Bodies of a couple with their arms wrapped around each other found at the building toppled by earthquake in Taiwan

Rescue workers who were searching for life at a high-rise apartment complex in southern Taiwan which was toppled by a powerful earthquake on Saturday February 6, were brought to tears when they found bodies of a couple in each others arms.

The dead couple has been identified as Cai Meng and Huang Ruoxin, both college students from Kun Shan University.

According to CCTV, Huang's arms were tightly wrapped around Cai probably in a bid to protect her from falling debris as the roof collapsed.

The man had hugged his girlfriend so tightly that it took enormous efforts for rescuers to separate the two bodies.

Taiwan authorities said the death toll from the collapsed building damaged in the weekend earthquake has risen to 59, with 63 people still missing and presumed trapped under the rubble of the collapsed residential building till Thursday afternoon. Rescuers say the chances of finding more survivors are now slim.
