"I Stabbed Her With A Scissors But Didn't Know She Would Die"- Suspect Who Killed Girlfriend For Turning Down His Proposal

Suspect and late Gift
Suspect and late Gift
As 26 year-old girl, Gift Sunday, left her abode in Ketu , Lagos, to meet her boyfriend, Raphael Effiong, who had invited her over on phone, Monday, July 28, 2014. Never, in her wildest imagination, did she envisage that would be her last day on earth.
Time was 8.30pm, shortly after the Anietie family whom Gift stayed with, had their dinner.
While other members of the family retired early, Gift announced that she was going to meet her boyfriend, who was well known by the family.
But apprehension reportedly set in when she did not return by midnight. Tension, heightened after efforts to reach her on the phone proved abortive as it was discovered to be switched off.

Next day, the family’s fear was confirmed following the visit of a woman later discovered to be a management staff of Mayor Guest house located at 10 Yusuf Eleran street, Ketu. The woman was said to have invited Gift’s sister , Mrs Ume Anietie to Fine Day hospital at Elebiju street, where she was informed that Gift had passed on!

Love gone sour
Gift, as gathered, was stabbed in the arm and breast by her boyfriend, Raphael at the guest house.
A man who claimed to have witnessed it all told Crime Guard that :“I was seeing a friend off, when I heard the shout of help from the hotel. I sensed all was not well and went to the hotel to inform the staff. They told me it was normal to hear lovers shout. But I insisted that the shout was not that of pleasure but of panic and pain. It was at that point that we all rushed to the room and forced the door open. To our disbelief, we saw a lady on the floor with a deep cut in her hand from where blood was gushing out. The man with her was holding a pair of scissors.

Delay
At first ,nobody knew what to do. We told the man to take her to the hospital but he could not carry her because she was big in size. We all carried her outside with blood still gushing out from the deep cut in her hand.
It took about 30 to 40 minutes before she was rushed to Fine Day hospital. Even when she got there, the doctors did not attend to her on time. It was not until the Police at Alapere division called and instructed them to commence treatment on her that they started attending to her and we left”, the eye witness narrated.

Her Last words
Doctors at Fine Day hospital were said to have managed to revive Gift. In an inaudible tone, she was said to have told some of the hospital staff that it was not the first time Raphael would beat her .
According to one of the hospital workers who spoke on condition of anonymity : “ She told us that was not the first time her boyfriend would beat her. She said anytime he sees her with any man, he would beat her, both in the open. She also said that was why she decided  not marry him, so that he would not kill her someday”
At a point, Gift could not reportedly speak, as she complained of weakness. Unfortunately, she could not make it owing to loss of blood. Had blood been transfused into Gift, she would have probably lived to share her ordeal,Crime Guard gathered.

Why I killed her
Raphael as gathered, attempted to escape, on noticing the magnitude of his action. But he was apprehended by staff of the hotel who handed him over to policemen at Alapere, from where he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,SCID, Yaba, Thursday.
At the SCID, Raphael told operatives of the Homicide section that he stabbed Gift because she refused to marry him.
According to the Akwa-Ibom State suspect:“I never knew she would die. I never meant to kill her. I only wanted to threaten her with the scissors. We have been going out for a year and I loved her so much … I proposed to her but she turned down my proposal, saying she couldn’t marry me. I have begged her several times to have a change of mind but she didn’t.
I have invested so much on her with the hope of marrying her some day. But I never knew she was only deceiving me, by playing on my intelligence. I just could not stand her getting married to another person. The mere thought of that sends me crazy”, he said, begging the deceased’s family members to forgive him. But members of the deceased’s family are of the opinion that the act was preconceived, asking why the suspect took a scissors to the guest house in the first place.

The late Gift, as gathered, was a fashion designer. She was said to have been living with her sister since 2005, from where she went to secondary school and thereafter, learnt fashion designing. Until her death, she was said to have sewn wedding gowns for different would -be brides, including those of their bridal trains, with the hope of sewing for herself someday.
She was said to have boasted to close friends that she would make the best for herself when the time came, unaware that she would not live to witness the day. She had reportedly told close friends that her choice of husband was a God-fearing man, little wonder she accepted to go out with Raphael in the first instance , as they met in the church. But along the line, Raphael reportedly left the church, shortly after which he started demonstrating his battering tendency.
The deceased’s elder sister , Mrs Anietie, who is yet to come to terms with Gift’s demise, said amidst tears: “ She was a very hard working lady. She was cheerful and was like a daughter to me. I will forever miss her”.
Spokes person for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide , said the suspect would be charged to court at the end of investigation.

Late Christy Essien Igbokwe's husband opens up on new wife

Three years after he lost his wife, late iconic singer Christy Essien Igbokwe, Chief Edwin Igbokwe secretly married Oluchi Phillips. What many don't know about his new wife is that she's an actress who has featured in the highly watched soap opera, Tinsel, and aparingly in other movies.

The couple knew each other for many years and were good friends, so it was only natural that he would turn to her when he needed a partner to spend the rest of his life with. Mr Igbokwe explains;
"It was a family thing. I knew her father before the war. She is 42 years old. I also knew her mother. Even when my mother died many years ago, they came to pay condolence visit all the way from their place. You know, when people who are close to you are coming from a far place. They come with yam, palm oil and other things. They did that and that was when the mother introduced her to me as her daughter and I, as her son. It was mummy (late Christy Essien) that received them in Awka. So mummy knew her but there was nothing then. Let me tell you, you know mummy was spiritual. It wasn't me who invited her. What would I be proving if it was me who invited her? When mummy passed on, she came to Niteshift and other places where we met again.
You know I was interviewed by a newspaper then and I said 'Look there is no way I can get married again' but it happened as time went on. When I now mentioned to her that I wanted to get married, she said, after what you said in the papers, you still want to get married? I said what I said in the paper was what I said by the time I said it, that was how I felt. After a while. I told her if she knew who I want to marry, she said no. I said it is you! She said how could that be? What would her mother say and all that questions? By then mummy's death wasn't two years. She told me that the mother and herself concluded that if I wanted to get married, I should get married to whoever I wanted. That if mummy's death is not up to two years, nothing for me from her, that they want to give her that respect. So after three years of her death, we got married".

KILLER ON THE RUN:Police searching for Nigerian who allegedly committed murder in the UK and fled to Nigeria

The guy pictured on the left is Jeffrey Okafor, the UK police is searching for him over the 2009 murder of Carl Beatson Asiedu (pictured right - who is also Nigerian). He was stabbed to death in the early hours of August 1 2009 outside a night club after an argument with Jeffery and his friends. Jeffery then fled to Nigeria after the murder. Read full story from the Independent UK below
"The family of a children’s television actor murdered outside a London club have made an emotional appeal for information as the police offer a £10,000 reward.
Carl Beatson Asiedu, who appeared in CBBC’s MI High series, was stabbed to death in five years ago aged just 19.
Police believe they know the identity of his killer but have been unable to find him for five years after he allegedly fled to Nigeria. Continue...

CCTV of Jeffrey Okafor at Heathrow Airport in 2009 - the last time he was seen.
Jeffrey Okafor left the UK on 17 August 2009, days after the murder, and was last captured on CCTV boarding a flight to the country at Heathrow Airport using his brother’s passport, the Metropolitan Police said.

Four men, including Okafor’s brother, have been convicted of charges relating to the murder but police are offering £10,000 to anyone who can help them trace the man they believed stabbed the teenager.

Mr Asiedu, the son of a pastor and a midwife, died in the street after being stabbed in the heart in the early hours of 1 August 2009.

Known as DJ Charmz, he had just performed a set at the Club Life nightclub in Vauxhall, south London, and was walking to a car with friends when he was attacked.

Police said another group approached and an argument broke out with one of Mr Asiedu’s friends, apparently over a “trivial” college dispute.

Mr Asiedu and his friend Peter Lama, who survived, were stabbed in the following attack, while their friends fled.

They returned to find Mr Asiedu collapsed in the road and tried to drive him to hospital but despite first aid from police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead in the car.
His father, John Asiedu, said he will never be free of the pain of his son’s death and suffers fresh grief every time he hears of a stabbing. He said:
“Part of me died with him and I have to carry on living with what is left of me. Carl's tragic death has changed my view of life, people, the justice system and the world.I would urge Jeffrey Okafor to do the right thing and give himself up. I believe there are people in Nigeria who know him but don't know who he really is.
“I believe he is living comfortably with a new life. Sometimes I wonder how such killers can lead normal lives with their families and friends who sometimes protect and shield them from the law.
"I am still serving the life sentence of sorrow and pain embedded in my consciousness.”
Detective Inspector Alison Hepworth, from the Met’s murder division, said Okafor could be living a “comfortable life” in Nigeria while his family’s heartache continues.
“We know there are people in UK supporting him in his new life in Nigeria and are shielding him from facing justice,” she added.
“I would appeal to those people - his friends or family - if you have in some way helped to aid his escape, now is your opportunity to do the right thing and tell us where he is.”

Junior Okafor – the suspect’s brother – was sentenced to four years imprisonment in 2010 for assisting his brother’s escape to Nigeria.

Members of the group involved in the confrontation with Mr Asiedu’s friends, Bolaji Kako-Are and Abu Mansaray, were convicted of violent disorder in 2011 and each sentenced to three years in prison.

Another of Okafor’s associate’s, Junior Ademujimi-Falade, was found guilty of violent disorder and manslaughter and jailed for eight years in 2011.

Scotland Yard has been working with Nigerian authorities in their efforts to trace Okafor.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0208 721 4005, calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or by emailing jeffreyokaforwanted@met.police.uk.

Police arrest killer of wealthy Lagos business woman

The prime suspect in the killing of 39 year old Lizzy Njideka Nzewe, Kelechi Williams, an indigene of Umorji, Anambra state, has been arrested in Cote D'Ivoire.

Kelechi, 33, is accused of strangling Mrs Nzewe to death at her Green Estate Amuwo Odofin resident in Lagos on Monday July 21st. She was until her death a manager at Edmark Nigeria limited, and was a divorced mother of 4. She was in a relationship with the killer as at the time of her murder.

Police claim Kelechi is a serial killer with a criminal past. He was formerly based in South Africa where he was declared wanted by the South African police after committing a series of crimes. He fled SA for Ghana where he lived until he met Mrs Nzewe and started shuttling between Ghana and Nigeria to spend time with his older lover.

According to reports, things between the lovebirds was going well until Kelechi proposed marriage to Mrs Njideka which she turned down. He decided then to kill her and steal from her. Continue...

On the day of the murder on Monday July 21st, late Mrs Lizzy Njideka was said to have gone to the bank with Kelechi to withdraw N4million for a holiday trip she was planning for herself and her 4 kids abroad. After withdrawing the money, the couple went back to the woman's house (pictured above). Nobody knows what transpired between them but around 2.30am early the next morning, Kelechi came out of the house, asked the security guard to open the gate for him and drove out with Mrs Nzewe's Range Rover SUV. The security guard said he didn't try to stop Kelechi because he's a well known guest at the home who had often driven his madam's car.

Many hours later, the woman's body was found strangled in her home. Kelechi also allegedly took her $50,000, valuables worth over N8million as well as her mobile phones and ATM cards.

Relatives who discovered her body immediately contacted the Nigeria Police Area E command in Festac town who examined her body and thereafter deposited her corpse in a mortuary. Then they launched a full scale investigation.
After committing the crime, Kelechi fled to Ghana and then to Cote d' Voire. He was arrested in the country on July 29th by the Cote d Voire police command following a smooth collaborative effort by the Nigerian, Ghanian and Cote D Voire police force. He has been extradited to Ghana and will soon be extradited to Nigeria where he will face murder charges.

Mysterious death at Lagoon Restaurant: Keyamo petitions IG of Police

Below is a petition to the Inspector General of Police from Festus Keyamo chambers about a staff of Lagoon Restaurant in VI who drowned while on duty. Read below...
Suspicious death of Mr. Chris Onaghise: A case of culpable homicide against the management of Lagoon Restaurant, Lagos
We are solicitors to Mr. Orobosa Onaghise (hereinafter referred to as ‘our Client’) on whose instructions we write to you.
Our Client briefed us as follows: That the Late Mr. Chris Onaghise (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Deceased’) is his son and until his demise, a staff of Lagoon Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos. Our client further informed us that on Monday 16th June, 2014, he received a telephone call from a lady (who did not want to be identified) informing him that something tragic had happened to the deceased at his workplace. Our client consequently rushed to the Lagoon Restaurant but despite his best efforts could only arrive there after two (2) hours. Upon arriving at the Lagoon Restaurant, our client was informed that the deceased fell into the lagoon while on duty at about 10:00am that morning and was still in the lagoon.
Now listen, the pics after the cut are really graphic. It was sent to me so I figure they want people to see what happened to this young man so I will share it...but be warned it's really graphic. Continue..

Our client demanded to know why no immediate rescue efforts were made to rescue the deceased and one Mr. Rami, the Managing Director of the Lagoon Restaurant informed our client that the Restaurant had no life jackets, divers or indeed safety apparatus. Upon our client’s persistence, the Managing Director invited a lady vide a telephone conversation who identified herself as a Police Officer from Bar Beach Police Station in charge of the investigations .

On enquiry as to the extent of investigations, our client was bluntly informed by the Police Offices that investigations had been concluded and that she believed that the deceased slipped, fell into the lagoon and consequently lost his life. Our client was curious as to how the investigations could have been concluded when the body of the deceased was still in the Lagoon and none of the eye-witnesses or the management of the Lagoon Restaurant had been questioned. Our client’s concerns were ignored by the Police Officer and the deceased was abandoned in the Lagoon despite the agitations of our client till10:00pm.
Our client further informed us that the next day (17th June, 2014), he visited the Bar beach Police Station where he met with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and enquired about the recovery of the body of the deceased and further investigation, to our client’s utter bewilderment, the DPO denied knowledge of the existence of the case and the allegedly concluded investigations. The DPO subsequently ordered an investigation and an invitation of all the eye witnesses including the Managing Director of the Lagoon Restaurant.
The DPO subsequently directed a recovery of the body of the deceased. At about 10:00pm on Tuesday, 17th June, 2014, the body of the deceased was allegedly recovered from the same spot in which he was said to have slipped. A cursory look at the body of the deceased disclosed bruises and blood stains all over the face suggestive of a physical confrontation before the alleged drowning. To further confirm the foregoing suspicions, the deceased body did not show any signs of bowel enlargement consistent with drowning. Do find attached images of the body of the deceased to buttress the foregoing.

The question begging to be answered arising from these facts are as follows:

1.   Why is the obvious physical state of the body of the deceased inconsistent with the management’s narration of events leading to the death?
2.   In the unlikely event that the management of Lagoon Restaurant’s account of events is accurate, what are the safety measures put in place by the management of the Lagoon Restaurant to prevent such occurrence, since it carries on business in a high risk environment?
3.   Why was the staff that called to inform our client of the incident sacked immediately?
4.   Why did the management of the Lagoon Restaurant break into the deceased personal locker while the key to the said locker was found on the deceased’s body?

We are consequently constrained to write this petition to your exalted office as our client has become increasingly frustrated with the nonchalant attitude with which the Bar Beach Police Station is handling the investigations and the desperate efforts of Mr. Rami, the Managing Director of the Lagoon Restaurant (a Lebanese national) to conceal and destroy evidence that will aid the authorities to resolve all the queries raised by the foregoing facts.

We therefore urge you to use your good offices to order a full investigation and Coroner’s Inquest for the purpose of resolving the foregoing questions and consequently prefer criminal charges against all those found culpable.

We anticipate your urgent intervention in this matter.

11 Signs You're a Parent

You MIGHT be a parent if any of these have ever happened to you. Here are 11 ways to tell you're a parent. Kids, man.

Potty Time
What is it about going to the bathroom that acts as a Bat Signal for children, alarming them to your whereabouts and begging them to be your audience whilst you do your business?

Five Second Rule

The five second rule takes on a whole new meaning when you're a parent. Is that chocolate on the carpet or poop?

Let It Go!

YOU are more impressed with childrens' music than your children and you don't even care who knows it. SING IT, PARENTS!

A Little TOO Quiet

A quiet house is probably not a good house because if your kids are quiet there's a good chance this is happening.
TV Time

You SHOULD go to sleep when the kids are in bed, but it's the first time all day you've had control of the television so you embrace it and pay for it the next morning.

Let Sleeping Moms Lie

Sleeping until 7 a.m. is now considered "sleeping in" and you've woken up in a dark living room more than once with no recollection of falling asleep.

Sweat Shop

You're still wearing the sweats you were wearing yesterday (and the day before). Bonus? You've figured out how to put those puppies to use.

Vacation

Grocery shopping alone feels like a vacation and grocery shopping with children should be an Olympic sport. You'd totally get a gold medal! Or bronze. Whichever.

Parents Say the Darnedest Things

Some things come out of your mouth and you have flashbacks to that one party at college and realize that toddlers are basically tiny drunk people.

Mom, Over Here!

Any time you hear the word "MOM!" shouted in your general direction in public, your head turns involuntarily. Then you realize it wasn't even your kid who yelled.

Relaxing? What's That?

The only way this happens is if the kids are sleeping over at Grandma's house. And even then, you're probably just crashing. In your sweats
