Again, police arrest Audu Maikori, Chocolate City boss

The police have again arrested Audu Maikori, CEO of Chocolate City Entertainment, his lawyer said Friday.

The development came exactly three weeks after Mr. Maikori was first arrested in Lagos and detained for 24 hours in Abuja on allegations of posting “inciting” materials on the Internet.

Mark Jacobs, the label executive’s attorney, said his client was arrested on Friday morning and transported to Kaduna.

“I am aware that the police in Abuja are taking Audu to Kaduna,” Mr. Jacobs told PREMIUM TIMES Friday afternoon.

The police in Abuja and Kaduna did not immediately respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ requests for comments on the situation Friday afternoon.

Mr. Maikori’s latest ordeal comes exactly a week after Governor Nasir El-Rufai pledged to ensure his thorough prosecution for allegedly circulating inflammatory materials capable of exacerbating the deadly conflict in Southern Kaduna.

“What he posted may have led to killings and we are trying to link the dates of the posting to attacks that may have happened the next day on Fulanis and if we are able to establish that causation, as lawyers, we know what it means,” Mr. El-Rufai said in Lagos March 4. “It is totally irresponsible to do that.”

Durban police search for baby abducted in South Africa 'car-jacking'

Police in the South African city of Durban are searching for a baby girl who was in a vehicle when it was stolen in an apparent car-jacking on Friday.

The mother was with her one-month-old baby and an eight-year old when she was approached by two suspects.

The individuals then hijacked her car and drove off with the baby still inside, officials say.

The car, a white Toyota Yaris, has since been found, but the baby is still missing.

Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said that a search operation, involving officers and a dog unit, would continue until the girl was found.

"Our priority is to find this baby," Mr Zwane said.

'Harry Potter' actor, Jim Tavaré survives terrible car crash

Hollywood actor, Jim Tavaré best known for playing Tom the Innkeeper in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", is currently in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) after suffering a broken neck and punctured lung in a nasty car accident.
The 54-year-old actor and comedian also broke 15 ribs and has fractures in his right leg and breastbone according to his wife, Laura who shared hospital photos.

'He jumped out of the train and started to strike at people with an AXE': Horror in Dusseldorf as attacker injures seven before he is caught by anti-terror police

Seven people including two police officers were injured when a man wielding an axe went on a rampage at a train station in Dusseldorf.

The suspected culprit has been arrested and German anti-terror police confirmed no other suspects were still at large.

Reports claim that the man ran towards a nearby underground station and jumped from a bridge as he attempted to flee. 

However, he was arrested after seriously injuring himself in his unsuccessful escape attempt and is now being treated in hospital.

Pictures from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, the city's main station, showed one of the victims lying helplessly on the floor as paramedics rushed to their aid.

His victims included three men, a woman and a 13-year-old girl, with the teenager suffering lacerations to her upper arm. Three were seriously injured.

South Korean president forced from office as court upholds impeachment

South Korean President Park Geun-Hye was fired by the country's top court on Friday, as it upheld her impeachment by parliament over a wide-ranging corruption scandal.

The unanimous decision brought to a climax months of political turmoil that brought millions of people onto the streets in weekly protests, and triggers a new presidential election to be held within 60 days.

That will offer South Korea a chance to draw a line under the scandal, which has occupied its attention for months, even as North Korea has unleashed new missile launches and threats that have raised international alarm.

Park, the country's first female president, also becomes its first leader to be removed by impeachment. She is obliged to leave the Blue House and loses her executive immunity from prosecution.

Her actions "seriously impaired the spirit of representative democracy and the rule of law," constitutional court chief justice Lee Jung-Mi said. "President Park Geun-Hye... has been dismissed."

Rival groups of supporters and opponents watched as the verdict was read out live on television.
Anti-Park demonstrators erupted with joy when the verdict was read out, cheering and hugging each other, some shedding tears. "We won, we won," they chanted.

New York cop shoots himself dead over failed relationship with fellow cop girlfriend

A Brooklyn cop, Officer Mike Smith shot himself dead after his relationship with his girlfriend and fellow cop hit the rocks. The 47yr old divorcee who was just few weeks away from retirement committed suicide on Tuesday night at the Manhattan Beach apartment he shared with his girlfriend, also a divorcee. Smith reportedly started dating his new girlfriend after separating from his wife, but it appears things weren't going so well for the new couple.

The girlfriend brought her parents to the apartment to pack up her things and move out and while they were engaged in doing so, he shot himself dead in another room.

He reportedly left behind a note reading: 'I love you more than you will ever know.'

Smith was a community affairs officer for the 70th Precinct in Brooklyn and had served for 22 years. He was set to retire on March 25.

According to next door neighbour Andrey Savykin, Smith was a 'nice, quiet' guy who seemed 'depressed'.

The Marine Corps' nude photo-sharing scandal is even worse than first realized

The scandal that prompted an investigation into hundreds of Marines who allegedly shared naked photographs of their colleagues in a private Facebook group is much larger than has been previously reported, 

The practice of sharing such photos goes beyond the Marine Corps and beyond one Facebook group. Hundreds of nude photos of female service members from every military branch have been posted to an image-sharing message board that dates back to at least May 2016. A source informed Business Insider of the site's existence on Tuesday.

The site, called AnonIB, has a dedicated board for military personnel that features dozens of threaded conversations of men, many of whom ask for "wins" - naked photographs - of specific female service members, often identifying the women by name or by where they are currently stationed.

The revelation comes on the heels of an explosive story published earlier this week by journalist Thomas Brennan. He reported on a Facebook group called "Marines United," which was home to approximately 30,000 members that were sharing nude photos of colleagues, along with personal information and even encouragement of sexual assault.

The huge money manager said it will vote against boards if a company fails to take steps to increase its female membership. The company plans to send out a letter to 3,500 companies on Tuesday asking the companies to take action.

State Street is a huge player in the index fund world, managing about 90% of its assets in passive funds, which are often investing in companies held in the Russell 3000 and FTSE.

Weight-loss surgery for 500kg woman in India

An Egyptian woman, believed to be the world's heaviest at 500kg (1,102lb), has undergone weight reduction surgery.

A spokesperson at Mumbai's Saifee Hospital said Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, 36, had lost 100kg since arriving in India in January.

"We are trying to get her fit enough to fly back to Egypt as soon as possible," the hospital said in a statement.

Her family said she had not left her house for 25 years until she came to Mumbai on a chartered plane.

China calls on N’Korea to suspend missile, nuclear tests

China has proposed that North Korea suspend its tests of missile and nuclear technology to “defuse a looming crisis”.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that in exchange, the US and South Korea could halt annual joint military drills, which consistently infuriate the North.

The appeal comes after North Korea test-launched four missiles on Monday, breaking international sanctions.

In response, the US began rolling out a missile defence system in South Korea.

Speaking on the sidelines of China’s annual parliamentary meeting, Wang said the Korean peninsula was like “two accelerating trains, coming toward each other with neither side willing to give way”.

“Are the two sides really ready for a head-on collision?” he asked.

A mutual halt of military operations would be the first step towards easing tensions and reopening negotiations, he said.

Dandara dos Santos begged for her life as she was dragged from her home and dumped in a wheelbarrow before being rolled to a back alley and shot dead amid cheers and laughter.

French teen jailed for machete attack on Jewish teacher

A teenager who attacked a Jewish teacher in France with a machete was sentenced to seven years in jail on Thursday by a French juvenile court, judicial sources said.

The 17-year-old was convicted at a closed-doors trial for slightly wounding the teacher who was wearing a traditional Jewish skullcap, or yarmulke, while walking to school in January 2016 in the southern city of Marseille.

Prosecutor Brice Robin said shortly after the attack that the teenager, who has not been identified because of his age, said he had acted in the name of the Islamic State militant group.

New NOAA satellite imaging allows unprecedented tracking of lightning strikes

A new lightning tracker that is hovering above the Western hemisphere in geostationary orbit has sent back its first images of lightning storms, NASA announced today.

The new instrument on a weather satellite called GOES-16 will give forecasters an unprecedented view of lightning strikes, and will allow them to give better warnings to the public when a storm is strengthening, scientists said.

The images released today show lightning flashes over the course of an hour on Feb. 14 around the Gulf of Mexico and in South America.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which runs the satellite that NASA parked 22,300 miles above Earth in December 2016, also released a video today showing ghostly lightning strikes along the southeast coast of Texas captured on Feb. 14.
