The good news keeps coming Common’s way. After landing a major role in in the upcoming Keanu Reeves film John Wick 2, Common has inked a two-year deal with HBO. According to Deadline, the deal gives HBO exclusive first-look rights at any projects that Common develops through his Freedom Road Productions. Common’s Freedom Road Productions is a venture with his manager Derek Dudley and head development and production Nicole Dow.This is a particularly interesting move for Common as a Chicago-based drama he is producing recently received a script order from Showtime, HBO’s rival network. If all goes well, Common could potentially have concurrent projects with both of the major premium cable networks.
Of course, this is just small part of what Common has going in his career as his acting profile continues to grow. In addition to his role in John Wick 2, Common has also been cast as the gatekeeper of Oz in NBC’s upcoming live production of The Wiz, the musical retelling of The Wizard of Oz which first ran on Broadway in 1975. Common will also be playing a currently unspecified role in the DC Comics film Suicide Squad and is part of the cast for the third film in the Barbershop series.
