Uganda killer Maid Sentenced To 4 years In Prison For Abusing Toddler
The shocking video which shows the maid abusing the 18-month old child by kicking, hitting, punching. stamping etc sparked world wide outrage after it went viral.
The 22-year-old maid originally pleaded guilty last week to torture, but later the charge was reduced to abuse, to which she also pleaded guilty to on Friday.
Tumuhiirwe on Monday remained apparently emotionless as her sentence was handed down in a court in Kampala.
Chief Magistrate Lillian Buchan told Tumuhiirwe she had committed an ‘unjustifiable and inexcusable’ crime.
She gave her a four-year sentence due to the ‘ruthlessness exhibited’ on an ‘innocent, helpless child.’
On Friday, she said the attack was revenge after she was beaten by the child’s mother.
The mother denied beating her. Earlier charges of torture were dropped.
The video footage, which prompted the case, came from a camera the child’s father, Eric Kamanzi, had installed in his home after noticing his daughter was bruised and limping.
He reported the abuse to police last month and circulated the video online to family members. The footage was later shared more widely, provoking horror and upset internationally.
After the sentencing, Mr Kamanzi said:
“It’s not for us to decide the punishment for what she committed”.
“We hope this has set an example for other maids out there, that you can’t just go to someone’s house and torture their baby and expect to walk out,” AFP reports
Police have recommended that parents do background checks with friends, neighbours, local police, council and previous employers before taking on nannies or maids given these responsibilities.

Keyshia Cole 30-Day Jail Sentence Looms For Being Alcohol Ed Truant
Keyshia Cole faces jail time over a DUI she got a decade ago ... and no one would have been the wiser had she not flown into a jealous rage in Birdman's condo.
Cole was in a L.A. County court this week ... trying to explain to a judge that a very old arrest warrant was a gigantic mistake. The warrant was issued in 2004, because Keyshia failed to submit proof to the judge that she completed her alcohol ed class after a 2002 DUI conviction.
Keyshia's lawyer tried explaining the singer completed the course, but the judge was unmoved. There was no paperwork to prove it, so the judge indicated he'd throw her in jail for 30 days.
But the judge also showed some mercy, telling Keyshia's lawyer he would let her skate if they could submit proof she finished the classes. A hearing is set for February.
Now here's the bitch. Authorities had no idea there was a warrant and probably wouldn't know, but when Keyshia was arrested in September for assaulting a woman in Birdman's condo, cops did a warrant check and ... bingo.
Boyfriends cause such trouble.

breaking news:Jeremih Arrested For Being Just Plane Stupid
R&B singer Jeremih was arrested Friday at Newark Airport ... after trying to strong-arm a friend onto a plane.
Port Authority officials tell us Jeremih was travelling with members of his band on US Air. Apparently they were late, because Jeremih barely made it onto the jetway that leads to the plane but several members of his band were left high and dry when the door closed.
Jeremih and a friend somehow pried open the jetway door and at least one of the wayward guys scurried through.
Here's the thing. That's illegal. So Jeremih and his friend were yanked off the plane, arrested and charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct. The guy who tried sneaking onto the plane was charged with defiant trespass.
Not the first time he's caused a Fuddruckus in public.

Samsung's virtual-reality kit, Gear VR, finally launches
Samsung is making a big jump into virtual reality, and it hopes early adopters will follow along.
The company's first virtual-reality headgear, the Gear VR Innovator Edition, was made available on Monday through AT&T's and Samsung's websites for $199, but only in the US. It launched with 17 apps, including a few from partner Oculus, which Samsung worked with on the product, and a few other games.
Gear VR represents Samsung's attempt to raise awareness and interest in virtual-reality technology, a burgeoning area pioneered by Oculus. The headset requires a Galaxy Note 4smartphone to act as the display and brains, while developer kits created by Oculus utilize a PC. The Gear VR's "Innovator Edition" moniker, like Google Glass' "Explorer Edition," suggests limited volumes as Samsung essentially runs a beta test with willing early adopters.
"Our metric for success is for people to like our product, engage with it and build up daily habits," said Nick DiCarlo, vice president of immersive products and virtual reality for Samsung. "It's not selling lots and lots of units."
DiCarlo declined to say how many Gear VR units Samsung expects to sell.
With Samsung's once-mighty smartphone business starting to dent its profits, and the tablet market cooling, the company is looking elsewhere for an injection of growth. Virtual reality is an area that has garnered excitement, even if there is no clear indication of consumer interest. In July, Facebook purchased Oculus for $2 billion. Sony is pushing into VR with its Project Morpheus headset, intended to be an extension to its PlayStation 4 video game console.
Samsung wants to get in on the ground floor, coming out with the Gear VR before Oculus itself comes out with its own product. And it appears Samsung is willing to play the long game on this bet.
"We're in this for the long haul and it's about getting a lot of lessons learned fast so we can make something that can scale in the future," DiCarlo said.
The user base will likely be limited to start. The "Innovator Edition" tagline suggests the Gear VR will appeal to early VR enthusiasts, developers or people in the industry interested in creating video in that format.
DiCarlo wouldn't say when he thought the Gear VR or virtual-reality technology would hit the mainstream. "I'm not in a rush," he said.
The Gear VR is being shown around at select malls across the country, as well as hit festivals and confabs like the Consumer Electronics Show, DiCarlo said.
Games include Anshar Wars, a multiplayer space shooter, and theBlu, an exploration of undersea life, Samsung said.
DiCarlo hinted at broader compatibility with future Samsung devices. He said that the Galaxy Note 4 represented the baseline equipment required for the virtual reality to work, specifically its screen density and processing power. Future devices, presumably running on superior specifications, would work.
"We're treating the Note 4 as the minimum, and we'll be building from there," he said.

Dana Air flight 537 is a disaster waiting to happen – A passenger’s ordeal
by Simon Ateba
At 30,000 feet above sea level, up there in the sky and just five minutes after taking off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, western Nigeria, the Dana Air Flight 537 to Abuja began to bounce, shake and struggle.
This was just few minutes to four o’clock in the afternoon and this was when the over 20-year old MD-83 Dana plane was filled to capacity.
The weather was great, the sun was up and turbulence was minimal when we all left Lagos excited to visit Nigeria’s luxurious capital of Abuja.
I was going to Abuja to attend a bloggers’ party at House Forty Three located at 43 Gana Street in Maitama, a highbrow area in Abuja. The party was organised by “A Login Bloggers Network Initiative” with the theme #WetinUDeyBlogSef.
It was an event that had been in the pipeline for two months and excitement was at the very peak.
However, few minutes after taking off, the engine began scream and the plane began to go up and down. We will begin to go down and down and then up and up in za sudden switch.
Passengers on board the old plane began to pray. I wanted to sleep, but sleep failed to come and when food was served, I did not have strength to eat. I was petrified.
This was in addition to the heat. It was as if the cooling system had crashed right from before the old plane took off.
A cabin crew who received a complaint from a passenger said the plane was hot because there were many people on board.
The second cabin crew told us when the plane takes off and we fly for some minutes the cooling system will be normalised.
We all pray for a safe flight, not sure we will make it to Abuja. The latest scare came few minutes to landing. The loud sound that was coming from the engine was similar to the once banned Molue buses on Lagos chaotic traffic snarls.
The noise lasted until we touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja more than an hour after we left Lagos contrary to the 55 minutes we were told for the duration of the flight.
At landing, passengers began to thank their God for a miraculous flight. One passenger approached airport authorities to lodge an official complaint. Another said he had been flying Dana in recent times and it has always been smooth but added: “this very plane seems to be faulty”.
The Dana Air flight 537 to Abuja from Lagos on Friday afternoon almost crashed and may crash in few months if nothing is done fast by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.
You know, I have lived long enough, and got white hair by the way to know that whether here in Abuja, central Nigeria, where I am writing this, thanking God for my life or over there, wherever you’re reading it, the truth remains that if that plane is not fixed urgently, it will kill many people in just few weeks.
