Cristiano Ronaldo Scores a Bugatti Veyron after European Championship Victory

Along with the UEFA European Championship trophy, Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have brought back another souvenir from France this week, reportedly a brand new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. After captaining Portugal’s national team to a 1-0 victory over the French squad in the finals of the continent’s most prestigious soccer tournament, the highest paid athlete in the world (for 2016) awarded himself the French marque’s mercury-quick machine priced at about $1.7 million. The famed footballer posted two pictures of his latest automotive acquisition with the caption: “The animal arrive.”

Bugatti’s convertible version of the Veyron 16.4 is indeed a brilliant beast. The car carries a 1,200 hp, quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder engine (cranking out 1,106 ft lbs of torque) that propels the vehicle from zero to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 255 mph. Production of the Veyron 16.4 and its variants concluded last year, replaced by the 1,500 hp Bugatti Chiron—the highest-powered production car ever created. With the Chiron starting at $2.6 million, it may take a World Cup win before Ronaldo makes more room in his garage. (bugatti.com)
