Dozens killed after a ship sinks in Russia

A Russian freezer trawler with an international crew of 132 sank Thursday morning in the Sea of Okhotsk off of the Kamchatka Peninsula and at least 43 crew members were killed, rescue workers said.

The emergency services in Kamchatka, citing the head of the rescue operation, said 63 crew members were rescued and the fate of the remaining 26 from the Dalny Vostok trawler was unknown.

More than 25 fishing boats in the area helped to rescue the crew members, the emergency services said in a statement on their website.

No cause for the sinking was given. The Interfax news agency said drifting ice in the chilly Pacific waters may have played a role.

Besides Russia, Interfax said crew members came from Latvia, Ukraine, Myanmar and Vanuatu

A blogger murdered in Bangladesh

Washiqur Rahman, 27, was an atheist known in Bangladeshi social media circles for writing articles denouncing religious extremism.

“He was a progressive free thinker and was against religious fundamentalism,” Imran Sarker, head of Blogger and Online Activists Network in Bangladesh, told AFP news agency.

Police have arrested two men in connection to the murder so far.

“He was brutally hacked to death this morning with big knives just 500 yards from his home at Dhaka’s Begunbari area,” local police chief Wahidul Islam told AFP.

Last month Avijit Roy, an American atheist blogger from Bangladeshi origin, was also brutally killed.

Bangladesh is a predominantly Muslim country, but its government describes itself as secular.

A guy who ran a revenge porn site has been sentenced to 18 years in prison

A San Diego man who operated a "revenge porn" website and then charged victims to remove nude images and personal information was sentenced Friday to 18 years in state prison, the attorney general's office said.

Kevin Bollaert, 28, was convicted in February of 21 counts of identity theft and six counts of extortion in San Diego Superior Court for running a pair of websites that capitalized on the Internet as a forum for public shaming.

Jilted lovers and hackers could anonymously post nude photos of people without their consent, along with personal information about them, at a website Bollaert created called ugotposted.com. More than 10,000 images, mainly of women, were posted between December 2012 and September 2013.

People who sought to have the explicit images taken down were directed to changemyreputation.com and charged $250 to $350 to remove the racy content.

Victims included teachers, wives and professionals. The compromising photos cost people jobs, damaged relationships and led to one attempted suicide.

Bollaert earned about $900 a month in website ad revenue and collected about $30,000 from victims.

Bollaert's lawyer had claimed at trial that the business was gross and offensive, but he didn't break the law by allowing others to post the explicit material.

Mom gunned down in front of son after laughing at stranger on the road

A California woman and her 12-year-old son were shot at by a complete stranger right in front of a police officer. The woman was killed, and the boy was injured.

According to KTLA, the attack happened around noon on Wednesday when 44-year-old Denise Chiffon Berry, pulled up to a patrolman and said she was being followed by men in a white Cadillac. The officer told her to park in front of him and assured her that he would look into the matter.

As Berry was backing up to park, the white Cadillac pulled up, and Robert Washington jumped out and started shooting into Berry’s car before the officer had even unbuckled his seat belt.

The officer shot and killed Washington, but Berry had already been killed, and her son was injured.

The boy told officers the incident may have started when he and his mother noticed a man with his feet hanging out of the window and laughed.

“This is what the little boy is saying,” sheriff’s homicide Lt. Dave Coleman told the Daily Breeze. “Mommy says, ‘Look at that, isn’t that funny?’ and they made eye contact. She drove on and they began following her.”

“[The shooting] appears to be random or misguided,” Coleman continued. “We’ll have to figure that out. … We know that, at some point, the little boy made eye contact with the suspect. We don’t know if that’s what set him off.”

Coleman called the woman a “tragic innocent,” adding, “The bottom line yesterday is she was driving down the street, minding her own business. (The gunman) got out with a mission. … You almost can’t drive around and make eye contact.”

In the beginning stages of a relationship, you are too busy floating on such an electric, natural high to remember the possibility of a comedown. It’s that giggly, newness — feeling like a cliche, but it’s so good. It’s so right. It seems improbable that anything could ever change, that anything could ever ruin this perfection.

Because that’s what you’ve found: perfection.

Perfection.

The word that will mess you up the first time you think it. When you’re so consumed with the honey moon bliss, intoxicated by every touch, every moment, you forget to read the signs. Because the truth is, we all wave red flags. That doesn’t mean you call it quits, it just means you pay attention. You take note. You understand, or try to.

But when you think it’s perfect? You won’t see it like that. You put on blinders for this new love. This new person. It doesn’t matter how many have come before, or if love has tossed you to the fire in the past.

In the beginning, none of that matters.

This person, you decide, that’s what matters.

But when you date someone who has no idea how to properly be loved? How to receive something so pure, so untainted without fleeing, without running because something like that seems too perfect to be real? You will learn that every fantasy has an ending. When you date someone afraid of being loved, they will, at times, be afraid of you. And this stings. It feels like a slap in the face because you’ve been nothing but wonderful, right? You’ve been kind, supportive, tried so hard to show them what love looks like, what love feels like. You’re trying to remember that beginning bliss. You wonder if there are too many cracks in the ceiling to fix.

But it is not your responsibility to fix. It is not your duty to seduce a person into loving themselves. You can love them. And hell, they might love you back. But when you date someone afraid of being loved, you have to understand fear is just as much a drug as falling in love.

So they will resist. They will hold back. They will push. They will not know why. Or maybe they do. And the grand illusion of perfection is stripped away.

And believe it or not, that’s a good thing.

If it’s meant to be, they will find a way. They will work through it. You will bothwork through it. And one day, love just won’t be so scary.

Racist KKK Corrections Officers Accused Of Plotting Prisoner’s Murder

Two current and one former Florida corrections employees, all members of the Ku Klux Klan, planned to murder a black inmate after his release from prison, the state attorney general said Thursday.

Thomas Jordan Driver, 25, and David Elliot Moran, 47, current DOC employees, and former prison employee 42-year-old Charles Thomas Newcomb, were busted by the FBI for conspiring to kill the black inmate as “retaliation” for a fight between the prisoner and Driver, Attorney General Pam Bondi said.

The trio of would-be killers identify as members of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan – the KKK – according to Bondi.

Driver was hired in July 2010, according to research website Find The Data, while Moran was hired to his post in Jan. 1996. Driver and Moran work at the Department of Corrections Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler, Fla., about 55 miles southwest of Jacksonville, authorities said. Newcomb worked at the same facility, officials said. Driver and Moran will be booked at the Union County Jail, while Newcomb was taken to the Alachua County Jail.

Newcomb is held on $750,000 bond, records show.

All three were arrested Thursday morning. The case will be tried in Columbia County, the prosecutor said.

Triplets Marry on the Same Day, in the Same Ceremony, in the Same Dress

Some siblings spend their lives trying to differentiate themselves from one another, but Brazilian triplets Rafaela, Rochele, and Tagiane Bini aren’t really into being individuals — not even on their wedding day. The identical sisters shared the bridal spotlight, tying the knot together while wearing the same veils, headpieces, and white dresses. Your only shot at telling them apart was through slight alterations in the necklines of their embellished white gowns. Also, each carried distinctive bouquets of flowers in yellow, blue, and red. Even their makeup and hair looked the same.

The 29-year-olds, who are from Passo Fundo, Brazil, walked down the aisle three in a row, condensing their father’s duties of giving away his girls into one ceremony. The altar was specially constructed to accommodate the entire party, including their husbands. Rafaela wed Rafael, Rochele married Gabriel, and Tagiane exchanged vows with Eduardo. Luckily, the men in their lives are unrelated, all standing tall at varying heights with no genetic resemblance in the slightest. 

Because having their sisters didn’t seem to suffice as enough support, each also chose six bridesmaids, wearing dresses in yellow for Rafaela, blue for Rochele and red for Tagiane (matching their flowers), summing up to a total of 18 women in primary colored dresses. Even without the flowers to tell them apart, Eduardo, Tagiane’s partner, wasn’t confused at all. “Oh yes, I knew which one was mine, for sure. I knew as soon as she entered the church, she was the most beautiful,” he said, according to the Daily Mail.

While this might seem strange and out of the ordinary, twins (and other multiples) do share special connections. Certainly extreme, it’s not the first time special occasions have been grouped by family members. Five of eight siblings in an Arizona clan said their “I dos” in a “mega wedding” in 2012.Four Utah siblings did the same last summer. but drew the line at going on a honeymoon together. In the most complex of them all, a set of twins married a set of twins in 1999 in a double wedding, and one couple even had a set of identical twins of their own. In 1987, other twins that married twins even gave birth on the same day. 

Triplets might seem like a lot, but just imagine when the Gosselin kids get older what their wedding will be like — because you know they’ll have a joint televised ceremony. Can’t wait for 2025. 

Ijaw council urges youths to avoid violence

The President of the umbrella body of all Ijaw youths in the country, the Ijaw Youth Council,  Mr. Udengs Eradiri,  has called on all Ijaw youths across the country to avoid all acts of violence, destructions and protests as a fall of last Saturday’s Presidential election, won by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.

 

Eradiri also congratulated Buhari on his electoral victory and said that Ijaw youths would key into his administration just the same way youths from other ethnic nationalities from other parts of the country supported the Jonathan Administration.

 

 The IYC President warned that any Ijaw youth who got involved in protests, destructions and other acts of violence would be seen to be doing so at his or her risk.

 

He said that the IYC would accept the leadership of Buhari as the South South region had its own chance but could not wield the high possibilities of the position to its advantage in the election.

 

He advised the youth populace in the region to resist being manipulated politically.

 

He said, “First of all, I want to commend President Goodluck Jonathan for conducting the freest and fairest election that Nigeria has ever had and Africa would take example from him.

 

“I want to use this opportunity to congratulate Gen, Buhari who has emerged winner of the Presidential elections.

 

“And so, as IYC, when we had our own as President, the Igbos, the Yorubas, the Hausas were loyal to him, we will be loyal to the President-elect, Gen. Buhari, who from May 29, would become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

 

“We will accept it (the results of the election); we had our own knife and yam, we were not able to cut it the way we wanted. We have no other person to blame, it is in this part of the country people were asking for money to go and vote and yet northerners were paying their transport, Mai ruwa people were paying their own transport to go and exercise their rights, to go and pick their PVCs.

 

“Our people were expecting to be paid to collect PVCs and the results reflected and so we have no other choice, we are the architects of our problem, so we should be able to live with it.

 

“If you go and protest, you are on your own, if you go and destroy anything, you are on your own. I, as the leader of youths in this region, we had reached out to other ethnic nationalities to canvass support. Maybe, we started late, maybe the attention was not given that should have started with the political class.

 

“History has already recorded it. So the best we can do is to key into his administration just as the Yoruba keyed into this administration; Hausas keyed into this administration, it is time for us to also to also key into the administration of another leader. So I call on our people to steer clear of all those political manipulations.”

 

He commended the President for conducting the election that is reputed to be the freest and fairest in the history of the country.

 

He said that Nigerians would remember the legacies of President Goodluck Jonathan in the next few months especially in the area of power, agriculture, maritime education and other projects executed under the transformation agenda of the government.

 

He also warned the youths against attacking oil installations in the region stressing that the immediate communities would be the ones to bear the brunt of such actions.

 

Eradiri advised communities to prevent people from carrying out illegal hunkering, oil theft and other acts inimical to the economy.
