He was taken to hospital by paramedics but was pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem examination is being arranged.
Officers believe two men were involved in the robbery and they are speaking to a number of Mr Javeed's traumatised work colleagues, who were also at the warehouse.
West Midlands Police said they believe the robbery was a "targeted attack".
Norman Khan said he saw the aftermath of the shooting.
He wrote on Facebook: "As we got at the scene police sealed off the area, there were few guys standing there, police, loads of paramedic and an asian guy on the floor, face, head covered in blood.
"The paramedics were trying to resuscitate him, his heart stop beating."
Chief Superintendent Andy Parsons said Mr Javeed was found in the street outside the warehouse.
He said: "Officers arrived within minutes and found him critically injured in the streets.
"First aid was administered at the scene and he was taken to hospital where he received further treatment but died.
"A murder investigation was launched and is headed by Force CID. They firmly believe it was a targeted attack aimed at the Mr Javeed’s premises and the purpose was robbery."
He said police were still working to establish if anything was stolen.
