After a failed attempt to arrest him in Ekiti state last Wednesday, the Department of State Security, has invited controversial Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, for interrogation over his recent comments asking Christians to attack armed herdsmen that try to attack them. He is to appear at the DSS Headquarters in Abuja on Monday January 30th by 10am.

High Court blocks Nigeria oil spill case against Shell

A British court has blocked pollution claims against Anglo-Dutch energy giant Shell by many residents of Nigeria's Niger Delta region demanding action over decades of oil spills there.

Members of the Ogale and Bille communities, who say thousands of lives have been devastated by environmental disasters from the global company, had applied for the case to be heard in Britain, arguing that rampant corruption in their home country prevents them from achieving justice in courts there.

But the High Court in London on Thursday said that it did not have jurisdiction in the case, ruling that it should be settled in Nigeria.

"Our community is disappointed but not discouraged by this judgement," King Emere Godwin Bebe Okpabi, ruler of the Ogale Community, said in a statement.

"This decision has to be appealed, not just for Ogale but for many other people in the Niger Delta who will be shut out if this decision is allowed to stand.

LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert are at odds over the team's spending on payroll, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

James, who on Monday publicly blasted the Cavs' roster for not being deep enough, reportedly believes that the team has slowed "new spending" after winning a championship last year.

According to Windhorst, James' public criticisms "angered" Gilbert, who spent an NBA record $161 million in payroll and luxury tax last season and has spent the most of any NBA team over the past three seasons.

The dispute over the Cavs' payroll is reportedly "straining" James and Gilbert's relationship.

According to Windhorst, when James returned to the Cavaliers in 2014, he spoke to Gilbert about his willingness to spend unconditionally to build a championship contender. Gilbert agreed, and James joined the team.

STANDOFF: Mexico's president cancels meeting with Trump

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Thursday canceled his meeting next week with President Donald Trump after Trump warned he should not visit Washington, DC, if Mexico was "unwilling to pay" for a wall on its shared border with the US.

"This morning we have informed the White House that I will not attend the meeting scheduled for next Tuesday with the @POTUS," Peña Nieto tweeted, according to an online translation.

The cancellation of the meeting came after Trump tweeted that Peña Nieto should not meet with him unless Mexico was willing to finance the massive construction project.

"The U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico," Trump wrote on Twitter. "It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers of jobs and companies lost."

Trump continued: "If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting."

Oil subsidy fraud: Court jails Ontario Oil MD 10 years, orders refund of N754m to FG

Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday sentenced the Managing Director of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Mrs. Ada Ugo-Ngali, to a jail term of 10 years for a fuel subsidy fraud of N754m.

The judge ordered the refund of the N754m to the Federal Government.

Justice Okunnu had on January 13, 2017 convicted Ugo-Ngali, Ontario Oil and Gas Limited and its Chairman, Mr. Walter Wagbatsoma of eight counts pressed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes.

The judge had been unable to pass the sentence on the judgment day as Ugo-Ngali slumped in court after being convicted and just before the judge could pass the sentence.

Trump's executive order on immigration includes a plan to publish a weekly list of crimes committed by 'aliens'

President Donald Trump's sweeping executive order on immigration includes a plan for sanctuary cities to publish a list of crimes committed by "aliens" on a weekly basis.

Under a section on "Sanctuary Jurisdictions," the executive order called for the Department of Homeland Security to put out a "comprehensive list" of crimes committed by "aliens" weekly.

Brazil yellow fever outbreak kills 40

Public health officials in Brazil are working to stop an outbreak of yellow fever that has killed at least 40 people from becoming an epidemic and urged people in nine states on Thursday to seek vaccinations.

The Health Ministry said 70 cases of the fever and 40 deaths have been confirmed in the outbreak, centered in rural areas of the state of Minas Gerais, and another 47 deaths and 368 suspect cases are under investigation.

That is up from just seven cases last year and the highest number since 2003.

The call for people to get inoculated in nine out of Brazil's 26 states caused public health centers to run out of vaccines as residents of those states rushed to get a shot.

The outbreak roughly covers an area of western Minas Gerais that was hit by Brazil's worst environmental disaster last year when a tailings dam collapsed at the Samarco iron ore mine co-owned by BHP Billiton and Vale SA, polluting the Rio Doce river and heavily impacting the local ecosystem.

President Donald Trump said he aims to start construction of the wall along the US border with Mexico within months.

He told ABC News' David Muir in an interview published Wednesday that he wanted construction to begin as soon as possible. When Muir asked whether that meant construction would start within months, Trump said, "I would say in months, yeah.

"Certainly planning is starting immediately," Trump said.

Trump on Wednesday at the Department of Homeland Security signed two executive orders related to immigration and the construction of the wall.

When asked whether American taxpayers would pay for the wall, Trump said that the money would "come out of what's happening with Mexico."

Paying tribute, his sister Kirsty Kenway, 31, from Southampton, told MailOnline that her older brother had a 'brilliant life' in Thailand and his wife, Pans Kenway, 32, was 'devastated' by what had happened.

Mr Kenway's wife gave birth to his fourth child in September.

Ms Kenway said: 'I don't really know what happened to my brother. He's been in Thailand for years and he's been happily married for five years.

President Trump is set to BAN migrants from Syria and six other 'dangerous' Muslim countries from entering America by signing executive orders tomorrow

President Donald Trump is reportedly expected to sign several executive orders on Wednesday banning immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries that are believed to play host to significant elements of Islamist terrorism.

The new Trump directives will reportedly restrict immigration from Syria and six other Middle Eastern or African countries, according to several congressional aides and immigration experts briefed on the matter.

In addition to Syria, Trump's orders are expected to temporarily restrict access to the United States for most refugees. 

Another order will block visas from being issued to Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, said the aides and experts, who asked not to be identified. 

Trump's restrictions on refugees are likely to include a multi-month ban on admissions from all countries until the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security can increase the intensity of the vetting process.

Tycoon’s internet bride ‘set up his hit-and-run murder’, inquest hears

Barry Pring, 47, died in 2008 after celebrating his first wedding anniversary with Ukrainian wife Ganna Ziuzina, 28. 

The businessman was hit by a stolen car in Kiev, Ukraine, while waiting for a taxi near a restaurant. 

Mr Pring married the former stripper after they met on a dating website, but his family claim she was “only interested in his money” and had “some involvement” in his death.

An inquest at Devon County Hall recorded a verdict of unlawful killing. 

Coroner Dr Elizabeth Earland said: “His guard was lowered by inebriation. The car had stolen licence plates and did not brake or stop. 

“I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Barry Pring has been unlawfully killed.” 

The hearing was told “strenuous” attempts had been made to get Ms Ziuzina to attend the inquest, but she had refused saying she could not add anything to police statements she gave in Ukraine.

BREAKING NEWS: Hundreds evacuated as huge fire breaks out at shopping centre

According to initial local reports no one has died in the blaze which has destroyed a large part of the plastic casing around the building.

One Instagram user wrote: “An evacuation was announced, first I didn’t understand what was going on, many people were in panic. I smelled that something was burning only on the ground floor, saw the fire at the exit.”

No cause for the fire has been given, so far.

As well as the shopping centre, which is located in the south-west of Russia’s capital, two cars parked near the building are said to have caught fire.
