Sandra Bullock Tops Forbes' List Of Highest Earning Actresses With $51M

On paper, the movie Gravity seemed like a crazy risk. The effects-heavy movie cost upward of $100 million to produce and instead of comic book heroes duking it out, the film featured one woman floating in space for almost the entire 90-minute running time.
Despite the odds, Gravity turned out to be one of the highest-grossing movies of 2013 bringing in $716 million at the global box office. The film was the rare commercial and critical success. Gravity earned 10 Oscar nomination and won seven gold statues.
Gravity star Sandra Bullock didn’t win for Best Actress this year (though she did in 2010 for The Blind Side) but she did walk away with a ton of money. Thanks mostly to Gravity, Bullock tops our 2014 list of the highest-earnings actress with an estimated $51 million in earnings between June 2013 and June 2014.
Despite Bullock’s impressive showing, women are still earning less than men in Hollywood. Our ten top earning actors brought in a combined  $419 million during our  time frame while the top ten actresses brought in just a little over half of that — $226 million.
Hopefully the women on our list can start to change that as female-led blockbusters bring in just as much money as action films starring men.
The fact that The Hunger Games franchise stars a woman hasn’t stopped fans from spending millions of dollars on the movies. Star Jennifer Lawrence earned less than $1 million upfront for the first movie. Now she’s in a position to demand top dollar for future Hunger Games movies as well as a share of the backend. We estimate that Lawrence earned $34 million between June 2013 and June 2014 ranking her second on our earnings list. Lawrence ranked 12th overall on our Celebrity 100 list which measures a mix of earnings and fame.
To come up with our earnings estimates we talked to agents, producers, lawyers and other in-the-know folks to figure out how much each celebrity earned from entertainment-related work during our 12 month time period. We didn’t deduct for taxes, agent fees or the other costs of being a celebrity.
Ranking third on our list is Jennifer Aniston with $31 million. Thanks toFriends and her endorsement work for products like Aveeno, Aniston can be choosy about her film projects. Lately she’s focused on smaller-budgeted comedies like We’re The Millers and Horrible Bosses. Aniston is usually willing to cut her upfront pay for these movies in return for a chunk of the profits. It’s a strategy that’s paying off. Aniston should continue her streak with Horrible Bosses 2 which is scheduled to hit theaters in November.
With an estimated $19 million in earnings, Gwyneth Paltrow ranks fourth on our earnings list. Though she doesn’t come close to earning Robert Downey Jr. money, the star’s work in Iron Man 3 (the top grossing film of 2013) helped land her high on our list. Paltrow also earns big endorsing Max Factor makeup and Hugo Boss.
Last year’s top earning actress, Angelina Jolie, ties for fifth place on our list with Cameron Diaz. Each actresses earned an estimated $18 million last year. In 2013 Jolie earned an estiamted $33 million. She earned less for our latest list because we had credited her with her large upfront payment for Maleficent last year. She’ll earn more next year thanks to her profit participation on the Disney film which has earned more than $700 million at the box office so far. She’s also well positioned for some kind of Oscar love. Unbroken, which Jolie directed, hits theaters this Christmas.

A close military friend of the late Captain Sule told SaharaReporters that Boko Haram gunmen killed the young, newly wed officer in an attack on a military contingent over the weekend.

“Captain Sule was killed in a battle launched by Boko Haram fighters against our troops between Saturday and Sunday,” said his military friend who is based in the Ikom Barracks in Cross River State. The officer, who provided wedding photos of Captain Sule, added that he and other friends of the deceased officer “received the news with utmost shock. He was killed between Saturday and Sunday, but we only got the information today [Monday].”

14-Year-Old Girl Set To Undergo Murder Trial Over Forced Marriage!! [OPINION]

Wasila Tasi’u, 14, is expected to begin trial for murder in northern Nigeria today, for allegedly poisoning a 35-year-old man, Umaru Sani, to whom she was forcibly wed.

The girl confessed to the poisoning of Sani and three others with a rat poison-laced dish that she served during the wedding party in Unguwar Yansoro village outside Kano, just a week after the union took place.

Despite the girl's confession, Kano State police spokesman Musa Magaji Majia told AFP, “She did it because she was forced by her parents to marry a man she did not love.”

Tasi'u's confession is also coming under scruntiny from her legal team. Her attorney, Hussaina Aliyu, who works for the International Federation of Women Lawyers, vehemently denies that the young woman's confession is legally admissible, being that the girl was interrogated without parental or legal supervision.

“She is still a child,” her lawyer pleaded. In light of this, the defense urges officials to transfer the case to a juvenile court, a request previously denied by Kano authorities.

Kano State has operated under sharia Islamic law since June 2000, around the time the defendant was born.

The practice of underage marriage is a frequent point of contention in sharia states, as the complicated hybridity of federal law and Islamic law often make it difficult to enforce and implement legislation. In the past several months, child marriage has been a pressing topic, ignited by legislative pressure to nationally greenlight the practice, which would effectively make girls legal adults once they are married off.

“Do justice to her. Treat the case as it is. Treat her as a child,” Aliyu begged officials.

What do you have to say about this people?? Should the poor girl undergo trial for her action?? Please feel free to share your opinion by leaving a comment below..

Lil' Kim Disses Nicki Minaj On "Flawless (Remix)"

Lil' Kim Disses Nicki Minaj On "Flawless (Remix)"
Lil' Kim insults Nicki Minaj as she drops a verse over the "Flawless (Remix)" cut Beyonce and Nicki recently dropped.
While many fans were excited about Nicki Minaj andBeyonce collaborating on "Flawless (Remix)," Lil' Kim has opted to use the beat for a diss towards her longtime rival, Nicki.
"The queen of rap, slayin' with Queen Bey," is one of the Minaj lines on the "Flawless (Remix)" track. When this line is said, Lil' Kim's additional verse comes into her rendition of the remix.
"Am I trippin' or did this ho just say my name?" Lil' Kim raps, referencing her nickname, Queen Bee. "Queen of Rap? Fuck outta here. The Queen is back. Fuck outta here."
“The problem with her is, she was very catty with it," Kim said. "I never had a problem with her. I was always nice with her. Always. She was a very obnoxious person, but I was very nice with her. From the time I saw her in that dressing room, the story she told, I don’t even know what the heck she was talking about. That’s not even how it happened. But from the moment that I met her, I was always cool with her. But after that, it almost seems like, when they realized, 'OK, we need Kim. We want to study her swag.' That’s what it kind of felt like because I was around for a long time. They were like, 'OK, let’s study her swag,' and I think they wanted to get that record just to stamp that I was OK with what was going on.”

UK's 'Most Wanted' Drug Trafficker Captured In South Africa [PICTURED]

One of the UK's most wanted criminals has been captured in South Africa after an armed raid by authorities in Johannesburg.

Convicted drug trafficker Martin Evans, 52, went on the run from prison in 2011 after being granted a week’s leave on temporary licence six years into his sentence.

Evans, who featured in the Operation Zygos fugitive campaign, was apprehended at a housing complex in the Midrand area.

Investigators from the National Crime Agency alerted Interpol that the fugitive was in South Africa which led to surveillance operations being conducted by the South African Police Service.

Evans was eventually tracked down to the housing complex where officers swooped as he was getting out of his car. He will now appear at Pretoria Regional Court on Monday for a procedural extradition hearing.

He was jailed in 2006 for raft of drugs charges which included leading an organised crime gang supplying cocaine and MDMA between 1999 and 2001.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) said proceeds from the racket were converted into foreign currency and transported to the Netherlands to fund further drug consignments.

Former award-winning businessman Evans, from Swansea, was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for drug running, internet cons and other frauds while living the high-life in Miami and Marbella.

One scam involved swindling 115 investors out of £900,000 over an ostrich farm venture.

The notorious crook had been on the run in Holland and Spain before he was jailed at Erlestoke prison, Wiltshire in 2006.

Evans won the Welsh Young Businessman of the Year title in the 1980s for his double-glazing firm in Neath, but when the business later collapsed he turned to a life of crime.

When he and his wife Esther, the mother of his two children, were first charged Evans skipped bail, faxing Swansea Crown Court to say he would not be turning up and ran off with a mistress to Spain.

It was there he became involved in a drugs conspiracy for which members of his gang were later jailed for more than 50 years.

His wife was given a suspended sentence for the ostrich farm scam because she had to bring up their two children alone.

Evans was eventually caught when he tried to use a false passport under the name of Paul Kelly to enter the US in November 2001.

Heightened security following the September 11 attacks led to him being stopped at JFK Airport.

In April this year the NCA listed Evans, believed to be in Cyprus at the time, on their list of the UK’s most wanted criminals and an international manhunt was launched.

Hank Cole, Head of International Operations at the agency, said: “The exceptional level of collaboration and intelligence sharing with the South African Police Service led to the capture of Evans. “This arrest shows the NCA and its partners will pursue fugitives wherever they are in the world. They can run but they can’t hide. We have the capability to track them down and bring them to justice.”

"I Was Never Afraid For My Life" - Fela Kuti, After Release From Prison In Newly Published Interview

On June 17, 1986, seven weeks after his release from Nigeria's toughest prison, Fela spoke exclusively with me. And, bravely, he remained defiant against the military regime in Nigeria that had imprisoned him.

The release of Alex Gibney's new documentary on the late Nigerian pop star Fela Kuti spurred me to sift through my own personal journalistic archives to find an audiotaped interview I conducted with Fela in 1986.
And here it is, a transcript and audio clip of my mostly unpublished interview with Fela, perhaps the first one-on-one he granted after being released from prison in '86.
Fela KutiOn June 17, 1986, seven weeks after his release from Nigeria's toughest prison, Fela spoke exclusively with me. And, bravely, he remained defiant against the military regime in Nigeria that had imprisoned him.
As is the case with many interviews that I conducted as a writer for music trade weekly Cash Box, the Q&A remained unpublished (except for a few lines published in the June 21, 1986, issue of that magazine).
Kuti is probably best-known today as the inventor of Afropop, a massively influential musical form that mixed jazz, rock, funk and revolutionary politics.
Fela was also famous for having fought against oppression in Nigeria. In the early '80s he was imprisoned by his country's autocratic regime for three years on what appear to have been politically motivated charges.
After he was released from prison in April 1986, he visited New York City, appearing at a Manhattan press conference on June 13, 1986 (my interview was not a part of that conference) before performing for Amnesty International at Giants Stadium in New Jersey on June 15.
Here's an edited version of the conversation I had with Fela on June 17, 1986. (Andhere's a link to audio clips of my conversation with him.)
Paul Iorio: It must be a big change for you to be out of prison now.
Fela Kuti: Yeah, it's a big change for me. It's a good change.
Iorio: Did you write a lot of songs in prison?
Fela: No. I just kept my brain blank. I left my mind blank in prison.
Iorio: You were transferred to Kirikiri. Was that, as they say, Nigeria's toughest prison? And was it tough on you?
Fela: [Kirikiri] is one of the toughest prisons, but it was not tough on me. I lived through it. It was tough on the body. I lived through it....
Iorio: Do you think your spirit is stronger because of this experience?
Fela: Much more stronger.
Iorio:There was a period when you were in the hospital and they transferred you over to Maiduguri prison. At that point nobody heard anything from you for about six weeks. What happened to you?
Fela: They just took me to the prison ... and it was very, very uncomfortable, very far away from everybody. And visitors weren't allowed for me for about five months.
Iorio: Were you afraid for your life?
Fela: No, no, no, I was never afraid for my life.... We just try to face the government....
Iorio: Are you still going to speak out against the Nigerian government? ... You're not going to back down?
Fela: No, I'm not going to back down. I still intend to [protest the government]. I'm not backing down....
Iorio: Would you ever consider getting involved in Nigerian politics ... ?
Fela: Yes, definitely.
Iorio: You mentioned that some of the military people have your records and like your music.
Fela: Oh, yes. Everybody in Nigeria likes my records.
Iorio: Do you think Amnesty International had a lot to do with getting you out of prison?
Fela: Not much. They tried to make people aware of it. But there's not much they could do....
Iorio: While you were in prison, what was the worst thing that happened to you?
Fela: The worst thing that happened to me [while I was in prison] was that my record was produced by somebody else, Bill Laswell. And that really fucked me up in prison.
Iorio: That was "Live in Amsterdam"?
Fela: No, no, "Army Arrangement" ... destroyed me completely, fucked my mind up.... When you're in prison, you can't do anything about what's happening outside.
Iorio: But at the same time, people were being carted out dead every day; there were beatings.
Fela: Oh, yes.
Iorio: But it never happened to you?
Fela: No.
Iorio: Was that because everybody knew who you were?
Fela: Yes, exactly.
Iorio: You were more than disappointed with "Army Arrangement."
Fela: Yes, Bill Laswell's production. I had a production [before I went] to prison. So they abandoned my production and put in a new one.... They knew that [I'd given] instructions that it not be produced by anyone. They knew how I felt about it.
[I was unable to contact Laswell for comment on this claim. Of course, Laswell is welcome to give his side of the story in the comments section here.]
Iorio: How about "Live in Amsterdam"? Do you harbor any bad feeling that EMI released that instead of releasing "Perambulator"?
Fela: EMI did so many bad things. They didn't look out for my interest at all.... They just wanted to rush something out.... "Live in Amsterdam" wasn't a good recording. I only [made] it happen because the system wanted it, because the company complained ... and demanded a live album.
[Any executive from that era of EMI is free to rebut Fela's statements in the comments section.]
Iorio: Is there a Fela record that you consider is your best?
Fela: No, I don't.
Iorio: Do you think that you could live a better life as a musician if you were to leave Nigeria?
Fela: I could never leave my home.... It inspires me a lot.

Police arrest mortician over stolen corpse of SAN in Enugu

Enugu State police command has arrested the mortician in-charge of the Christ Specialist Hospital, Enugu, from where the corpse of Chief Theodore Ezeobi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, was reportedly stolen last Thursday morning.
Some unknown persons were said to have broken into the mortuary and forcefully removed the corpse of the legal practitioner who passed on four months ago.
He hailed from Osikwu village, Awgbu, in Orumba North local government area of Anambra State.
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed to Vanguard that the mortician on duty when the corpse was stolen, was already being interrogated with a view to ascertaining how the corpse disappeared from the morgue.
“It is a true story that the corpse of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Anambra State disappeared from a hospital in Enugu and we are investigating the matter now.
“The mortician on duty that morning is in our custody and he is helping us in our investigations,” he said.
However, Vanguard learnt that the corpse may have been taken somewhere in Anambra State for the burial which was scheduled for last Thursday.
The funeral, which was well advertised was, however, aborted as security operatives were said to have stormed the village in search of those in possession of the controversial corpse.
Sources said the first son to the deceased, Theodore Junior Ezeobi, had placed a newspaper advertorial in which he fixed wake keep and the burial of his late father for last Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
But reports from the village said the wake keep did not hold Wednesday night though several canopies were set for the event at the family compound.
It was gathered that while the son was planning the funeral in line with the earlier announcement, the daughter of the deceased legal luminary, Chinelo Ezeobi, placed a counter announcement, a development that gave the villagers and the deceased lawyer’s friends and associates the impression that the family was in dispute.
The burial posters for the late SAN which was also signed by Theodore Junior for the family, was displayed in some locations within the town, including St. Theresa’s Catholic Church where a burial mass was billed to be held in his honour.

Woman Stabs Son Over $20, Could Spend 60 Years In Prison

momstabssons1
A mother from Milwaukee will be facing charges for allegedly stabbing her son over a $20 dollar bill. It was said to police that the victim accused his family of stealing his money but his mom was not having it! She instantly became very violent and obviously ended up stabbing the boy.
According to Lt. Lisa Kumbier of BDPD “One of the boys just knew he had $20 missing. They started arguing over it. Then the mom came into the picture. She got involved and this verbal argument escalated to a physical confrontation,”
The Luckett family reports that the mother of the boys, no longer in custody of her children, left Milwaukee and came to Arizona a month prior for “visiting” purposes. Now, it is clear to all her why she came around in the first place.
Honestly sometimes mother does not know best. If she gave up custody for her children long ago why is she now coming into their lives at 16 and 18 years old?
She is being charged with four felonies and if convicted for all four, she could spend the next 60 years of her life in prison.

Selena Gomez Disses Justin Bieber: Sings About His Multiple Models

Selena Gomez isn’t going to let Justin Bieber have the last laugh. The singer dissed her ex in song on Aug. 1 after Justin galavanted around Ibiza with racy models!

As Justin Bieber, 20, parties it up and makes out with models while overseas in Ibiza, his ex Selena Gomez, 22, is belting her heart out. Selena posted a video of her on Instagram on Aug. 1 singing a slower rendition of her classic song, “Who Says.” The song is definitely her way of calling out Justin for flaunting his single status all over the internet.

Selena Gomez Disses Justin Bieber & His Multiple Models On Instagram

“I’m no beauty queen, I’m just beautiful me,” Selena belted out in her Instagram video. This is a much softer and more emotional rendition of Selena’s perky song.
“A little throw back during warm ups,” Selena wrote as the caption to her video. The song is a veryspecific choice for the singer. The song is intended to bash her haters, but it sounds like Selena is dissing Justin for making her feel insecure about her beauty as he flaunts around Ibiza with hot models. Check out the video!
Selena’s been showing off a lot of her beauty and booty lately. On July 31, the “Come & Get It” singer stepped out in some very short shorts and rocked more underbutt cleavage than we’ve ever seen from the star. If that’s not revenge dressing at its finest, then we don’t know what is. Justin has been revenge kissing and flirting all over Ibiza over the past few days and Selena’s finally saying something about it.

Justin Bieber Flirts & Kisses Multiple Models In Ibiza — Hurting Selena?

Justin’s trip to Ibiza has been filled with drama, to say the least. He nearly got punched by Orlando Bloom, 37, on July 30!
The “Boyfriend” singer posted a flirty photo of him and the gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model, Shanina Shaik. Then, he was snapped getting hot and heavy with Playboy Playmate Alyssa Arce, 22, on his yacht on July 31.
Justin twisted the knife in Selena’s back even more when he reunited with Kendall Jenner, 18, and they kissed in multiple pics! Selena and Kendall used to be friends before Kendall betrayed Selena by going after Justin.

"I Stabbed Her With A Scissors But Didn't Know She Would Die"- Suspect Who Killed Girlfriend For Turning Down His Proposal

Suspect and late Gift
Suspect and late Gift
As 26 year-old girl, Gift Sunday, left her abode in Ketu , Lagos, to meet her boyfriend, Raphael Effiong, who had invited her over on phone, Monday, July 28, 2014. Never, in her wildest imagination, did she envisage that would be her last day on earth.
Time was 8.30pm, shortly after the Anietie family whom Gift stayed with, had their dinner.
While other members of the family retired early, Gift announced that she was going to meet her boyfriend, who was well known by the family.
But apprehension reportedly set in when she did not return by midnight. Tension, heightened after efforts to reach her on the phone proved abortive as it was discovered to be switched off.

Next day, the family’s fear was confirmed following the visit of a woman later discovered to be a management staff of Mayor Guest house located at 10 Yusuf Eleran street, Ketu. The woman was said to have invited Gift’s sister , Mrs Ume Anietie to Fine Day hospital at Elebiju street, where she was informed that Gift had passed on!

Love gone sour
Gift, as gathered, was stabbed in the arm and breast by her boyfriend, Raphael at the guest house.
A man who claimed to have witnessed it all told Crime Guard that :“I was seeing a friend off, when I heard the shout of help from the hotel. I sensed all was not well and went to the hotel to inform the staff. They told me it was normal to hear lovers shout. But I insisted that the shout was not that of pleasure but of panic and pain. It was at that point that we all rushed to the room and forced the door open. To our disbelief, we saw a lady on the floor with a deep cut in her hand from where blood was gushing out. The man with her was holding a pair of scissors.

Delay
At first ,nobody knew what to do. We told the man to take her to the hospital but he could not carry her because she was big in size. We all carried her outside with blood still gushing out from the deep cut in her hand.
It took about 30 to 40 minutes before she was rushed to Fine Day hospital. Even when she got there, the doctors did not attend to her on time. It was not until the Police at Alapere division called and instructed them to commence treatment on her that they started attending to her and we left”, the eye witness narrated.

Her Last words
Doctors at Fine Day hospital were said to have managed to revive Gift. In an inaudible tone, she was said to have told some of the hospital staff that it was not the first time Raphael would beat her .
According to one of the hospital workers who spoke on condition of anonymity : “ She told us that was not the first time her boyfriend would beat her. She said anytime he sees her with any man, he would beat her, both in the open. She also said that was why she decided  not marry him, so that he would not kill her someday”
At a point, Gift could not reportedly speak, as she complained of weakness. Unfortunately, she could not make it owing to loss of blood. Had blood been transfused into Gift, she would have probably lived to share her ordeal,Crime Guard gathered.

Why I killed her
Raphael as gathered, attempted to escape, on noticing the magnitude of his action. But he was apprehended by staff of the hotel who handed him over to policemen at Alapere, from where he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,SCID, Yaba, Thursday.
At the SCID, Raphael told operatives of the Homicide section that he stabbed Gift because she refused to marry him.
According to the Akwa-Ibom State suspect:“I never knew she would die. I never meant to kill her. I only wanted to threaten her with the scissors. We have been going out for a year and I loved her so much … I proposed to her but she turned down my proposal, saying she couldn’t marry me. I have begged her several times to have a change of mind but she didn’t.
I have invested so much on her with the hope of marrying her some day. But I never knew she was only deceiving me, by playing on my intelligence. I just could not stand her getting married to another person. The mere thought of that sends me crazy”, he said, begging the deceased’s family members to forgive him. But members of the deceased’s family are of the opinion that the act was preconceived, asking why the suspect took a scissors to the guest house in the first place.

The late Gift, as gathered, was a fashion designer. She was said to have been living with her sister since 2005, from where she went to secondary school and thereafter, learnt fashion designing. Until her death, she was said to have sewn wedding gowns for different would -be brides, including those of their bridal trains, with the hope of sewing for herself someday.
She was said to have boasted to close friends that she would make the best for herself when the time came, unaware that she would not live to witness the day. She had reportedly told close friends that her choice of husband was a God-fearing man, little wonder she accepted to go out with Raphael in the first instance , as they met in the church. But along the line, Raphael reportedly left the church, shortly after which he started demonstrating his battering tendency.
The deceased’s elder sister , Mrs Anietie, who is yet to come to terms with Gift’s demise, said amidst tears: “ She was a very hard working lady. She was cheerful and was like a daughter to me. I will forever miss her”.
Spokes person for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide , said the suspect would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
