A man armed with a metre-long sword stabbed a woman to death in a busy shopping district in China today.
The man, named only as Gao, chased the woman before stabbing her in the chest in front of a Uniqlo clothing store in Sanlitun, a popular shopping and nightlife district in Beijing.
The attacker's rampage began at around noon local time today on the south end of Sanlitun,3m360 reported.

Pictures being shared on social media show an unnamed male, who police believe is French, attempting to reassure the injured female and stemming the blood from the wound with his hand.
The man is thought to have sustained some injuries while tending to the woman, who was from Shandong Province, east China.
Video footage filmed at the scene shows the attacker, dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, casually pacing around in the middle of the cleared-out square, waving the weapon about in an idle manner.

Meanwhile, onlookers gather around his distressed victim, whose green T-shirt is soaked in blood.
The video also shows the moment the attacker is apprehended by police a short time later.
As police approach him, he places the sword on the ground and lies down on his stomach.

The injured woman and man were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The woman was pronounced dead shortly after.
The attacker, Gao, comes from Tonghua, Jilin Province in northeast China.
As yet, his motivation for the attack is unclear.
The investigation is ongoing.
