THOMAS JONES a dash of flash

A true head turner. A big beast. Custom paint. Gleaming 24-inch Asanti wheels. Everyone gawks as Thomas Jones glides by in his Ferrari-red 2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom. Inside, it’s like a mobile living room, with cushy, white leather seats, screens in the headrests, telephones, and legroom enough for a power forward to stretch out. All that’s missing are the snacks. But even though the car has drop-down trays, nobody, nobody eats in Jones’s Rolls.
He eases into his driveway, where there awaits a small fleet of stunning automobiles, pretty much one for every occasion: a 2004 BMW 645i Coupe, a 2005 Bentley Continental GT Coupe, a 2004 Ferrari 360 Spider F1, and a 2004 Range Rover HSE. Jones isn’t much interested in the mechanical workings of his collection, nor does he hunger for speed. No, he sees his cars more as art objects—and like paintings, much of it is about color.
Last year, Jones had his Ferrari Spider painted the same orange as the trim on the Bears’ uniforms, which caused quite a stir during Super Bowl week. The silver Bentley, the least flashy of the bunch, is his regular driver.

“You can use that car for anything: go out on the town, go to the grocery store,” he says. “But it’ll sneak up on you. It rides so smooth. You can be going 115 and not even know it.”
