The 2nd-largest diamond ever found was just recovered from a mine in Africa

A small Canadian diamond company has announced the discovery of the world's second-biggest gem-quality diamond ever recovered.

Lucara Diamond Corp. said the 1,111-carat stone was found at its Karowe mine in north-centralBotswana.

The Type IIa diamond measures 65 millimetres by 56mm by 40mm.

The biggest gem-quality diamond ever found is the Cullinan diamond, a 3,106-carat stone found in the Premier mine in South Africa in 1905.

It was cut into several polished gems, the two largest of which are part of Britain's crown jewels.

Paris attacks mastermind (Abdelhamid Abaaoud ) killed in siege French police confirm

The mastermind behind the Paris terror attacks is dead after his body was found "riddled with bullets" in the apartment at the centre of yesterday's armed siege.

Abdelhamid Abaaoud was identified by forensics efforts after yesterdays six-hour stand-off between terror suspects and police on the St Denis area of Paris.

The 28-year-old Belgian extremist was shot dead by a police sniper.

The Paris prosecutor Francois Molins revealed his body was found inside the apartment "riddled with bullets".

He was first hit by the sniper bullet then blown up by several grenades.

Terror suspects in the flat fired 5000 rounds during the operation during which Abaaoud's cousin Hasna Ait Boulahcen, 26, blew herself up.Mr Molins confirmed: "Abdel Hamid Abaaoud has just been formally identified, after comparing fingerprints, as having been killed during the raid.

The full horror of a planned terrorist attack on a football stadium in Hanover have been revealed in secret security documents.

The city's HDI Arena was dramatically evacuated just two hours before an international football match between Germany and Holland.

German newspaper Bild claims to have obtained secret documents passed between security services which triggered the terror alert.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior was handed a memo warning multiple explosions were planned inside the stadium after kick-off.

France launches massive airstrikes on ISIS in Syria

France responded with fury to the terror attacks on Paris, unleashing a series of airstrikes that destroyed an ISIS command post and a training camp in Syria on Sunday, officials said.

The “massive” operation pounded sites in and around the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, and involved 12 aircraft — including 10 fighter jets — launched simultaneously from bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, a French official said.

The air fleet dropped 20 bombs in total. One target was used as a “command post, jihadist recruitment center and arms and munitions depot,” the French Defense Ministry said in a statement.

A second target “held a terrorist training camp,” it said.

ISIS insisted it suffered no casualties and said the 20 targets were “abandoned sites,”the Guardian reported.

Meanwhile, an international manhunt was under way for a suspected eighth attacker, who escaped the three hours of carnage that killed 129 people at six sites in and around Paris on Friday.

In what’s been called "the biggest upset" in Ultimate Fighting Championship history, Rousey was knocked out by 34-year-old Holly Holm in the second round of their title bout in Melbourne on Sunday.

Holm, a former world champion boxer from New Mexico, delivered a powerful kick to Rousey’s head 59 seconds into the second round. The blow sent Rousey toppling to the canvas.

According to the Agence France-Presse, the 28-year-old California native, who had been undefeated through 12 UFC fights prior to Sunday's bout, appeared to be "close to unconsciousness as she hit the deck."

A father who was caught up in the carnage at the Paris theatre with his young son has told how he initially thought gunshots were fireworks forming part of the show.

The first Jihadi suicide bomber named in connection with the Paris terrorist attacksthat left at least 129 people dead has been named as Omar Ismail Mostefai, who was identified by his finger.

The digit was found among the carnage of the Bataclan concert hall, where the 29-year-old was one of three men who blew himself up killing 89 men, women and children

Born on 21 November 1985, in the Paris suburb of Courcouronnes, Mostefai’s criminal record shows eight convictions for petty crimes between 2004 and 2010.

Although he had never spent any time in jail, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said Mostefai had been picked out as a high-priority target for radicalisation in 2010.

But before Friday, Mostefai had ‘never been implicated in an investigation or a terrorist association”.

Investigators are now investigating claims that he went to Syria last year, and may have spent time with IS terrorists.

One of the Paris attackers entered into Europe as a Syrian migrant via Greece

One of the bombers who carried out the Paris terrorist attacks entered Europe as a Syrian migrant, according to foreign officials.

French authorities matched the remains of one of the suicide bombers from the Friday attacks to a Syrian passport that was used to apply for asylum in Europe, says Greek minister for citizen protection Nikos Toskas.

He said in a press statement, as cited by AFP: 

"We confirm that the (Syrian) passport holder came through the Greek island of Leros on October 3, where he was registered under EU rules."

A group of seven attackers who broke off into teams of three carried out bombings and shooting attacks across Paris on Friday evening, killing 129 people and injuring more than 300, the Paris prosecutor said Saturday. The terrorist group ISIS (also known as the Islamic State) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
