"I spoke to an officer on the scene but she wouldn’t say anything other than they were dealing with a ‘major incident’.
"At first I heard two people had been stabbed, but some are saying the number is five.
"There were reports of someone being attacked by a machete and even a shooting - it’s all unclear just now.
"The whole road’s closed off so you can’t really see anything either.

"I also spoke to two young boys who told me there was a video circulating on Snapchat of two cars on fire on the road."

One witness said: "There was a massive bang. Two vans went up in flames. I’ve never seen anything like it.
"I don’t know what’s been going on but it’s frightening."
Detective Superintendent Stephen Grant said: “Officers are continuing enquiries after three men were left injured in what we understand is a targeted attack in the Cardowan area. These three men are in a stable condition. It would be inappropriate in light of the ongoing investigation to provide further information at this time.
“This was a brazen incident on Frankfield Road, involving a number of vehicles being set alight. A substantial police response followed the initial reports. This has given rise to speculation that the incident may have been connected to terrorism in some form.
"Whilst we are limited in what we can say in respect of the ongoing enquiry, what we can confirm at this time, is that this incident is not related to terrorism.
“Dedicated officers are analysing available CCTV and conducting door to enquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact officers regarding the incident using the 101 number.
“For those living in the community of Cardowan, I can assure you that our officers are doing all they can to trace the persons responsible. A significant police presence will remain in the area as part of our ongoing inquiry. Please approach those officers with any information you may have.”
