ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man who made three rescues in two days is being honored by the St. Petersburg Fire Department for his lifesaving actions.
Gus Hertz was fishing near the Gulf of Mexico last week when a man suffered a diabetic episode and drove his vehicle into the water. Hertz and another fisherman pulled the man from the car.
A day later, Hertz was called to action again. A small plane with two people on board crashed into the water near his boat. Hertz dragged the pilot and passenger onto his boat and headed to shore.
Lt. Joel Granata of St. Petersburg Fire Rescue says the city’s mayor and fire chief will honor Hertz during a ceremony Thursday.
Hertz is from Virginia and is spending the summer in the Tampa Bay area.

A man with a 100 pound scrotum declined an offer for free surgery to remove the heavy bulge..
A man who made headlines for his 100-pound scrotum now says he turned down an offer for free surgery to get rid of his bulging problem.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Wesley Warren Jr. declined an opportunity to have the “Dr. Oz Show” pay for the medical expenses associated with the surgery, partially because they wanted exclusive interview rights.
But Warren bristles at the notion that he won’t get surgery because he doesn’t want to lose the fame he’s garnered because of his condition, which is caused by an excess of watery fluid collecting around his testicles.
“Who would want to live like this?” he said. “I just don’t want to die during the operation.”
As the Journal previously reported, Warren’s scrotum prevents him from holding down a job and makes it difficult for him to urinate properly. But the surgery is complicated and it carries the risk, among others, that his penis and testicles could have to be completely removed if surgeons can’t stop the bleeding.
Warren’s Facebook page, created back in 2011 to raise money for surgery, garnered the expected mocking comments, but also words of encouragement.
“Keep praying. God’s going to fix this,” one user wrote.
Keep your head up,” another commented. “You will get the surgery.”
Mom Accused Of Injecting 14-Year-Old Daughter With Heroin Roughly 200 Times
A 38-year-old mother from Beaver Springs, Pa. is accused of getting her daughter hooked on drugs and injecting her with heroin around 200 times, according to legal documents obtained by The Huffington Post.
As originally reported by the Daily Item, Brandi Baumgardner's now 16-year-old daughter told Pennsylvania state police that she started smoking marijuana with her mother when she was 12. By the time she was 14, the unidentified girl had moved on to crack and heroin, according to an affidavit.
The daughter said her mom used to take her to hospitals so she could fake an illness to try to get unspecified prescription drugs, the affidavit said.
On about 200 occasions, the girl said her mom had injected her with heroin when she was too "dope sick" to do it herself, according to the document.
When confronted by police, Baumgardner allegedly admitted that she and her daughter have a drug problem and that she gave the teen drugs. But she said she only injected the girl with heroin twice.
The alleged drug abuse took place between 2007 and 2011. The allegations were reported to police after the girl told counselors at a drug treatment program about her mom's alleged crimes.
Baumgardner is charged with endangering the welfare of children and corruption of a minor.
Hannick is charged with statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of a minor.
It's unclear from the documents if there is any connection between Hannick and Baumgardner or how the girl came to know the 21-year-old.
The girl also told police that she got drugs from 21-year-old Robert Hannick in exchange for sex.

Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis split after 14 years
After months of dogged rumors that they were headed for a breakup, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis confirmed on Tuesday that they’re no longer a couple.
The pair “have amicably separated,” a rep for 49-year-old Depp tells CNN in a statement. “Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children.”
Reports that their 14-year relationship was on the rocks began circulating earlier this year, but Paradis, 39, reportedly brushed off the gossip as false.

EFCC confirms Italian suspect hangs self
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed the death of 52 years old Italian, Mr. Mauro Zanin, a suspected fraudster two days before he was scheduled to appear in court.
EFCC, in a release made available to Vanguard, said Zanin was found motionless in the bathroom of the Commission’s detention facility in Abuja at about 4.50 am on June 19, 2012.
“He had apparently committed suicide using his bedsheet. All effort by the duty officers and a team of EFCC medical personnel led by Dr. Gideon Osi of the Commission’s Medical Unit to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation proved futile. He was subsequently certified dead at about 5.45 am.
“Though all clues point to suicide, the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Station, Maitama for investigation”, the statement said.

The deceased, according to the commission was arrested by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service following a complaint by one Ahamefula Chibuzor Ewuzie that he fraudulently obtained the sum of $111,000 from Gladwaters Nigeria Limited, and transferred to the EFCC on 30th May, 2012 for further investigation.
“The Commission had filed a five count charge against the deceased in court and got a Wednesday, June 20, 2012 as hearing date. He was served the court papers to prepare his defence yesterday, June 18.
“His arrest was officially communicated to the Italian Embassy on 31st May, 2012. The same day, the suspect was granted provisional bail, but he could not get a surety to take him on bail.
“While in detention, Mr. Zanin was visited on May 30, 2012, by Mr. Nicola Bazzani, First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy; and everyday by his lawyer, Mr.Ugochukwu Onyejiuto.
“ It is important to say that I took this matter pro bono, with the hope that he will pay my fees when he is free. I was spending my money feeding him… to my amazement; he refused to let his family know what was going on. He has a 30 year-old son who is a lawyer in Italy but he was always telling them all was well”, Onyejiuto said.
Zanin took his own life a day to his scheduled arraignment. He was supposed to be arraigned before the Federal High Court (5) in Abuja on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
Dr. Mma Wokocha, the complainant expressed shock at the news of the death of the suspect, wondering how she would recover the huge sum of money obtained from her by the deceased.
However, she absolved the Commission of any blame in the death of the suspect. “Nobody should blame the EFCC. The Commission has done what it has to do, you cannot blame the EFCC…there was total human care for this guy,” she said

Lindsay Lohan may have a personal driver now, but at the time she got into her unfortunate car accident, she wasn't even supposed to be behind the wheel.
According to TMZ, the actress was strictly forbidden from driving while shooting "Liz & Dick," per the insurance policy taken out by the production company behind the film.
Sources say that the insurance company was initially reluctant to provide coverage, considering the risk with having Lindsay involved and all. Remember, she's got into a host of different issues on the road, from DUIs, to accidents, to hitting people with her car. She's something of a calamity behind the wheel.
So the insurance company set certain conditions— among them, that Lindsay was not to drive— but they weren't enforced by the movie's producers, who knew she was violating the policy but let her drive anyway.
Although it hasn't happened yet, there is a slight chance the insurance company will cancel the policy.
Bobby Brown ties the knot in ‘beautiful ceremony’
Bobby Brown knocked out two birds with one recent trip to Honolulu.
According to People magazine, the R&B singer performed with New Edition less than 24 hours prior to walking down the aisle to marry his fiancee/manager Alicia Etheridge.
Brown’s rep tells CNN that the ceremony was “beautiful.” The groom wore a red suit with Adidas sneakers, the footwear of choice for the newly married couple’s one son together, 3-year-old Cassius, who served as ring-bearer. Brown shared an Instagram photo from the special day, which also included four adorable flower girls.
The couple got engaged in 2010 at a New Edition concert after dating for close to three years.
Brown, 43, was previously (and infamously) married to the late Whitney Houston, who he divorced in 2007. In addition to Cassius, Brown has one daughter, Bobbi Kristina, from his relationship with Houston, as well as three other kids.
Lil Wayne Dismisses Beef With Pusha T
When G.O.O.D. Music's fiery Pusha T sent subliminal shots towards Young Money's Drake on "Exodus 23:1" late last month, the Internet went crazy and all hell broke loose, it seemed. In his partner's defense, YMCMB leader Lil Wayne returned fire with the not-so-threatening "Goulish." We haven't seen much friction between the two camps since.
Now, Weezy is claiming that there is no beef with Pusha T, who he's had conflict with in the past.
"It really wasn’t no beef, you know. It was just me," Weezy told AP. "I just reacted. Just a reaction, a simple reaction. I don’t apologize for it because I’m human. But it was just my human reaction. I don’t take it back. But there’s no beef. Beef is a whole different thing. … I’ll move on."

Rodney King Found Dead at 47 (DETAILS)
Rodney King , the motorist who was videotaped two decades ago by a bystander as Los Angeles police officers severely beat him during an arrest, is dead.
He was found by his fiancee, Cynthia Kelly, at the bottom of a pool in Rialto, California, at about 5:25 a.m. PST, said Capt. Randy DeAnda.
Police attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after 6 a.m. PST, added Capt. DeAnda.
There were no obvious signs of foul play. The police are conducting a drowning investigation.
Kelly told friends that in the hours leading up to her fiancee’s drowning, King had been drinking and smoking pot, says TMZ.
In March 1991, King was infamously kicked and hit 56 times with police batons and tasered. Footage of the beating (video below) and the later acquittal of the officers involved led to the Los Angeles riots.
King, who struggled with alcoholism, appeared in later years both on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Sober House.”
King was 47.
