Nelly Furtado’s sixth album — and first full-length in four years — will soon arrive. She tells The Times Colonistthat her follow-up to 2012’s The Spirit Indestructible this November.
The new album will be of songs Nelly wrote on the guitar, as she did with her 2000 debut Whoa, Nelly!, making The Spirit Indestructible her “final pop album.” (Translation: Don’t expect another Loose, either.)
“It’s like when you squeeze a lemon, and you really want to get out that last bit of juice,” Nelly said of the approach to her latest material. “I have shed another layer of skin.”
One song featured on Nelly’s new album is called “Phoenix,” a title she also borrowed for her July 25 concert with the Victoria Symphony benefitting Syrian refugees. “Behind Your Back,” released July 13, won’t be included. “It’s a palette cleanse…an appetizer,” she says.
