be stronger - always stronger than the fanatics who wish to hurt us.'

Here's the Definitive, Science-Approved List of the Most Difficult Sex Acts in Music

Here's the Definitive, Science-Approved List of the Most Difficult Sex Acts in Music

It's time to call bullshit.
Yes, music is full of sexually suggestive missives, coy repartee and downright lascivious references. But when you dig through the annals of musical sexuality, most of the acts suggested are exceptionally vanilla. Even some of the steamiest songs of the last couple years feature moves that just aren't logistically complicated.
The most X-rated part of Trey Songz' "Slow Motion" is the line "put this tongue on you." Beyoncé's "Drunk in Love": bathtub sex. Even Ariana Grande's "Dangerous Woman," with its potential as an ode to the taboo act of pegging, is logistically pretty tame. (Hey, with the right tools, most anyone can peg.)
It's the physically demanding and complex moves that deserve attention. They require strength, ingenuity and, occasionally, aliens.
So here are some explicit lyrics ranked by difficulty and impossibility. All you have to do is interpret lines like "How I make a Sprite can disappear in my mouth" 100% literally.
