David and Sharon Edwards
Accused: Sharon Edwards denies murdering husband David at their home in Chorley, Lancs.
A newlywed solicitor was stabbed to death by his "violent and "jealous" wife weeks after they returned from getting married in Las Vegas, a court has heard.
Sharon Edwards, 42, who, "perhaps quite liked the idea of being Mrs Edwards, a solicitor's wife", is accused of murdering criminal lawyer David Edwards, 51, at their home in Chorley, Lancashire, after returning from a holiday in Spain.
A jury of eight women and four men sitting at Manchester Crown Court were told that the couple married in Las Vegas on June 28 2015, but less than two months later Mr Edwards, who had previously been a partner in a local firm, was dead.
Blonde Edwards, who was described as "domineering", possessive" and "very jealous", was said to have beaten her husband throughout the course of their brief relationship.
Prosecuting, Anne Whyte QC said: "Less than two months later (after wedding) on August 23, the same year, she, we say, killed him at home with a kitchen knife during a domestic argument."

Drug courier nabbed with 33 pounds of cocaine

A suspected drug courier has been caught at Duesseldorf airport with 15 kilograms (33 pounds) of cocaine in his luggage and German authorities have arrested nine more people in subsequent raids.
Police and prosecutors said the 35-year-old man, from Witten outside Duesseldorf, was arrested Sunday after flying in from the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo via Madrid. The cocaine was found in his suitcase.
The arrest followed an investigation into suspected drug smuggling that was launched in November. Later Sunday, police in Witten and in Bochum raided nine apartments, arresting eight men and a woman.
Authorities accuse the group of importing around 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of cocaine in total to Germany, valued at 3.5 million euros ($3.9 million), as well as a smaller quantity of marijuana.

Air fresheners and scented candles 'are to blame for pollution in the home that KILLS 40,000 a year'

Air freshener, file picture

Lives are being put at risk from air pollution inside homes caused by everything from boiler fumes to air fresheners and scented candles, it has been claimed.
The warning comes from a joint study by the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health to be published this week.
The danger of pollution in the street from car fumes is well understood, but many people are ignorant of the risks from air inside the home.

Potential dangers: Research in York found raised levels of a Volatile Organic Compound called limonene, which is used heavily in air fresheners (left) and scented candles (right), to give a lemon citrus smell
The drive to cut energy bills by insulating properties - keeping out drafts and installing windows that do not open - is playing a part in trapping a potentially toxic cloud of air.
The report, Every Breath We Take, warns that at least 40,000 deaths a year in the UK can be linked to the effect of air pollution outside and inside the home.
According to the report ‘indoor air pollution may have caused or contributed to 99,000 deaths annually in Europe’.

Hacker's guide to safety online: 'Entire banking system is fundamentally flawed - you're giving access to your cash'

Mustafa Al-Bassam, arriving at Southwark Crown Court aged 18 accused of hacking websites for major organisations, including the CIA

Mustafa Al-Bassam was a 16-year-old schoolboy when he was arrested for his role in cybercrimes committed by LulzSec, a gang of hackers.
In 2011, it targeted the websites of the CIA in the US, the Serious Organised Crime Agency in the UK, Fox and Sony.
The group’s actions caused serious financial damage. But it also shone a light in some dark corners of world politics and exposed the virtual weaknesses of big organisations.
Last autumn, a play at the Royal Court Theatre in London called Teh Internet Is Serious Business told their story.
Mustafa – from South London and previously known online as tFlow – was handed a 20-month suspended sentence at the age of 18, shortly before taking his A-levels, and ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid community work.
He is now 20 and studying computer science at King’s College London.
After he gave a hacking demonstration at a recent conference on financial crime, The Mail on Sunday tracked him down so he could give his inside – and sometimes alarming – view of online security and provide advice on how we can protect our identity and finances.
Q. How did you gain your skills on the internet at such a young age?
A. I spent a lot of time on my computer as a child and taught myself how to program when I was about nine, using freely available online resources.
This might seem extraordinary, but it is a common story. Many people learn to program as a child, and it is going to become more common now that the UK is pushing for programming to be taught in secondary and primary schools.

Q. In your past life working on the other side of the law, did you consider yourself a ‘black hat’ hacker, someone whose prime intent was to breach internet security? And would you describe yourself now as a white hat wearer?
A. I think the white hat versus black hat label is an unhelpful oversimplification of an activity that covers the entire range of human motivation. The ethics of hacking are not black or white, but more 256 shades of grey, just like any other activity in life.

The accused gunman who police say killed six people and wounded two others during a rampage in Michigan on Saturday night is a married father of two who was working as an Uber driver, USA Today reported.
Jason Dalton, 45, passed a background check when he was hired by Uber, the company told the paper. Dalton had no criminal record and only five traffic violations, police said.
A Michigan prosecutor said authorities were investigating a Facebook post that indicated Dalton picked up Uber customers around the time of the shootings. Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says he was aware of the post, but was not prepared to discuss it.
Dalton lived just outside Kalamazoo, where the shootings occurred, in a ranch-style house with his wife of at least 15 years and two children, ages 10 and 15, according to USA Today.

Myth 1: Belly Fat Protects Your Bones
Recent studies have show that it’s also detrimental to your bones. Scientists used to think overweight people (especially men) had stronger skeletons and were protected against bone loss as they aged.
Latest research suggests that visceral fat—the type that surrounds the organs and accumulates around the midsection—is actually associated with lower bone-mineral density in adults of both genders and this is detrimental to the bones.

HOW NIGERIAN STUDENTS & YOUTH CORPERS DISCOUNT CARD SAVED MY FUTURE @NSYCDC

My dear young folks in the tertiary institutions in Nigeria. I write you out of care and concern. Because I truly do. In 2002 I was involved in an effort that ensured that sitting for "almighty JAMB" won't give you and your parents nightmare as it used to be. I was involved in putting together a JAMB endorsed Publication that had worked out answers of questions over 21 years in 12 subjects and with a CD ROM attached . With that effort a lot of young people went on to pass JAMB without fear and recourse to "miracle centers " we had people who earned their scores . It's been 12 years after many have gone on to become engineers , lawyers , medical doctors etc and the mails chronicling their testimonies remain my eternal joy. A candle lighting another does not extinguish the light or reduce the glow of the other.

Tragic: John Myers (left) pictured with his sons Michael (right) and tragic Ryan Myers (centre), who took his life after building up thousands in gambling debts
The father of a man who hanged himself after building up thousands in gambling debts is calling for a change to fixed-odds betting terminals.
John Myers said he believed his son Ryan committed suicide because he felt he had “lost control” after losing thousands of pounds in May 2014.
The 27-year-old carpenter from Huyton had a serious gambling addiction, and had taken out a payday loan and even asked several websites to ban him to curb his spending.
On the day he killed himself alone he had blown £500 on a fixed-odds machine (FOBT) – electronic gaming machines that players can use to bet on the outcomes of various simulated games and events like roulette and horse races.
John said Ryan was engaged and had been laughing and joking as usual on a family holiday in Turkey just a few days earlier.

The simple mistake you're making every day when washing your face that is DESTROYING your skin

Cleansing your face morning and night is the most basic part of any skincare routine.
But if you're completing this task while in the shower - you're not doing your appearance any favours.
While many of us would assume that tilting our face upwards beneath refreshing running water is the key to getting squeaky clean skin, the heat and pressure of the water is in fact causing damage, skincare expert Kaye Scott told Daily Mail Australia.
What to do instead: Instead, you should rinse your face at the sink cupping your hands with tepid water
