Jailed: Simon James has been locked up for five years

A personal fitness trainer who infected two unsuspecting women with HIV has been jailed for five years.

Simon James, 46, did not inform his victims that he was HIV-positive before having sex with them on a number of occasions.

He later admitted he had the virus but insisted the medication he was taking eradicated any risk of the women contracting it.

Bristol Crown Court heard James refused to wear condoms as he claimed he was allergic to them, they were uncomfortable and did not fit him.

James was not taking medication or attending hospital appointments during the time he had unprotected sex with the women, between 2007 and 2013.

He denied two counts of grievous bodily harm by recklessly transmitting HIV but was convicted by a jury following a five-day trial in October.

A man was shot dead by police after he ‘came out firing’ as armed officers thwarted an audacious bid to spring a convicted carjacker from a nearby court.

Two other men were arrested as the drama unfolded at 9am just yards from Wood Green Crown Court in north London.

Police are believed to have been tipped off that an attempt would be made to free Turkish nationals Erwin Amoyaw-Gyamfi and Erun Izzet as they attended court to be sentenced for carjacking and firearms offences.

Another two men were arrested in a nearby street in connection with the incident.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack on a guest house near the Spanish embassy in Kabul on Friday, and said fighting was still going on at the scene.

Gunfire was reported immediately following the explosion, in a heavily protected area of the capital close to many foreign embassies and government buildings. Officials said police were on the scene.

Chef killed after he fell on a wine glass and bled to death on family holiday

A chef was killed after he fell on his wine glass while on holiday, an inquest heard .

Father-of-two Sam Sommerville, 36, bled to death after the glass he was holding pierced his neck.

Mr Sommerville was on a seaside caravan park holiday, near Withernsea, East Yorks, with his family when the accident happened on August 15, this year.

An inquest into his death at Hull Coroner’s Court heard how he had been staying at his father and stepmother’s caravan at Sand Le Mere Caravan Park in Tunstall, where he was visiting with his wife and children.

Oklahoma ex-police officer accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen women has been found guilty

After four days of deliberations, an Oklahoma jury reached a verdict in the case of a former police officer accused of raping and sexually assaulting 13 women while on duty.

Former Oklahoma City policeman Daniel Holtzclaw was found guilty on 18 of 36 counts, including four counts of rape in the first degree.

Oklahoma's News9 channel is reporting that the sentences add up to 263 years in prison.

Sentencing is set for January. Holtzclaw could face life in prison.

Bollywood star, Salma Khan acquited in a hit-and-run case

An appeal court on Thursday, December 10, has acquitted Bollywood star Salman Khan in a drunken-driving, hit-and-run case from more than a decade ago. The Bombay High Court on threw out an earlier conviction and five-year sentence given the 49-year-old actor.

 The Press Trust of India news agency quoted the judges as saying that prosecutors had failed to prove charges accusing Khan of driving while intoxicated in 2002 and running over five men sleeping on a sidewalk, killing one of them.

Former Mouseketeer Marque 'Tate' Lynche Found Dead At 34

Marque "Tate" Lynche, a former Disney Mouseketeer and "American Idol" contestant, was found dead in his New York City apartment on Sunday, Dec. 6, according to TMZ. Lynche was 34. 

Lynche appeared on Season 3 of "American Idol" and starred in Broadway's "Lion King" in 2000. He performed alongside the likes of Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Ryan Gosling during his 1993-1995 stint with Disney's "Mickey Mouse Club."

"There was no note, no pills," said police in a conversation with the New York Daily News, after deeming the death suspicious. "We're waiting on the medical examiner."

Vladimir Putin has warned that a new underwater missile system deployed by Russian submarines in the war against ISIS in Syria could be equipped with nuclear warheads.

Islamic State militants are making £26 million a month selling oil with large volume going to the Syrian government, it's been claimed.

U.S. officials say the terrorist organisation is engaged in a major oil trade with some finding its way to Turkey.

Senior U.S. Treasury official Adam Szubin today said: "ISIL is selling a great deal of oil to the Assad regime.

"The volumes we are talking about and the amounts of money we are talking about are very sizeable."

Szubin, acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence with the U.S. Treasury, was speaking at Chatham House in London.

Tyson Fury has been stripped of his IBF world heavyweight title.

The Brit beat long-standing champion Wladimir Klitschko with a stunning display in Dusseldorf last month.

In doing so, he took Klitschko's four belts - but the Ukranian confirmed last weekthat he had opted to exercise his right to a rematch.

And the IBF have now removed Fury as their champion after he failed to fight his mandatory challenger.

Fury had been urged to fight Vyacheslav Glazkov, with calls for purse bids made just two days after the original bout.

A little girl who was badly burnt in a fire that killed her father and siblings wants one thing for Christmas - greetings cards.

Safyre Terry has appealed online for the world to share the special day with her, as her own family is no longer around to do so.

In 2013 Safyre’s home in Schenectady, New York was destroyed by arson, killing her father David Terry and three younger siblings.

The little girl only survived the blaze because her father shielded her with his body.

French police have identified a third attacker involved in the Bataclan massacre last month, according to sources.

Gunmen wearing suicide belts burst into the Paris venue during an Eagles of Death Metal concert.

Authorities said that 90 people died at the concert hall.

Responsibility for the atrocity was later claimed by Islamic State.

Suspected burglar hiding from the Police gets attacked, eaten by alligator

Authorities say a man who may have hidden as officers investigated reports of two suspicious men in a Florida community targeted by recent burglaries was killed by an 11-foot alligator.

Brevard County Sheriff's Maj. Tod Goodyear says 22-year-old Matthew Riggins told his girlfriend he would be in Barefoot Bay to commit burglaries with another suspect. Authorities received calls Nov. 13 about two suspicious men in black walking behind homes and investigated. Riggins was reported missing the next day.

Goodyear said sheriff's divers recovered Riggins' body 10 days later in a nearby lake and the injuries were consistent with an alligator attack. Authorities said Riggins had drowned and the alligator, which behaved aggressively toward divers, was trapped and euthanized. They also claimed that parts of Riggins' body were found inside the alligator.

Florida Today reports a second person has been taken into custody.

Drug cartels are battling over land revenues in Mexico's 'gold belt'

Heroin traffickers linked to the abduction and disappearance of43 students a year ago are battling over millions of dollars paid by Canadian mining giant Goldcorp to a village in Mexico's southern gold belt, leading to a wave of murders.

As a signatory to a Conflict-Free Gold Standard drawn up by the World Gold Council industry group, Goldcorp commits to extracting the precious metal in a manner that "does not fuel unlawful armed conflict or contribute to serious human rights abuses."

But residents of Carrizalillo in the impoverished state of Guerrero say the some $3m a year in rent paid by Goldcorp for their land, which the mine is built on, is fueling a bloody feud between two rival cartels. Village authorities say the company is not doing all it can to protect them.

Conductor kills man a week before his travel date to the US over N50

Babatunde Omoyeni, a web designer who planned to travel on the 10th of December to spend his Christmas and New Year holidays  in the United States of America, has been killed in Lagos over N50.

After obtaining all travel documents, he boarded a bus on Saturday and gave the conductor N500, but the conductor told him he didn’t have N450 change, because the fare was N50. When they got to the bus stop, Omoyeni  demanded his change and a fight ensued.

An Alfa in the bus intervened and the fight ended. But the conductor, who was still upset by the incident followed the victim to his house unbeknownst to the victim.

Transgender brother and sister swap sexes one month apart

 A brother and sister have swapped genders after they came out to their parents as transgender just a month apart.

At just three years old, Aly McGarrity was a tomboy who enjoyed playing football with the boys, while older sibling Russie, then 5, preferred playing dress up with the girls.

For Russie, now known as Rai, the next few years were hard, her mother Beth told Good Housekeeping.

At high school, she was bullied by other students but refused to bow to pressure to conform and adopted an androgynous look.

'I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not,' she told her parents.

Mrs McGarrity, from Connecticut, says she always knew her children were a little different.

But she, and husband Russ, became worried about Rai who slowly spiraled into depression.
