Lagos State Police Command has announced that it would soon charge its runaway police corporal, Emmanuel Okuju to court.
Speaking to journalists, the command's spokesperson, Joseph Jaiyeoba, said the officer and his lover, Patience Isabor would not be spared.
Okuju turned himself in on Monday, three months after he was declared wanted by the police for the kidnapping of Patience and attempted murder of her sister, Blessing.
Following his arrest, Okuju and Patience however, denied the kidnapping allegation, saying that she willingly ran away with him after his gun accidentally discharged and hit her sister.
“Blessing was hurt but we were scared, so that was how I ran away with him because of my pregnancy. Since he decided to come to report himself to the police, I came along with him so we can resolve this matter with my family,” she said.
However, Jaiyeoba said the command was not pleased with Okuju, who would soon be charged to court for the attempted murder of 23-year-old Blessing, while Patience would be charged for conspiracy to commit murder.
“The incident is quite unfortunate because it’s a policeman that is the accused and much is expected from him. During interrogation, he said the incident was the handiwork of the devil but investigations are ongoing," he said.
After the alleged kidnap of 17-year-old Patience and attempted murder of Blessing, on February 10, 2012, Okuju went into hiding.
Okuju and Patience are still in police custody at the state headquarters, Ikeja, undergoing interrogation.
