Heartbreaking images were posted online by Mesa de la Unidad Democratica today showing dozens of tiny infants lined up in makeshift cots.

Each is wrapped in a blanket in half a cardboard box with their medical notes sellotaped to the front on a piece of paper.

Charlotte Protest Turns Violent, Governor Declares State of Emergency and Deploys National Guard

A prayer vigil in honor of Keith Lamont Scott turned into a violent protest Wednesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, prompting the governor to declare a state of emergency, as riot gear-wearing police fired tear gas at demonstrators who threw bottles at police, blocked the interstate, threw objects at passing cars, jumped on vehicles, looted, vandalized a Hyatt hotel and attacked its employees.

And one of the protesters was in critical condition and on life support after being shot by another civilian.

"Governor Pat McCrory has declared a State of Emergency upon the request Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney," read a statement from the governor's office. "The governor has also initiated efforts to deploy the North Carolina National Guard and the State Highway Patrol to assist local law enforcement."

Earlier in the evening, Gov. McCrory said, "Upon a very recent request of Chief Putney, the State Highway Patrol is sending in troopers to further help the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department."

Doctor planning world's first head transplant says he is preparing for his 'Frankenstein' surgery by REANIMATING human corpses

A controversial neurosurgeon who wants to carry out the first human head transplant has outlined plans to conduct 'Frankenstein' experiments to reanimate human corpses to test his technique.

Dr Sergio Canavero, director of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, and his collaborators believe they may be able to conduct the first human head transplant next year.

They have outlined plans to test whether it is possible to reconnect the spinal cord of a head to another body with tests that will stimulate the nervous system in fresh human corpses with electrical pulses.

However, the Russian man who has volunteered to have the first transplant has also revealed that his girlfriend is opposed to him having the operation.

The aim of the surgery is to first cut the spinal cord and then repair it before using electrical or magnetic stimulation to 'reanimate' the nerves and even movement in the corpse.

In an article for the Surgical Neurology International, Dr Canavero and his colleague in South Korea and China drew parallels to the infamous story of Frankenstein, where electricity is used to reanimate the fictional monster.

'It also implies that the process of deathly disintegration is not an immediate process. We name this effect the "Frankenstein effect".

It comes as Dr Canavero and his colleagues have announced the results of experiments to show they can reconnect the spinal cord after it was severed in a dog.

A series of research papers published today detail how the animal was able to walk and wag its tail three weeks after being paralysed from the neck down.

Dr Canavero claims the results prove the technique used, known as GEMINI spinal cord fusion, will also work in humans to fuse two ends of a spinal cord together.

This could then be used to connect a transplanted head to a donor body, allowing a paralysed patient regain control of a body.

It’s a story straight out of a horror movie, but it’s been common practice in China for more than a decade.

State-run hospitals have secretly harvested body parts from tens of thousands of prisoners, removing their vital organs while they are still alive.

Filmmaker Leon Lee has been following the researchers trying to bring down this inhumane and illegal industry. He says what they found was a form of evil we have not yet seen on this planet.

“An armed police officer on duty at his college operating theatre witnessed the organ harvesting of a 30-year-old female without anaesthetic,” he told news.com.au. “In the days before, they tortured her, raped her, did all sorts of things to her. The scale of it is beyond imagination.

“A lot of the operations happen in miltary hospitals where it’s easy to control, in labour camps, prisons or vans. They take the heart, liver, cornea, lungs, skin, kidneys ... Mostly they take all the organs.”

Lee believes there have been more than 65,000 victims, at a conservative estimate. His shocking documentary, which aired last night on Dateline at 9.30pm, traces the investigation into the abhorrent industry by human rights lawyer David Matas and former Canadian member of parliament David Kilgour.

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwole, has accused some of his subjects who are occupying political offices of diverting funds meant for the development of his kingdom. He also accused them of buying big and expensive cars for themselves as well as sleeping with other peoples wives.

Liu Zhijun, China's ex-railway minister, sentenced to death for corruption

A Beijing court has sentenced China's former minister of railways Liu Zhijun to death, with a two-year reprieve, for bribery and abuse of power, China's state media reported on Monday, ending one of the country's highest-profile corruption cases in years.

Liu stood trial at Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court on 9 June for accepting £6m in bribes between 1986 and 2011 and using his position to help 11 people win promotions or lucrative contracts, according to the state newswire Xinhua. He had been formally accused in April.

The court also "deprived his political right for life and confiscated all his personal property", the newswire reported. Suspended death sentences in China are usually commuted to life imprisonment. The court's verdict will require Liu to spend at least 10 years in jail.

Police have released video of the fatal shooting of unarmed black man in Oklahoma

Video of police fatally shooting an unarmed black man in Tusla, Oklahoma was released Monday. 

The video, taken from a police dashcam, shows 40-year-old Terence Crutcher walking away from several police officers after a traffic stop with his hands up before police apparently tasered and then fatally shot him with a gun, the Associated Press reported. 

At a news conference on Monday, Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan said Crutcher did not have a weapon during the stop that occurred Friday. 

Local and federal investigators are weighing the possibility of filing criminal charges or civil rights violations over the fatal shooting.

Mum-of-two charged with murder after 'stabbing her boyfriend to death at their flat'

A mum-of-two has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death at their flat.

Elizabeth Hart-Browne, 27, is accused of fatally knifing her 25-year-old partner, Stephen Raynor, at their west London home.

A horrified friend described how Mr Raynor staggered outside the ground-floor flat, barefoot and in his boxers, on Saturday night.

The young man then reportedly collapsed in a pool of blood, as Hart-Browne, a jewellery designer, tried to stem bleeding from his neck.

Michael Schumacher's lawyer has revealed the extent of the racing driver's injuries after his devastating skiing accident three years ago.

Felix Damm was speaking in court in Germany on behalf of the Schumacher family who are suing a magazine over a story that claimed the 47-year-old star could walk again.

Schumacher, who was crowned Formula 1 world champion a total of seven times, suffered a head injury while skiing in the French Alps in 2013.

She wrote two books about her experiences, titled Forever Liesl and Letter to Liesl.

Ms Carr's spokesman Harlan Boll said she died of complications from a rare form of dementia in Los Angeles.

After Carr left the movie business, she started a design company called Charmian Carr Design.

I wish to share a terrible experience I had on Thursday 1 September 2016, along Kaduna-Abuja highway at about 9pm. I had good intelligence on the security situation and considered that it was still ok to move based on that knowledge. I and a family friend were travelling to Abuja and we had left by 6pm. Our car had some problems and we finished fixing it by 8pm. We then proceeded on the trip. We had just passed Redeemed Camp, by Alheri, where we saw 2 white coloured J5 buses. The last mileage I saw was 138 KM to Zuba & I saw the 2 buses along the road parked left and right on the shoulders. I told my friend that this looked like a kidnap spot, that it had all the features like a bend and a slope with the buses. My friend then screamed that they were throwing knockouts at us immediately I finished saying that. I quickly realized that it was gunfire from AK-47. Three men stood in front of the road firing at us. I slammed the brakes, the car veered right and I decided to continue right, off the road. I was able to stop the car before a ditch I saw. I tried to reverse but it didn't engage, the car engine went off and some attempts to restart it failed. Then one of them ran to me, I came out of the car with my hands up, so also my friend. Then, I turned back and started pacing. The guy that came for me looked like a foreigner, from Niger. Then we bolted. They started firing at us. Then someone came from our initial behind and started shooting at us. We managed to cross the road with nothing in sight; No cars etc. We couldn't even see the road divider. Then we both crossed the road. They chased us and kept shooting. That was how we escaped and pinned down in the bush. Immediately we were on the other side of the road we entered the bushes and kept running. During this time, for over 2hrs they came with their car patrolling in search for us. Later the police came, there seemed to been some collaboration amongst them. I lost my Fone and other valuables, but my luggage in the booth was intact as the booth didn't open since it was a 406. It happened like a movie but its real. They weren't herdsmen,They were the kidnappers along that axis. They exist in some  areas up north.
Don't travel when it's dark.
Always watch out well in bends, slopes and hills.
Be careful about any checkpoints, not all checkpoints are real.
The police helped to stop all cars when the operation started with us to enhance smooth operation by the kidnappers.
The kidnappers were operating under the cover of two police checkpoints in about a kilometre apart.
The police tried to take us back to the scene which I refused clearly and instead called on the army.
That was what forced the police to take us to the nearest army post.
Don't travel when it's dark as it increases the risk, but note also that same technique would work even in day time.
Lessons learnt:
If uve to run for ur life take the first chance and don't be afraid of the gun when ur running.
Usually, guns are effective at close range.
Most people including uniformed men are poor shooters especially when it has to do with moving targets; this fact is unknown to many including the uniformed men.
I've seen fire but not this sort of unexpected fire.
If ur car breaks down on the road and ur stranded, do not remain inside it or near it. My advise is for u to cross the road and look for a nearby village. An abandoned car would always attract anyone including criminals. If uve to flee into the bush in a pursuit, run in a diagonal axis to the road.
In a near death experience u don't bother about the things u did, u worry more about the things u didn't do.
The kidnappers were actively collaborating with the police.

On Wednesday, Carla Hayden made history when she was sworn in as the United States’14th librarian of Congress. Unlike her 13 predecessors, all of whom have been white men, she's the first African American and woman to hold such a prestigious position.

Hayden is also the third Librarian of Congress to actually have training as a librarian. She was nominated last year by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate to head the Library of Congress.
