Couple fatally shot in Philly while having sex in SUV

A man and woman found in a Philadelphia park fatally shot in an SUV were having sex in the back seat and their killer sought the couple out, police said.
Homicide Capt. James Clark said Monday that Shakoor Arline, 25, and Lisa Smith, 32, were together in the SUV early Friday when someone opened the rear door and fired nine times, shooting both multiple times in the head.

Maintenance workers found their bodies around 2 p.m. Friday near Lemon Hill Mansion, a historic building in the city's Fairmount Park. Clark said the shootings happened between midnight and 5 a.m.
Arline and Smith met at work at a previous job and had been seeing each other on and off for several years, Clark said. Both were also in relationships with other people.

Artist arrested for setting fire to Russian secret service HQ

A performance artist managed to strike at the heart of Russia's security establishment this week. Petr Pavlensky set fire to the doors of Russia’s secret service headquarters (the FSB) and even had time to pose for a photo with a petrol canister before he was arrested on Sunday night. Our Observer says the artist was trying to denounce the FSB's increasing encroachment on Russian society.

The Loubianka is the historic headquarters of the Russian secret service. Once known as the KGB, it was renamed the FSB after the fall of the Soviet Union. According to Pavlensky, the infamous spy service is responsible for depriving Russians of their freedom: "The threat of immediate reprisals hovers over citizens who know that they risk being spied on, having their phone calls recorded, or even being eavesdropped on." The commentary accompanies a video showing Pavlensky's latest exploit, uploaded to a Vimeo account in his name created barely hours before he set fire to the door. The account appears to have been taken offline since then. The artist accuses the Russian secret service of using "unending terror" to "hold power over 146 million people."

France foils terror attack on Toulon naval base

Authorities in France have arrested a man with links to an Islamic State group jihadist in Syria over a plot to attack military personnel at a major naval base, police and judicial sources said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old, whom sources said had been monitored by intelligence agencies after trying unsuccessfully twice last year to travel to Syria, was held late last month and charged on November 2.
The interior ministry said in a statement that the man had been under surveillance “because of his radicalisation and public support for jihadist ideology” and had “attempted to acquire material to carry out a violent attack on Navy personnel in Toulon”.
While he was being monitored, he had a parcel delivered by the post office which was found to contain a combat knife and a mask.

SAN SALVADOR (AFP) -
Wearing a particular brand of sneakers or a certain haircut can be a fatal style decision in Guatemala, El Salvador or Honduras -- three Central American nations struggling with a vicious gang pandemic.
Looks that would be ordinary elsewhere have been appropriated by the criminal gangs as their signs on the streets, where armed turf battles have made these countries some of the deadliest places in the world, outside of actual war zones.
That means the 6.5 million youths aged 15-24 living in the so-called Northern Triangle formed by the three nations have to think twice about everyday apparel lest they be mistaken for enemy targets or usurpers by gang members, or even suspected criminals by the police.

A sexting scandal at a Long Island high school that led to the arrest of two students and the suspension of about 20 others resulted in a showdown between parents and the school principal, who had vowed to arrest students trying to defy their suspensions Tuesday.
At least one of the suspended students attempted to attend class at Kings Park High School on Tuesday morning, but school officials called his father and told him the boy would need to be removed, Newsday reported. The father reluctantly consented and, shortly after 9 a.m., two police officers escorted the boy off the premises.
The suspensions at Kings Park High School and William T. Rogers Middle School arose from a cellphone video that allegedly spread among some students showing a sexual encounter between a 14-year-old Smithtown boy and an underage girl. That boy, along with another 14-year-old male who allegedly filmed the off-campus incident, was arrested and charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child and disseminating indecent material to minors, Newsday reported. The two boys, who are not being identified because they are minors, are set to appear in Family Court at a future date.

Outspoken Canadian Miss World finalist accuses China of meddling as visa application delayed

Miss World Canada, Anastasia Lin: “As a Canadian citizen I shouldn’t be afraid to speak my mind.”

When she won the Miss World Canada crown in May, Anastasia Lin said her outspoken views on China got her father harassed by Chinese officials.
Now the Chinese-born Lin, a follower of Falun Gong, suspects that the People’s Republic is intentionally dawdling on a visa application that could cost her a spot at the upcoming Miss World pageant in Sanya, China.
“As a Canadian citizen I shouldn’t be afraid to speak my mind (and) by rejecting my candidacy, it’s sort of rejecting a whole country’s values,” Lin, 25, told the National Post by phone from Toronto.
While she is still in the running for the pageant, Lin has faced an unusual delay in obtaining a key recommendation letter from Chinese authorities needed to process her visa.
If she does not receive the letter in time for her departure on Nov. 20, it would mark the first time in 58 years Canada has not sent a contestant to what is now the world’s oldest surviving international beauty pageant.

Tamar Braxton Rushed To The Hospital For Pneumonia

Get better soon, Tamar!

So scary.

On Monday, Tamar Braxton was rushed to the emergency room, not long before she's slated to perform on Dancing with the Stars.

Insiders say the 38-year-old has been suffering from pneumonia for a couple weeks now, and the rigorous rehearsals for the reality competition have only made it worse.

So, The Real panelist's husband, Vincent Herbert, drove her to the hospital, where she's currently being treated.

It's not clear as to whether or not the singer will be able to make the DWTS taping. If she doesn't, Tamar will probably get the boot, just like Kim Zolciak did following her mini-stroke.

But right now, the lovely lady's health is much more important than her standing on a television show. We're wishing her a speedy recovery during this scarysituation.

pictures that show why a US aircraft carrier is such a dominant force

The USS Eisenhower was first deployed in 1975 and is not slated for replacement until around 2025.
Aircraft carriers are the heart of the US Navy. The deck of a carrier is literally a few acres of American territory floating around the world, projecting massive air and seagoing military might.
Carriers are expensive, with new Ford-class ships running about $13 billion, but they last about 50 years.
Business Insider visited the USS Eisenhower during a massive mine clearing effort in the Persian Gulf a few years ago.
The Ike, which is currently undergoing repairs, is the second-oldest US carrier still in service. But as you'll see, her age takes nothing from her powerful presence near foreign soil.
This post is originally by Robert Johnson and Jeremy Bender.

The US Navy currently has 10 commissioned carriers, some of which can carry upwards of 90 aircraft. Thousands of men and women serve on aircraft carriers, with 5,000 pilots, sailors, and Marines serving on the Ike at any one time.

Revealed the cause of the mysterious blue light in sky that sparked panic in California

Dazzling: Strange light spotted over California
A mysterious blue light streaking across the sky sparked panic on Saturday with people calling police with fears it was a flare, a comet or even a nuclear weapon.
The UFO flashed in the sky over southern California just after sunset and police and newspapers were inundated with calls from concerned members of the public.
Videos and photos were quickly posted online as people debated what it was on social media.
The light was reportedly seen as far away as Nevada - home of Area 51 - and Arizona.
However, it was later revealed to be an unarmed Trident missile fired from a Navy submarine, the USS Kentucky, off the coast.
