A suspected road rage killer is being hunted after a student was shot dead after volunteering to be the designated driver for her friends on New Year's Eve.
Sara Mutschlechner, 20, was driving her pals home from a party at around 2am on Friday morning, in Denton, Texas, when a black SUV pulled up alongside her car.
Police say words were exchanged between the five or six men in the SUV and passengers in Mutschlechner's car before someone in the SUV opened fire.
Mutschlechner, a junior at the University of North Texas, was shot and crashed her car, the Daily News reported.
The young woman was placed on life support but sadly died from her injuries later on Friday.
Police are now reviewing CCTV in a bid to catch her killer.
Authorities believed some of the people in the SUV may have attended the same New Year's Eve party as Mutschlechner.
As yet, no suspects have been identified or arrested.
Family and friends held a vigil on Saturday to celebrate Mutschlechner's life.
Her father Clay Mutschlechner told ABC News: "There's so many people that knew her that she touched their lives. She never met a stranger."
Mum Gloria added: "She was friends with everyone."
