'Shawshank' escapee in critical condition after being shot twice by state trooper: Killer was cornered by local veteran who spotted him JOGGING at Canadian border

Prison escapee David Sweat in critical condition after being captured alive
David Sweat, the surviving prisoner on the run in New York, has fallen into a critical condition hours after being shot and captured alive. He was hit twice in the torso when an officer patrolling the area spotted him brazenly jogging down the road wearing head-to-toe camouflage. But despite appearing stable at first, the murderer's condition has rapidly deteriorated since being flown 200 miles to Albany Medical Center's trauma unit. Hours earlier, local residents cheered as the ambulance pulled away from Alice Hyde Medical Center in Constable, bound for a larger medical center in Albany, 200 miles south. 'We got you b*****d,' shouted one woman. Sweat has been on the run for 23 days after breaking free from Clinton Correctional Facility, where he was serving a life sentence for pumping 22 bullets into a sheriff then running him over. His fellow fugitive, double killer Richard Matt, was shot dead on Friday. He was finally apprehended by Sergeant Jay Cook, a 21-year veteran and father-of-two, who recognized him and told him to stop. When Sweat fled, Cook opened fire. Addressing reporters on Sunday night, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said: 'The nightmare is finally over.'
