Abandoned two-day-old baby boy found in a bush in Ibadan

An abandoned two-day-old baby boy was discovered at the weekend in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The baby was found in the bush at Odebode, Ido Local Government Area.
It was gathered that a passerby heard the baby’s cries in the early hours of Saturday and alerted other members of the community.

A resident, simply identified as Ayodele, said the baby, wrapped in Ankara, was found in a carton in the bush.
He said the baby was slightly deformed in the left hand and leg.
It was learnt that the baby’s body was stained with blood from his umbilical cord.

The Caretaker Chairman of the council, Prof. Joseph Olowofela, confirmed the incident.

Olowofela said: “I received a call on Saturday morning that a two-day-old baby boy was abandoned in the bush at Odebode village, on the Ologuneru- Eleyele Road in Ibadan. I informed the police and went to the scene with some people. When we got there, we found the baby crying in a carton.

“Before we finally got the baby admitted at Oni and Sons Hospital on Ring Road, two private hospitals rejected him because of his condition. But we thank God that the baby is responding to treatment.

“I have bought the drugs needed for his care. The baby boy is now bubbling with life and I have named him Moses Ido, after the council.”

Olowofela advised against dumping of babies. He said unwanted babies should be taken to orphanages for proper upbringing.
