Ben Affleck’s Batman Costume: Fan Reactions & Internet Memes

Movie fans and online commenters had a field day when director Zack Snyder revealed the very first look at Ben Affleck’s Batman costume, officially kicking off the marketing of Batman vs. Superman like only a new superhero suit can. And fans (and critics) wasted no time in making their opinions known. However, a select few took the opportunity to show their devotion in a more… creative way.

Awesome Alternate Spiderman Suits Revealed

Just as they did with the announcement of Ben Affleck’s casting, and more recently with the official cast announcement of Star Wars: Episode VII, fans took to the Internet to prove that genre film enthusiasts are more committed than most (or maybe, just maybe, have some free time on their hands for their favorite character).
In this case, while opinion on how perfect or groundbreaking the Frank Miller/Jim Lee styled costume may be varied, most seem to agree that the suit is worth closer inspection. Especially since the first photo (like the teaser image of the Batmobile before it) is delivered without color. So: first things first.

Let’s Add Some Color

It took little time for fans to start taking artistic liberties, and showing what possible color schemes Snyder might be after, drawing on a number of different comic book and TV variations. We’ve picked out a few of the best (or most memorable) for fans to inspect:

The above image didn’t take long to begin circulating on reddit, applying a subtle color, in keeping with Zack Snyder’s muted style seen in Man of Steel. We would wager that this is likely the closest fans will get to the finished suit until it’s officially revealed in color, but it certainly isn’t the only version fans have crafted in the time since the image appeared online.

Frank Miller

Staying true to the comic book roots of Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns” is Twitter user JJ Stubbs, sticking to the simple grey and black color scheme that, all things considered, is probably the safest bet of what to expect in the finished film. The ‘less is more’ style is as comic book-ish as colorized versions get, but others chose to go even farther outside the box.

Jim Lee

No comic book artist has shown a better ability to capture the iconic look and feel of Batman better than Jim Lee – which led writer/director Kevin Smith to embrace Zack Snyder when he saw this first image of Affleck in a suit that was “very Jim Lee influenced.” With that in mind, i09 user ‘Mandara’ concocted the above image, adopting the grey and blue color scheme that has become Lee’s trademark. Needless to say, the finished result would do just fine onscreen.

New 52

Those who believe that a Batsuit isn’t a Batsuit without a yellow utility belt will be pleased with the above design, modeled by i09 user ‘Name Classified’ after DC’s ‘New 52′ color scheme. If the suit revealed by Snyder is the official finished design, then the yellow belt seems to be a thing of the past. But hopefully this selection shows that even a shift in color palette can deliver a wide range of Batmen, so there’s always hope for the future.
And just in case these were a little too… tame for a new age of Batman, the next image should prove that black and grey may not be the worst options:

Once fans got over the shock of seeing a Batman costume shaped by cloth, not plate armor or rubber, viewers noticed something else about the image: Ben Affleck is one downcast Dark Knight. Obviously, the hero has a reason to be sad – beyond the death of his parents in front of his eyes – as Zack Snyder has promised an older, more seasoned and world-weary Batman in the upcoming sequel.
But regardless of the reasons, online Photoshoppers wasted no time in turning Affleck into one truly heartbreaking meme.

Check Out the First Official Photo from the Set of 'Star Wars Episode VII'

Production has officially kicked off on Star Wars: Episode VII, and with 581 days until its December 18, 2015 release, we have 581 days left to anticipate the sequel many fans have been waiting their entire lives to see. To celebrate the start of production, J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot tweeted out this first image from the set, revealing a clapboard featuring the title (minus a subtitle) and the names of director J.J. Abrams and cinematographer Daniel Mindel. Oh, it's on!

So what do we know about Episode VII? Well, we know it picks up 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and the three lead castmembers from the original trilogy -- Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) -- are all returning. Other actors appearing in the film who have been announced include:
John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (a relative newcommer), Adam Driver (HBO's Girls),  Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2D2).

This is sooooooo messy. Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame got busted for cheating after his alleged side-piece created a fake Instagram account (@ijusthavetokeepitreal) just to post incriminating pics of them in bed together (and it’s CLEARLY Waka by his tats and hair.) The side heaux even went as far as @’ing his fiancee, Tammy Rivera, saying the two were together less than a month ago. After his supposed cheating ways were exposed, a bunch of women also came to Tammy telling her how her man has been on a bunch of dating websites trying to kick it to their homegirls. It didn’t take long for Ms. Rivera to respond back with a bunch of different posts explaining that she’s still riding out for her man, regardless of his dirty-dog ways (SMH.) Rather convenient how this controversy popped up after the two made their debut on Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta. Hmmmm. Mona, is that you stirring up the pot again?! Abuja:Beer Parlour Attendant Stabs Customer Over N20

A beer parlour attendant stabbed on of its customers with bottle in Byazhin area of Kubwa, Abuja over a disagreement which ensued because of N20 balance.

According to report, the victim, a middle aged man had gone drink at the beer parlour on May 14. He ordered a bottle of beer which he negotiated to pay N200 for, instead of N220.

An anonymous source said the victim's request was supported by some other persons who were at the bar.

After he was done with his beer, he gave the attendant N1,000 but but instead of receiving a balance of N800 from him, received N780.

An argument ensued between the customer and the attendant which generated into a fight and in the process, the attendant picked up a bottle, broke it and stabbed the man on the hand.

The victim was quickly rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital for medical attention. 

When contacted, the head, Accident and Emergency unit of the hospital, Paul Olise, confirmed the incident, adding that the victim is undergoing treatment

This is the picture that could cost a pregnant woman in Sudan her life after she was sentenced to death for converting to Christianity to marry her husband.
A Sudanese court has sentenced a 27-year-old woman to death for converting to Christianity, judicial sources said.
Mariam Yahya Ibrahim had been ordered to abandon her newly adopted Christian faith and return to Islam. She had also been charged with adultery for marrying a Christian man.
Judge Abbas al Khalifa asked Ibrahim whether she would return to Islam. After she said “I am a Christian,” the death sentence was handed down, the judicial sources said.

A government spokesman said the ruling could be appealed in a higher court.

Outside the court, around 50 people held up signs that read “Freedom of Religion”, while some Islamists celebrated the ruling, chanting “God is Greatest”.
Students have mounted a series of protests near Khartoum University in recent weeks asking for more freedoms and better social and economic conditions.
Western embassies and Sudanese activists have condemned what they said were human rights abuses and called on the Islamist-led government to respect freedom of faith.

TRAGIC: Bring Back Our Girls Campaign Claims First Casualty

A woman, Hajiya Maimuna Danja, has been reported to have died on her way to Katsina to pray for the release of the abducted schoolgirls in Chibok.
The tragic death of the woman makes it the first recorded death since the Bring Back Our Girls campaign began some weeks ago.
According to reports, the deceased, who hailed from Danja in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State, died in a car crash on Danja-Katsina road.
It was gathered that the late Hajiya Maimuna was travelling from her village to attend a special prayer session for the release of the girls, organised by the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Shema.
The governor’s wife informed that one other woman who sustained injuries during the accident is still receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The First Lady of Katsina State prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, and also prayed for quick recovery of the injured woman.
Mrs Shema also implored all Nigerians to continue to fast and pray for the safe release of the abducted schoolgirls, and for peace to reign in the country.
The governor’s wife called on parents, particularly mothers, not to discourage their daughters from going to school as a result of the Chibok incident.
She also advised parents at the prayer session to ensure proper upbringing of their children for them to become useful members of the society.

The Chairperson of High Level Women Advocate, an NGO, Hajiya Mariya Abdullahi, who also attended the event, expressed hope that the girls would be released unharmed, saying that "nothing is impossible to God Almighty”.
It could be recalled that hundreds of students of the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on 14 April, 2014.
The leader of the Islamist militant sects, Abubakar Shekau last week said that he would not release the schoolgirls unless for an exchange for his brethren captured by the Nigerian military.
In response to Shekau's demand, the Nigerian Federal Government has said that they are not ready to negotiate with the terrorists even as international community continue to offer assistance to help Nigeria wage war against terrorism and rescue the kidnapped schoolgirls.
Reports say President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to visit the community where the attack took place over a month ago.

"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.
Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.

The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.

Teenage Girl Killed Friend After He Asked Her to Test Bullet Proof Vest She Found

A teenage girl has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after allegedly shooting dead a friend who asked her to test out a bullet proof vest.
Taylor Kelly, 18, is alleged to have shot at 26-year-old Blake Wardell’s flak jacket, but it either went through the lining or missed the jacket altogether and struck him in the heart, killing him.
Police were called to a house in Anderson County, South Carolina, following the shooting.
Friends performed CPR and paramedics were called to the garage of the home but Wardell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Medical tests found no evidence of heavy alcohol or drugs were discovered and bond was set for $10,000, according to Fox Carolina .
It is believed there was a group of around 10 friends at the incident and a coroner’s report ruled that Wardell bled to death.
His parents said on Facebook: ‘You took the truth with you ill never know what happen but when i got there i hope you heard me when i said i lopve [sic] u. i do,’ he wrote.”

Terrible: Drama as gunmen invade Oba’s palace in Ekiti

Armed men reportedly stormed the palace of the Edemo in Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital yesterday.
They were reported to have shot sporadically into the air attacking people on sight.
Sunday, one of his sons, told journalists that he was with his father, Oba Aduloju, when the attack occurred, adding that they had to take refuge at Okesa Police Station.
He said: “We were going for a meeting when we saw over 40 armed men marching towards our place and by the time we were going back home, we heard sporadic gunshots coming from our compound.
“I had to take my father to Okesa Police Station where we slept.”
He alleged that the incident was unconnected with the refusal of his father to trade the family land in Ago Aduloju, Ado-Ikare Road.
According to him, in the early hours of Thursday, the said armed men still came to their house and he and his father sneaked out to report at the police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Eye witnesses narrated how a lot of people were attacked in the vicinity, during which police men around were allegedly not spared while the pandemonium lasted.
