On Tuesday, ‎officers of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, were at the scene of the incident while police officers from the Pedro police station, cordoned off the area.

The building is one of several dilapidated buildings in police barracks across the country.
In 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan, paid an unscheduled visit to the police college in Ikeja following a Channel Television Station report that exposed the dilapidated state and horrible living condition at the barracks in the college.

The story caused the government to carry out massive renovations of the buildings in the college. However, several other barracks are still in
bad shape.
