With just a few days left until the start of the 2016 Rio Olympics, there have been plenty of stories of athletes being robbed.
This crime, however, might be the most disturbing yet.
Last week, Chinese hurdler Shi Dongpeng arrived in Rio de Janeiro with a cameraman around 10:30 p.m. and headed to their hotel. Then something very strange happened.
According to AIPS, a man appearing to be drunk rushed towards Shi and vomited on him before running out of the hotel.
Shi went to the restroom to clean up while the cameraman ran after the drunk man. Unfortunately they left their bags and camera equipment behind, and another man -- presumably the "drunk" man's accomplice -- swooped in and stole all of the camera equipment.
Hotel surveillance footage confirmed that it was, in fact, an elaborately designed scheme.
Shi and the cameraman went to the police station to report the incident at 2 a.m., but ran into a long line of people also there to report crimes.
Brazil's government has dispatched a force of 85,000 officers and military to patrol the city during the Rio Olympics, which begin on Aug. 5.
