Gang Related : 3 to stand trial in South L.A. killing of 19-year-old over his red shoes

A judge Friday ordered three men to stand trial for the killing of a 19-year-old who was shot outside a South Los Angeles carwash last summer over the color of his red shoes.
Kanasho Johns, 28; Dwight Kevin Smith, 30; and Kevin Deon Johnson, 25, will be arraigned on murder charges later this month in connection with the shooting death of Tavin Price, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar ordered.

Price was at a carwash in Hyde Park about 11 a.m. on May 29 when he went to a nearby smoke shop to buy a soda and was confronted by two men who asked about his gang affiliation because he was wearing red shoes, authorities said.

5 countries dump more plastic into the oceans than the rest of the world combined

RTXE6CO
The planet’s seas are choking on our junk: soda bottles, plastic bags and tons of cigarette butts. Distant spots in the ocean — called garbage gyres — have become vortexes where humanity’s trash bobs atop the water for miles on end.
Worse yet, the filth floating on the surface accounts for only 5 percent of all the plastic trash dumped into the sea. According toOcean Conservancy, a US environmental nonprofit, the other 95 percent is submerged beneath, where it strangles underwater creatures and wrecks the aquatic ecosystem.
It turns out that five countries are the leading contributors to this crisis. And all are in Asia.

A Syrian native wrote two columns this week describing what day-to-day life has become in Raqqa, Syria — the de facto capital of the terrorist group ISIS.
He wrote of a city where a person's appearance could get him or her arrested if it's not in line with ISIS rules, where people are forced to attend indoctrination classes at mosques, and where residents have become so desensitized to airstrikes that they no longer bat an eye at them.
Many Syrians vowed to stay after the start of the country's civil war in 2011. For the past five years, rebels have been fighting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has been known to commit atrocities against civilians as he tries to hang onto power. Jihadist groups have also moved into Syria to take advantage of the power vacuum that has opened up amid the chaos.
