A teenager has been charged with murder in relation to the death of PC Dave Phillips in Liverpool in the early hours of Monday.
Merseyside Police confirmed that Clayton Ronald Williams, 18, of Wallasey, Merseyside, is charged with the murder of PC Dave Phillips, an attempted section 18 wounding against PC Birkett, burglary and the aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle.
Another man, Phillip Stuart, 30, of Oxton, is charged with aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and burglary.
They will both appear at Wirral Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
The 34-year-old officer died after he was sent to assist following a burglary at an estate agent in Birkenhead.
Following a police pursuit at about 2.08am, PC Phillips and a colleague attempted to use a "stinger" device to stop a Mitsubishi Challenger L200.
The vehicle mounted a central reservation and headed directly at the officer before speeding off.
The officer was given CPR by colleagues at the scene but died a short time later at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral.
