Dark spots, age spots, acne -- all of these imperfections can get to you. Looking at your reflection, you may wish you could simply get rid of the uneven tones.
Fair skin can't be gotten overnight, but with a little bit of patience and some TLC, you may be able to lighten some of the blemishes and get the tones you desire. Try the 7 home remedies for fair skin below and see what a difference they can make.
1. Vitamin C. WebMD says to use vitamin C. "'Look for high levels of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate in the ingredients of a brightening treatment,' says Renée Rouleau, a Dallas-based aesthetician who treats hyperpigmentation."
2. Lightening cream. Another way to lighten your skin is with over-the-counter creams containing soy, niacinamide, ellagic acid, arbutin, and licorice. WebMD says that this is slower than prescription creams, but they still seem to work.
3. Shade. Staying in the shade is one of the best ways to help lighten sunspots. WebMD says that even on cloudy days, keeping to the shade will help as dark spots are caused by increased melanin in the skin.
4. Sunscreen. Besides sticking to the shade, Cosmopolitan says to put on a lot of sunscreen. Using an SPF 30 is the minimum requirement.
5. Target brightener. According to Cosmopolitan, Chanel Le Blanc Targeted Brightening Spot Corrector TXC is a specific over-the-counter brightener that has helped lighten pigmentation.
6. Glycolic peel. One to two times a week you can use a glycolic acid peel to help the brightening cream soak in better so you'll see better results according to Cosmopolitan.
7. Don't pick. Picking at sores, whether from acne or anything else, can cause scars and dark spots on the skin. Cosmopolitan says to leave these alone.
Perfection can't be had overnight, but with some patience and self-discipline you can help lighten the dark spots. Remember, "Good things come to those who wait."
