Producer jailed for duping actress N1.7m
A
popular Nollywood film producer, Uchenna Mbunabo, has been dragged
before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding an actress
of N1.7m. The 28-year-old producer was said to have collected the money
from Maryjane Okoye under the pretext that he would produce a film for
her.
He allegedly collected the sum since January 2012. Mbunabo was however
said to have defaulted after collecting the money from the complainant.

The incident was said to have happened in the Victoria Garden City, Ajah area of Lagos.
The police, after arresting Mbunabo, arraigned him on Wednesday on two counts of fraud and stealing.
The charges read in part, “That you, Uchenna Mbunabo, sometimes in
January, 2012, at Victoria Garden City, Ajah, in the Lagos Magisterial
District, did with intent to defraud, unlawfully obtain the cash sum of
one million seven hundred thousand Naira (N1,700,000) from one Maryjane
Okoye, under the pretence that you will produce her movie, a
presentation you knew to be false.”
The prosecutor, Supol A. Orji, said the offences contravened and were
punishable under Sections 312(1), 285(5) (a) of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The magistrate, Mrs S.K Matepo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till October 7.
Nigerian jailed in US for $11m fraud
A Nigerian, Emmanuel Ehkator, has been sentenced by a District Court Judge, Middle District of Pennsylvania in the United States to three years in prison for $11m fraud.
Ehkator, who was also investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for criminal conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, was ordered by the court to pay $11,092,028 “in restitution” to his victims.
Ehkator’s property in Canada and the “contents of several bank accounts” in Nigeria were also declared forfeited by Justice Yvette Kane.
A statement by the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the commission had in August 2010, arrested 42–year-old Ehkator in Nigeria. He was subsequently extradited to the US a year after following his plea of guilt.
The statement said the prosecutor, Assistant US Attorney, Christy H. Fawcett, told the court that Ehkator was part of an “attorney collection scam” in which he would contact US and Canadian law firms by email.
It said Ehkator would claim to be individuals or businesses outside North America owed money by entities in the US and asked for legal representation to collect money.
The prosecutor had said, “Often, the prospective clients said the money owed came from a real estate transaction, tort claim, or divorce settlement. Once the law firm agreed to represent the out-of-country client, the law firm would be contacted by the US entity purportedly owing money with an offer to pay the client by cheque.
“The debtor company would advise the law firm to deposit the cheque in the law firm’s trust account, retain the law firm’s fee, and wire the remaining funds to accounts in Asia.”
It was learnt that after funds from the law firm’s trust account had been wired to the Asian bank, it would then be discovered that the cheque that had been mailed to the law firm was a counterfeit.
The counterfeit cheques, which appeared to be drawn on legitimate accounts from well-established financial institutions, often included a telephone number for the financial institution.
In an attempt to determine the validity of the cheque, lawyers would call the number only to reach another conspirator who would falsely verify the cheque.
Ehkator’s co-defendant, Yvette Mathurin, was said to have been charged for conspiracy and was awaiting extradition from Canada. Another co-conspirator, Kingsley Osagie, was arrested as he arrived in the Atlanta, Georgia area from Nigeria and was said to be currently awaiting trial in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The United States Postal Inspection Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Secret Service, the Toronto Police Services and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were said to be involved in the investigations into the wire fraud.
Ehkator’s involvement in the scheme was said to have made him responsible for losses of “more than $7m and up to $20m.
EXCLUSIVE NEWS| SCANDAL: Dayo Adeneye (D1) In Paternity Scandal [PHOTOS]
Sources allegedly claim that Adeneye was involved in an amorous affair with a lady who's based in the UK. Evidently, his young mistress got pregnant two years ago and now has a baby girl.
National Enquirer reports:
D1 met this Calabar born babe, Susan Ekpe during the 2009 Nottinghill Carnival and the duo has been closely inseparable since then to the extent that D1 found her house in London as second home and was even at his best when Susan came to Nigeria for the first time, learnt he sent his car to pick her at the airport and also spoilt her silly during her stay.
The source who`s close to the lovebirds hinted that the once bubbly Susan is now a sad lady as she now has to nurture and fend, all alone for her almost 2 years old child, a bouncing baby girl who`s D1`s perfect replica.
We were told that, D1 had actually been strict with the use of condom during the constant relationship that lasted almost 4 years until he decided to go it `raw` one fateful evening.
Weeks after, the result came and our dear D1 stood his ground that it must be an abortion, though Susan who`s then in her early 30s tried all she could but unfortunately the baby who`s now named Rebecca refused to be aborted given credence to its Biblical meaning of ~To Bind~, so the baby has forever bind the union.
Rebecca`s mum who works in the UK is sick and tired of everything, according to sources, she`s not asking for too much, not marriage this time but for the broadcaster to take up his responsibility and all this she has tried to pursue in a solemn and subtle way without success.
Dayo Adeneye has currently not confirmed the story.

EXCLUSIVE NEWS| REVEALED: Why Amaechi Was Blocked From Entering Government House
The governor who was on Thursday returning from an inspection tour of projects in the state was barred by gun-totting policemen who barricaded the entrance.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Angela Angela Agabe (DSP), the entrance was blocked as a measure to prevent a breakdown of law and order after a splinter group of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the state opened a secretariat on the same road. All roads leading to Forces Avenue were immediately closed.
The governor’s Chief of Staff, Tony Okocha had earlier led members of a faction of the PDP to open the secretariat at 38, Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt. The ‘secretariat’ was, however, later closed down by the police who were said to be acting on superior orders.
“You can’t do this. Not here. We will not allow it,” ordered the police deputy commissioner, Sam Ogaora, who reportedly led the police team.
“We will go all out to ensure that we maintain law and order in this state. Anybody that takes the law into his hands will be dealt with accordingly. That is exactly what we have done here. We don’t have any secretariat here and anybody who has come here to hoist any flag will be dealt with. Nothing more than that,” he said.
While explaining the closure, the state police PPRO says the governor could have made use of other entrances to the Government House seeing no reason for the ruckus being generated. “The governor has other routes to get to the Government House. So I don’t see how this should be an issue,” Agabe said.
Ghana, Nigeria among World Cup draw seeds
Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia have been seeded for the World Cup Africa zone play-offs draw.
Egypt, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Ethiopia are the unseeded countries for the September 16 Cairo ceremony.
The seedings were decided by the FIFA Africa rankings released Thursday, with the five best-placed nations getting ‘seeded’ status.
Seeded and unseeded sides will be paired, creating five two-leg ties with a separate draw determining which country plays at home first.
Matches are scheduled for October 11-15 and November 15-19 and the five overall winners qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Cape Verde, who won Group B last Saturday, were disqualified for fielding ineligible defender Fernando Varela in an away win over Tunisia.
The 2-0 victory for the island nation was changed to a 3-0 defeat, giving four-time World Cup qualifiers Tunisia top place.
A Congo-Brazzaville appeal against the eligibility of Mali-born Niger striker Mahamane Cisse was rejected by FIFA.
Cisse scored in a 2-2 Group E draw against the Congolese last Saturday — a result that allowed Burkina Faso to snatch top spot.
Burkina Faso and Ethiopia, the shock Group A winners ahead of 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa, are the only contenders never to have reached the finals

Celebrities Behaving Badly: Notjustok.com’s Controversial ’10 Most Gifted Rappers’ List Incites GODWON v Sinzu Twitter Fight
I must confess that when I saw the Notjustok.com ’10 Most Gifted Rappers’ in Nigeria feature, I just rolled my eyes and thought, “Demola what happened?” Unfortunately, (Co-owner) OvieO is taking the heat for this list. I don’t know how you can have “most gifted” rapper list and not have a name like Jesse Jagz as #1, Vector following closely at #2, Sinzu at #3, Phyno at #4 and then the rest.
“Most Gifted,” to me, has nothing to do with being a commercially successful rapper or a rapper with a hugely wide fan base. It is about an innate talent that flows in the bloodstream. The type where it is truly effortless. Jesse Jagz tops that list all day, everyday, and then the ones listed in my book above.
In any event, Notjustok releases this list and apparently I am not the only one who felt there was a problem with the list. The public and artists alike have challenged Nojustok for the list, while a few have chosen to even fight each other on Twitter highways. See the heated exchange with rapper Godwon and Sinzu over the NJO list.

Chaos In Warri As Oba Accepts Christ... Abolishes Rituals & Ancient Cultures
This has led to a serious protest by angry indigenes, in Warri, Delta State who took to the street on Sunday to protest but for the quick intervention of Governor Uduaghan, it would have resulted into total mayhem.
The Olu of Warri, who suddenly turned born again by accepting the teachings of Christ, with a Four Square worship center he built in his Palace, made the announcement on the 4th of September 2013.
In a document titled "The new order of Iwere Kingdom" the Oba stated that, the "Ogiame" title which had been in existence for over 500 years would no longer exist because it is purportedly associated to a river goddess. He now only wants to serve one God.
In the document, The Olu of Warri said, "I also repent from the name and title of “Ogiame” that my ancestors and I have borne, as it connotes our allegiance to Umalokun (goddess of the river) and other deities of the sea, all of which are false gods.
"Today, I renounce our allegiance to Umalokun and other gods of the sea, land and sky. On behalf of the royal bloodline, the throne the people of Iwere land, I publicly enter into a new covenant with God.”
The king also dissociated himself from the old time traditional practices which he described as paganism.
There are indications that the Oba took this laws without consulting with the elders of the land and has been asked to retract his statement or vacate the throne but the Oba has stated that there's no going back on his decision.
About 5000 women have been reported to embark on a protest in Warri today against the Oba's new laws.
Who wins this battle, God or gods? The story, however, continues....

MYSTERY: 25-Year-Old Man Found Inside Locked Tomb In Benin City
Residents of Akenzua Street in Benin City woke up on Monday to find a 25- year old man inside a locked tomb of one Emmanuel Obasogie Obayuwana without any visible signs of break in or entry.
The man, who was dressed in red, wore white hand gloves and tied a red cloth on his forehead.
He was found sitting on the grave and stained clothings were found inside a wooden box with him.
Some spiritualists and pastors who were invited to pray against whatever evils the man brought were afraid of going inside to bring the man out of the tomb after the first son of the deceased, Isaac, brought the keys.
Eyewitnesses said they were afraid of going near the man inside the tomb for fear of possible spiritual attack.
The Nation gathered that was some chiefs from the Oba of Benin Palace later came to take the unknown man away.
Isaac said he has been holding the keys to his father’s tomb for over 11 years.
He said, “The place was locked. I don’t know his mission in my father’s graveside. He was taken to the palace. We don’t know him from anywhere and how he got inside the locked house remains a mystery.”Culled from the Nation
EXCLUSIVE NEWS| REVEALED: Jonathan, Tukur Behind PDP Crisis
He said that President Jonathan had not taken any step towards ensuring peace in the party since the crisis that led to the party’s polarisation began.
Oyinlola, who spoke while addressing members of the PDP loyal to him in all the 30 local government areas of the state during a rally held in Okuku, his hometown, said his travails in the PDP started in 2011 as a result of his loyalty to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He alleged that President Jonathan was aware of his face-off with Tukur and did nothing to resolve it. “Even when the President called both of us to a parley in Abuja, nothing meaningful was achieved. I also tried to advise Tukur as an elder that he is to me, but he turned deaf ears to my advice,” Oyinlola said.
He recalled that the current crisis which polarised the PDP started in 2010 when President Jonathan declared his intention to contest the 2011 presidential election and perceived some serving governors as not being supportive of his ambition.
He said: “President Jonathan called me at about 1.00a.m sometime in 2010 and requested that I should come to see him in Abuja. I honoured him and when I got to him, he told me of his ambition to contest the presidential election and sought for my support.”
“The President later told me that he knew that my hands were tied but I told him immediately that I was not a goat, so no one could tie me.
His belief was that I would give maximum support to General Ibrahim Babangida because of my relationship with him and interestingly Jonathan had 99 out of 100 votes cast by the delegates from Osun State.”
Oyinlola accused the President of taking sides in the process that led to his removal as the national secretary of the party, adding that all peace meetings called by notable leaders of the party to resolve the matter were deadlocked.
He said he had not contravened any provision of the constitution of the party by teaming up with like minds to form a parallel faction, stressing that, “the PDP constitution does not prevent anyone from teaming up with like minds.”
Recalling the genesis of his problem with Tukur, Oyinlola said: “My problem with my former boss, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur started right from my first day in office. He introduced some strange things like creating the office of the Chief of Staff and others. I kicked against this development and he took offence for my action.”
