Uganda Police Spokesperson, his bodyguard and driver shot dead

Uganda's police spokesperson Andrew Kaweesi, his driver Godfrey Mambewa and his bodyguard Corporal Kenneth Erau were shot dead at about 9am on Friday morning, March 17th, near his home in Kulambiro in Kisaasi.

According to government spokesman, Ofwono Opondo, details of the attack, including the motive, were unclear but said the assailants must have used a 'powerful weapon', given they knew they were attacking armed people.
Eye witnesses say the shooting lasted for more than 10 minutes and more than 50 shots fired. It was gathered that the perpetrators first shot at the Police car from both sides.
Presidential Press Secretary Linda Nabusayi confirmed the incident to the Daily Monitor.
"It is true and it's so sad," Ms Nabusayi said when asked to confirm whether Mr Kaweesi was one of the three police officers killed in the Friday morning shooting.
It is not yet clear how Kaweesi was killed but Inspector-General of Police Kale Kayihura and other senior security officers have rushed to the scene to ascertain what could have happened.
Kaweesi, who also held the position of director human resource, was in August 2016 appointed by IGP Kayihura the special police spokesman as the force attempted to repair its image tainted by a string of brutality case and public relations nightmares.
Mr Kaweesi, whom Gen Kayihura had earlier removed from the Kampala Metropolitan Police command and later from the Directorate of Operations for being “in the media too often”, had been tasked to reclaim the force’s lost public trust.

The US government just declassified 750 nuclear-weapons movies and put a bunch on YouTube

operation teapot met burst

In its quest for Cold War military superiority, the United States detonated more than 1,000 nuclear weapons.
Government researchers blew up many of the bombs on the ground and others in ocean atolls. Yet as threats moved into space and concerns increased about fallout — soil and other material that's sucked into a blast and becomes radioactive — the US exploded 210 of the terrifying devices high in the atmosphere.
Thousands of films of such blasts, made from 1945 through 1962, were analyzed and locked away in high-security vaults. It's likely no one has seen the footage for decades.
But on March 14, after more than 55 years of collecting dust, the US declassified 750 of the high-speed films — and released dozens of the digital scans on YouTube. We first heard about the movies from the writer Sarah Zhang on Twitter.

South Korea’s impeached leader leaves presidential pala

Disgraced South Korean leader Park Geun-hye left the presidential Blue House on Sunday, two days after a court dismissed her over a corruption scandal, facing life as a private citizen and the possibility of jail.

Park struck a defiant tone upon arriving at her private home in the Gangnam district of the capital, Seoul, after leaving the Blue House compound in a motorcade of fast-driving black cars, flanked by police motorbikes.
“I feel sorry that I could not finish the mandate given to me as president,” a spokesman for Park, member of parliament Min Kyung-wook, quoted her as saying.
“It will take time, but I believe the truth will be revealed,” Park said in her first public comments since her dismissal.
She accepted responsibility for the events that culminated in the Constitutional Court on Friday upholding a parliamentary impeachment vote over an influence-peddling scandal that has shaken the political and business elite.
“I take responsibility for the outcome of all this,” Min quoted her as saying.
