Ched Evans rape trial recap: Footballer's 'victim' described as "some fat bird" and filmed having sex

Ched Evans returned to the witness stand to continue giving evidence in his rape retrial at Cardiff Crown Court today.

The jury heard that the 27-year-old footballer told police in an interview: “Footballers are rich, they’ve got money, that’s what girls like.”

The prosecution questioned why he hadn't spoken to the alleged victim throughout and he told the court: "It wasn’t really a time for conversation".

Evans' younger half-brother Ryan Roberts, who was stood outside the hotel room window on the night of the alleged incident with a friend, also took to the stand.

The court heard Mr Robert's friend described the woman as "some fat bird" before they filmed the alleged victim and Clayton McDonald in the hotel room.

Evans is on trial for a second time over allegations he attacked the woman at a Premier Inn near Rhyl, North Wales, in May 2011.

He was previously found guilty of rape but this conviction was later quashed by the Court of Appeal.

Speaking in court yesterday, the 13-cap Wales international told the jury he had consensual sex with the woman and that he had been "juvenile" and "childish".

The footballer's retrial at Cardiff Crown Court is expected to last two weeks and is being presided over by Mrs Justice Nicola Davies.

Witness 'went home with complainant "two or three times" after drunken nights out'

The court heard the man, who has known the complainant for a number of years, went home with the woman “two or three times” following a drunken night out.

On one occasion he said that the woman, woke up in the bed next to him the following morning and had no memory of what had happened.

He said: “She asked me if anything had happened the night before......It was like she didn’t know nothing.

“I was surprised because I did not think she was that drunk.

“She seemed capable of making decisions.”

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said the sex between him and the woman was consensual.

And referring to one specific occasion, he said: “She came up to me (in Zu Bar) and said that if I took her home she would show me a good time.

“What did I understand her to mean by that? Sex.

“I laughed at first because I thought she was joking...until the end of the night when she asked me again.”

The witness told the court while the pair had kissed and touched each other when going back to his, they only had full sex the one time.
