psycho Abuja woman slaps gym instructor twice during outburst at the gym (video)

Kudos to whoever this man is. He was slapped twice by the woman and he didn't attempt to retaliate, just kept his cool. And whoever this woman, have some sense and decorum, you don't go about slapping people because you're angry.

According to the sender of the video, the woman flared up after arriving the gym around 6am to find that there was no light and the generator was not put on. She got mad that they basically wasted her time. She actually slapped the gym instructor twice while pouring water on the gym equipment. Shame on you, lady. That's not how to behave. Federer wins fifth Australian Open title, 18th grand slam

Roger Federer raised his profile in the annals of tennis when he defeated Rafael Nadal 6-4; 3-6; 6-1; 3-6; 6-3 to win his fifth Australian Open and 18th grand slam title. In a battle of the old brigade, the outcome of the encounter could not be predicted, considering that Nadal had an edge of 23/11 record in their preceding career meetings. Nadal held his serve in the first game of the second set and broke Federer to lead 2-0-. In the third game, the Spaniard faced two break points and needed a second advantage point to hold for a 3-0 lead. Serving to register on scoreboard, Federer lost the first three points, gained two but lost the game when he hit a forehand shot over the baseline. Federer reduced the score when he took Nadal’s serve in the fifth game and hung in to win a long rally, and despite a double fault, he won the sixth game. Serving with new balls, Nadal did not drop a point in taking the seventh game. Two games later, Nadal won his service game and the set 6-3.

Report accuses World Bank of subsidising fossil fuel, undermining climate commitments

A new analysis of the World Bank’s $5-billion-dollar policy loans shows lender supporting investment incentives for coal and other fossil fuel projects in Southeast Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East, threatening climate change efforts, indigenous groups and natural resources
World Bank policy loans are creating subsidies for coal, gas and oil projects and undercutting initiatives to build wind, solar and geothermal power infrastructure and protect vulnerable rainforests, including the Amazon, a new report by the Bank Information Centre (BIC) and worldwide partner organisations finds.
The study, which examines seven World Bank policy operations from 2007 to 2016 totaling $5 billion in four countries – Indonesia, Peru, Egypt and Mozambique – reveals that funds intended to boost low-carbon growth are instead supporting investment incentives for projects that put the climate, forests and people at risk. The report sheds light on the Bank’s Development Policy Finance (DPF) opera…

Read what they are tweeting below.

Legal challenges are already being presented to Donald Trump's ban on Muslim asylum-seekers

Lawyers representing two Iraqi refugees have filed legal challenges to President Donald Trump's executive order barring citizens and refugees from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the US. The order took immediate effect on Friday and left refugees stranded or detained in airports across the country. The two Iraqi refugees, who were being held at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, were carrying valid visas and had been granted asylum for their or their families' work for the US government during the American occupation, which made them targets in their home country. The refugees' lawyers "filed a writ of habeas corpus early Saturday in the Eastern District of New York seeking to have their clients released," the New York Times reported on Saturday. "At the same time, they filed a motion for class certification, in an effort to represent all refugees and immigrants who they said were being unlawfully detained at ports of entry."

This is the first time since 1861 that a state (South Carolina) would attempt to exit the US.

One of the people pushing for the recession explained why California wants out of the US;
"California is the most diverse place in the world. And we  want to have more minorities, more immigrants, more international connections"

High Court blocks Nigeria oil spill case against Shell

A British court has blocked pollution claims against Anglo-Dutch energy giant Shell by many residents of Nigeria's Niger Delta region demanding action over decades of oil spills there. Members of the Ogale and Bille communities, who say thousands of lives have been devastated by environmental disasters from the global company, had applied for the case to be heard in Britain, arguing that rampant corruption in their home country prevents them from achieving justice in courts there. But the High Court in London on Thursday said that it did not have jurisdiction in the case, ruling that it should be settled in Nigeria. "Our community is disappointed but not discouraged by this judgement," King Emere Godwin Bebe Okpabi, ruler of the Ogale Community, said in a statement. "This decision has to be appealed, not just for Ogale but for many other people in the Niger Delta who will be shut out if this decision is allowed to stand.

The Case Against El Chapo: What We Know So Far

After decades of evading the authorities with almost mythic agility, New York's Eastern District has finally pinned Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán down in a lower Manhattan jail. Capers called "a 17-count, sweeping indictment," including drug distribution, money laundering and most broadly, "leading a continuing criminal enterprise" – which covers his activity from 1989 to present day. If charged with that alone, he faces a mandatory minimum of life in prison.

LeBron James and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert's relationship is reportedly 'straining' over how much the team is spending

LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert are at odds over the team's spending on payroll, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. James, who on Monday publicly blasted the Cavs' roster for not being deep enough, reportedly believes that the team has slowed "new spending" after winning a championship last year. According to Windhorst, James' public criticisms "angered" Gilbert, who spent an NBA record $161 million in payroll and luxury tax last season and has spent the most of any NBA team over the past three seasons. The dispute over the Cavs' payroll is reportedly "straining" James and Gilbert's relationship. According to Windhorst, when James returned to the Cavaliers in 2014, he spoke to Gilbert about his willingness to spend unconditionally to build a championship contender. Gilbert agreed, and James joined the team.

STANDOFF: Mexico's president cancels meeting with Trump

"This morning we have informed the White House that I will not attend the meeting scheduled for next Tuesday with the @POTUS," Peña Nieto tweeted, according to an online translation. The cancellation of the meeting came after Trump tweeted that Peña Nieto should not meet with him unless Mexico was willing to finance the massive construction project. "The U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico," Trump wrote on Twitter. "It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers of jobs and companies lost." Trump continued: "If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting."

Brazil yellow fever outbreak kills 40

Public health officials in Brazil are working to stop an outbreak of yellow fever that has killed at least 40 people from becoming an epidemic and urged people in nine states on Thursday to seek vaccinations. The Health Ministry said 70 cases of the fever and 40 deaths have been confirmed in the outbreak, centered in rural areas of the state of Minas Gerais, and another 47 deaths and 368 suspect cases are under investigation. That is up from just seven cases last year and the highest number since 2003. The call for people to get inoculated in nine out of Brazil's 26 states caused public health centers to run out of vaccines as residents of those states rushed to get a shot. The outbreak roughly covers an area of western Minas Gerais that was hit by Brazil's worst environmental disaster last year when a tailings dam collapsed at the Samarco iron ore mine co-owned by BHP Billiton and Vale SA, polluting the Rio Doce river and heavily impacting the local ecosystem.

Did Donald Trump inherit a crashing meme economy?

The meme economy is in a serious slump. We might even be approaching a meme recession.   On Reddit, a group of enthusiastic wonks trying to quantify the ups and downs of the meme economy, tracking the fortunes of each new dank meme on a simulated stock market. Like real market analysts, they don't always agree on what to buy—or, in this case, share—but this month, there seems to be consensus, and it doesn't bode well for the Trump administration.  Reddit's meme_economy subreddit, the Verge reported earlier this month, has always been full of speculators discussing which memes are good and dank, and which are dead and need to be retired. But a group of 12 people decided to take that speculation to the next level and try to quantify it in a mock stock market called—what else?—the NASDANQ.
