9 deaths and rare cancer associated with breast implants has been reported in the US

The US Food and Drug Administration confirms that Nine deaths have been reported stemming from a rare cancer that is associated with breast implants. The extremely rare cancer, called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) affects cells in the immune system and can be found around the breast implant. It can be found in the skin or lymph nodes, and is not a type of breast cancer.

The FDA says "all of the information to date suggests that women with breast implants have a very low but increased risk of developing ALCL compared to women who do not have breast implants". Yesterday, the FDA issued an update on its understanding of breast implant-associated ALCL cases. The agency has received 359 reports of possible breast implant-associated cancer cases as of February 1.

But the exact number of cases "remains difficult to determine due to significant limitations in world-wide reporting and lack of global implant sales data,". Breast implants is the top cosmetic surgery performed in the US with 290,467 procedures in 2016.

Brussels plans to mark the anniversary of 2016 terror attacks with a 'minute of noise'

Outside the Maalbeek metro station in Brussels last year where 16 of the 32 victims in the attacks died
Belgium this week marks the first anniversary of the Brussels airport and metro bombings with ceremonies showing the heart of Europe is still beating despite the country's worst ever attacks.
Applause is set to ring out during a "minute of noise" on Wednesday as trains, trams and buses halt to remember the 32 people killed and more than 320 injured in the attacks claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group.
Belgium remains on high alert with troops patrolling the streets a year after the blasts, carried out by a network that investigators say was also behind the November 2015 Paris attacks.
"Our country is safer now," Interior Minister Jan Jambon told AFP in an interview, while warning that there was still a threat that battle-hardened jihadists fleeing the Islamic State's last stand in Syria could come home to Belgium.
The ceremonies start at Zaventem Airport where King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will lead victims, family members and rescuers in a service of remembrance for the 16 people killed there by suicide bombers Ibrahim El Bakraoui and Najim Laachraoui at 7:58 am on March 22, 2016.

Men get the bedroom blues too: Study finds both genders can suffer 'post-coital dysphoria' for hours after having sex

Men can have post-coital dysphoria as well as women. Many go into a deep depression and feel achy and irritable for hours after sex (file photo)

They have a reputation for nodding off afterwards – and now it seems making love can make some men depressed, too.
In fact, they can become so sad and emotional that they suffer ‘post-coital dysphoria’ (PCD), according to a report.
Until now it was assumed only women suffer PCD, with nearly half reporting feelings of sadness, anxiety and tearfulness at some point.
But in recent years doctors have heard complaints from male patients that they can go into deep depression and feel achy and irritable for hours after sex.
The report’s author, Professor Robert Schweitzer, of Queensland University of Technology in Australia, has studied data from both genders, and says PCD is ‘not uncommon’ in men.
He said: ‘There are a wide range of responses in the period of time immediately following sexual activity, known as the “resolution phase”.

“If you know yo’ mama in the building, cause my mama in the building, can I get a ‘Mama!’?” Quavo commands, taking his place on the hardwood alongside Offset and Takeoff as they launch into their third song in a post-game performance.
Atlanta’s Hawks have just suffered a 12-point loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, but no one really seems to notice.
The spotlight, both literally and figuratively, is settled on a certain trio from the North (read: Nawf) side right now.
“I said if you love your mama like the Migos love they mama, cause my mama in the building,” he cries out once more. “Can I get a ‘Mama!’?”
Faithfully, the crowd surrounding them responds with a healthy ‘Mama!’, and I’m sure you know what comes next.
Migos are hometown heroes. I simply won’t debate it.
Currently navigating a wave that’s been eight years in the making, molding themselves into a household name is a feat that’s been a long time coming for the trio.
It’s no secret where Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff call home. They’d never let you forget it. And, in an amusing encounter, those roots radiated.

George Michael 'knew his days were numbered and wanted to get his affairs in order' claims medic who treated the singer just weeks before his death

George Michael knew his 'days were numbered' and was ready to get his affairs in order, his medic Simeon Niel-Asher claimed

George Michael knew his 'days were numbered' and was ready to get his affairs in order, his medic of 30 years has claimed.
Simeon Niel-Asher treated George, 53, at his Highgate mansion in north London just three weeks before his death.
The osteopath insisted the singer was in 'good spirits' at their last meeting, but seemed to be keen to get 'everything in order'.
'When I last saw him he was in good spirits. We had a really weird conversation, it was interesting and it was strange,' he told The Sunday Mirror.
'Sometimes people know they are going to die and they get everything in order. I wonder if there was a bit of that going on, like he somehow knew.'
Niel-Asher, who was introduced to George by Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp in the 1980s, added that he teased the singer about his weight.
'He kind of reminded me a bit of Elvis before he died, you know? He got really big. I said to George, 'Have you got any peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?' he recalled.

How does broccoli help prevent cancer? Study sheds light

[A bowl of broccoli]
Researchers from Oregon State University (OSU) found that sulforaphane reduced the expression of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in prostate cancer cells, which disrupted the cells' ability to form colonies - a hallmark of metastatic cancer.
Previously believed to be "junk DNA" with no significant function, lncRNAs have increasingly emerged as key players in the development of numerous cancers, including prostate, breast, stomach, and lung cancers.
Studies have suggested that lncRNAs can regulate gene expression - the process by which genes are switched on or off in order to do their jobs. When lncRNAs become dysregulated, it is believed that they can fuel disease development.
Not only does the new study provide further evidence of the role lncRNAs play in cancer, but it supports previous research hailing the anticancer effects of sulforaphane.

Uganda Police Spokesperson, his bodyguard and driver shot dead

Uganda's police spokesperson Andrew Kaweesi, his driver Godfrey Mambewa and his bodyguard Corporal Kenneth Erau were shot dead at about 9am on Friday morning, March 17th, near his home in Kulambiro in Kisaasi.

According to government spokesman, Ofwono Opondo, details of the attack, including the motive, were unclear but said the assailants must have used a 'powerful weapon', given they knew they were attacking armed people.
Eye witnesses say the shooting lasted for more than 10 minutes and more than 50 shots fired. It was gathered that the perpetrators first shot at the Police car from both sides.
Presidential Press Secretary Linda Nabusayi confirmed the incident to the Daily Monitor.
"It is true and it's so sad," Ms Nabusayi said when asked to confirm whether Mr Kaweesi was one of the three police officers killed in the Friday morning shooting.
It is not yet clear how Kaweesi was killed but Inspector-General of Police Kale Kayihura and other senior security officers have rushed to the scene to ascertain what could have happened.
Kaweesi, who also held the position of director human resource, was in August 2016 appointed by IGP Kayihura the special police spokesman as the force attempted to repair its image tainted by a string of brutality case and public relations nightmares.
Mr Kaweesi, whom Gen Kayihura had earlier removed from the Kampala Metropolitan Police command and later from the Directorate of Operations for being “in the media too often”, had been tasked to reclaim the force’s lost public trust.

The US government just declassified 750 nuclear-weapons movies and put a bunch on YouTube

operation teapot met burst

In its quest for Cold War military superiority, the United States detonated more than 1,000 nuclear weapons.
Government researchers blew up many of the bombs on the ground and others in ocean atolls. Yet as threats moved into space and concerns increased about fallout — soil and other material that's sucked into a blast and becomes radioactive — the US exploded 210 of the terrifying devices high in the atmosphere.
Thousands of films of such blasts, made from 1945 through 1962, were analyzed and locked away in high-security vaults. It's likely no one has seen the footage for decades.
But on March 14, after more than 55 years of collecting dust, the US declassified 750 of the high-speed films — and released dozens of the digital scans on YouTube. We first heard about the movies from the writer Sarah Zhang on Twitter.

South Korea’s impeached leader leaves presidential pala

Disgraced South Korean leader Park Geun-hye left the presidential Blue House on Sunday, two days after a court dismissed her over a corruption scandal, facing life as a private citizen and the possibility of jail.

Park struck a defiant tone upon arriving at her private home in the Gangnam district of the capital, Seoul, after leaving the Blue House compound in a motorcade of fast-driving black cars, flanked by police motorbikes.
“I feel sorry that I could not finish the mandate given to me as president,” a spokesman for Park, member of parliament Min Kyung-wook, quoted her as saying.
“It will take time, but I believe the truth will be revealed,” Park said in her first public comments since her dismissal.
She accepted responsibility for the events that culminated in the Constitutional Court on Friday upholding a parliamentary impeachment vote over an influence-peddling scandal that has shaken the political and business elite.
“I take responsibility for the outcome of all this,” Min quoted her as saying.

Again, police arrest Audu Maikori, Chocolate City boss

Audu Maikori [Photo credit:]

The police have again arrested Audu Maikori, CEO of Chocolate City Entertainment, his lawyer said Friday.
The development came exactly three weeks after Mr. Maikori was first arrested in Lagos and detained for 24 hours in Abuja on allegations of posting “inciting” materials on the Internet.
Mark Jacobs, the label executive’s attorney, said his client was arrested on Friday morning and transported to Kaduna.
“I am aware that the police in Abuja are taking Audu to Kaduna,” Mr. Jacobs told PREMIUM TIMES Friday afternoon.
The police in Abuja and Kaduna did not immediately respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ requests for comments on the situation Friday afternoon.
Mr. Maikori’s latest ordeal comes exactly a week after Governor Nasir El-Rufai pledged to ensure his thorough prosecution for allegedly circulating inflammatory materials capable of exacerbating the deadly conflict in Southern Kaduna.
“What he posted may have led to killings and we are trying to link the dates of the posting to attacks that may have happened the next day on Fulanis and if we are able to establish that causation, as lawyers, we know what it means,” Mr. El-Rufai said in Lagos March 4. “It is totally irresponsible to do that.”

South Korean president forced from office as court upholds impeachment

South Korean President Park Geun-Hye was fired by the country's top court on Friday, as it upheld her impeachment by parliament over a wide-ranging corruption scandal.

The unanimous decision brought to a climax months of political turmoil that brought millions of people onto the streets in weekly protests, and triggers a new presidential election to be held within 60 days.

That will offer South Korea a chance to draw a line under the scandal, which has occupied its attention for months, even as North Korea has unleashed new missile launches and threats that have raised international alarm.

Park, the country's first female president, also becomes its first leader to be removed by impeachment. She is obliged to leave the Blue House and loses her executive immunity from prosecution.

Her actions "seriously impaired the spirit of representative democracy and the rule of law," constitutional court chief justice Lee Jung-Mi said. "President Park Geun-Hye... has been dismissed."

Rival groups of supporters and opponents watched as the verdict was read out live on television.
Anti-Park demonstrators erupted with joy when the verdict was read out, cheering and hugging each other, some shedding tears. "We won, we won," they chanted.

The Marine Corps' nude photo-sharing scandal is even worse than first realized

air force
The scandal that prompted an investigation into hundreds of Marines who allegedly shared naked photographs of their colleagues in a private Facebook group is much larger than has been previously reported,
The practice of sharing such photos goes beyond the Marine Corps and beyond one Facebook group. Hundreds of nude photos of female service members from every military branch have been posted to an image-sharing message board that dates back to at least May 2016. A source informed Business Insider of the site's existence on Tuesday.
The site, called AnonIB, has a dedicated board for military personnel that features dozens of threaded conversations of men, many of whom ask for "wins" - naked photographs - of specific female service members, often identifying the women by name or by where they are currently stationed.
The revelation comes on the heels of an explosive story published earlier this week by journalist Thomas Brennan. He reported on a Facebook group called "Marines United," which was home to approximately 30,000 members that were sharing nude photos of colleagues, along with personal information and even encouragement of sexual assault.
