it's an industry where everything happens behind closed doors but one sex worker has revealed what really happens in a legal brothel.
Sarah Greenmore, from Nevada, US, has answered a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread with eye-opening answers about everything from coping with seven clients a night to earning nearly $10,000 (more than £6,000) in 13 days.
Following the announcement that Amnesty International support the decriminalisation of prostitution, Sarah said she hoped that sharing her firsthand experience would help combat 'false information' about the industry.

The sex worker agreed to answer anything and told how she initially got into the business because her previous job in a spa didn't pay very well.
She revealed the most tiring part of her job was being on top 'after leg day' in the gym
The brothel, Moonlite Bunny Ranch, is well-known in the US after appearing on reality television show Cathouse and Sarah spoke about the inquisitive tour groups that often come to visit.
She said on Reddit: 'Having incredibly personal questions like... "When your looks fade and you get old, what are you going to do then?" asked on a daily basis can wear you down.'

Another burning question directed at Sarah was the number of female clients she received.
She wrote: 'Yes indeed. We don't get many as women are much less likely to purchase sexual services or engage in the sex industry as consumers than men, but we do get them.
'They're not always looking for sex, they just want to be intimate or have fun.'
One user asked her if having sex so often and casually had an impact on her relationships.
Explaining that she previously dated a porn star for three years, she wrote: 'It did take a toll on our relationship.
'Eventually we did split, not necessarily due to the nature of our work but the issues surrounding it.
'I'm not interested in dating at all, actually. I'm doing me (and all those who pay).'

However Sarah does have one strict rule and refuses to have sex without a condom.
She wrote: 'My safety, and my clients' safety, takes priority over your orgasm. End of discussion.'
She's had to have firm words with those who try to break this rule, including a college boy who did it when she was not looking.
She says she 'instilled the fear of god into him' and he ended up giving her a $400 (£250) tip as an apology.
Sarah also refuses to allow clients to perform a sex act on her as this can spread sexually transmitted diseases.
Although clients can see this as a challenge and one man even attempted to bribe her with UGG boots.
Her earnings can be astronomical and although she refused to answer her yearly salary, she divulged that she earned $9,700 (£6,200) in just 13 days in July.

Asked how many customers she has on an average day, she answered: 'Sometimes its zero, I think the most I had in a day was seven.'
One woman asked how she copes with getting 'sore' and Sarah recommended a lubricant which helps to renew cells.
She said that many virgins came to the brothel for their first time and revealed how her shortest sexual experience was actually outside of work hours.
She writes: 'Personal life: 20 seconds. Professional: minute and a half.'
Sarah explained that to work at the brothel she must pass a full STD test every week. She also said she had to pay $500 (£300) for licensing - with her other expenses including makeup, lingerie and travel costs.
