On Monday, 1 September, the Edo State Police Command, paraded a 25-year-old man who reportedly killed his father after the pair got into a squabble over a cigarette stick he stole from his father.
The suspect, Best Momodu, who is from Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, confessed to murdering his father after he stole a stick of cigarette from him.
Momodu said he unknowingly picked a knife and stabbed him as the squabble ensued.
He said, “I stole his cigarette and he found out. So he started shouting at me and quarrelling. So, mistakenly I took a knife and stabbed him. I have not seen the dead body but I heard he died. But the community people arrested me after I killed him.”
Meanwhile, 63 suspected armed robbers, child defilers and murderers were paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Folunso Adebanjo, who advised residents of the state to be watchful, especially at the airports, crowded places, uncompleted buildings and to monitor their environments.
He also expressed concern over the increasing number of cases of child defilers in the state, while also urging parents to be watchful, saying the activities of child defilers are not only worrisome but wicked.
He said, “this is the beginning of the ember months, these are times criminals will want to reap where they did not sow. I want to thank the people of the state for their corporation and I urge for continued partnership between the police and the public.”
“If you observe anything around, report to the police, monitor all uncompleted buildings because that is where criminals hide,” he added.
