It was supposed to be a romantic setting for their big day, but newly weds Becky and Toby Eyre were in for a surprise when their photoshoot ended up in the middle of a police chase.

The couple were posing for photographs after their nuptials when they were forced to hide behind a tree as police chased a suspected drug deal as they posed for photos.

As they watched on, the suspect ran past them with officers in hot pursuit before diving into the freezing lake behind them at Hinksey Park in Oxford.
As patrols car raced past them, officers shouted "congratulations" out of the window.

Mr Eyre, 35, told the Oxford Mail: “A wedding day is special anyway – but to have something like this happen was an unexpected and funny story to add to it.”
Their photographer Annie Crossman said when the drama was over the officers returned and posed for pictures with them.

“Somebody came up to us and told us we may want to get off the main path because police were chasing a man," she said.

“We hid behind a tree and then saw them come running along, the man first followed by police.

“About four or five minutes after that two police cars came past and officers were shouting ‘congratulations’ out the window as they went by.
“When they had him they came back for some posed photos which was really sweet.”

The incident happened following their wedding at St Aldate’s Church.

Mrs Crossman added: "I thought it was annoying at first but then I thought, no, it’s actually quite funny. The couple loved it once we saw there was no danger."

Police later arrested a 43-year-old man from South Hinksey and a 36-year-old man from Oxford on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs in connection with the incident.

Both have been released under investigation.
