“I’m in pain, but I’m happy”: Hollywood actor, Jet Li, battling serious health issues

CHINA MAINLAND OUT
Jet Li
Chinese action star and martial arts hero, Jet Li, has said that he is being treated for an overactive thyroid, but he is determined to fight the condition head-on.
The superstar who is known for his kung fu skills,  discussed his diagnosis during the recording of a talent show he is judging in China.
During the recording of the show on Tuesday, the 50-year-old actor appeared to have a fuller face and heavier frame. He said his weight has fluctuated but he is taking it all in stride.
Li, even  joked about his weight gain and said “I’m fat, I don’t have the time to lose it. It’s a fact!”
According to a Daily News report:
He explained that exercise is not advised with the medication he’s taking. An overactive thyroid, or hyperthyroidism, causes changes in a person’s metabolism and heart rate, among other symptoms, but is generally treatable with medications.
Li was diagnosed in 2010. He kept his condition under control with medication, but it came back with a vengeance recently.
He said that he’s tackling his illness head-on. “I’m just a regular guy, I’m not Wong Fei Hung, I’m not Huo Yuan Jia (kung fu heroes he portrays on film), I’m not a hero. I’m just like you.”
A martial arts champion at a young age, Li turned to acting and began showing off his kung fu skills on big screens in the 1980s.
Jet Li (center), pictured in ‘Unleashed,’ can’t exercise while he’s under the treatment.

He catapulted to fame in the ‘90s with the “Once Upon a Time in China” films where he portrayed martial arts master Wong Fei Hung.
His Hollywood career includes such titles as “Lethal Weapon 4,” “Romeo Must Die” and more recently “The Expendables 2.”
Li confessed there are times he’s unsure if he’s able to carry on with work, but he’s determined. “I’m in pain, but I’m not suffering. I’m happy,” he said.

Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole just survived a terrible Accident

Accidents! Accidents! Accidents! Why now, what is going on just in the last few days about 5accidents have been recorded. This time it is Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole survived a motor accident at Ewu Village along the ever-busy Benin-Auchi road in Edo State at about 9.45am Saturday, 28th December 2013 on his way back to Benin City from his Iyamho Village.

The incident occurred at about 9.45am at Ewu, in Edo Central Senatorial District, when a Peugeot J5 Bus filled with tomatoes and plantains apparently lost control and rammed into the Governor's Flag Car from the opposite direction before swerving into a roadside ditch.

Three vehicles in the Governor's convoy were in front of the Governor's Flag Car and had passed the Peugeot J5 Bus before it [J5 Bus] had direct impact with the Governor's car, which had the Governor, his Aide-De-Camp [ADC] and his Driver as occupants.

The Governor's Car was badly affected but both occupants of the Peugeot J5 Bus and that of the Governor's sustained no injuries.

The Peugeot J5 Bus was following a truck that was descending the Ewu Slope when it suddenly veered off into the Governor's lane from the opposite direction and directly impacted on the Governor's vehicle, apparently because of brake failure.

Fortunately, none of the passengers in both vehicles sustained injuries. The Comrade Governor is hale and hearty, his ADC and other occupants of the Peugeot J5 are also in good condition.

The incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Station at Ewu for further investigation. This is to assure all good people of Edo State that there is no cause for alarm.

Their loving Comrade Governor is fine, hale and hearty as well as other occupants of the other affected vehicle. The Comrade Governor is wishing everyone a prosperous new year ahead. Signed

10 Shocking scandals of 2013

Tonto
The year under review was indeed characterized by many scandalous and controversial incidents; from the mundane to the abominable. SHOWBIZPLUS brings you an overview of the messy events and the characters involved.
Tonto drunkenness, half nude, fall on stage
Rivers State-born entertainer, notorious for high-voltage controversies, Tonto Dikeh, became one of the climaxes on stage at the AY Live Comedy and Music Concert which held on Easter Sunday at Eko Hotel and Suites. To the consternation of her teeming fans and fun seekers, Tonto stepped on the expansive stage clad in skimpy white panties that exposed a lot of flesh, thus leaving her almost naked.  She matched this with a wacky sleeveless white shirt, black bow tie and sneakers in sync with her dancers. Caught in the euphoria of the moment, the controversy-loving entertainer carried on unconcerned as she struggled to pull up her straining waist-length panties to cover her lower butt from spilling out of the very tight attire.
That was not all; few months later, she was given an opportunity to perform on stage at the Iyanya concert in London. Obviously drunk, she slipped on stage and fell. It was an awful experience for her as the media went frenzy with her big fall.
Solomon Akiyesi’s multiple wedding scandals
Within the year under review, one of the most bizarre wedding scandals occurred. The print and social media were awash with stories of Nollywood actor, Solomon Akiyesi, whose secret wedding to mistress, Uloma Agwu, was aborted by his legally married wife, Lilian Akiyesi.
The bizarre occurrence which continued to generate ceaseless uproar happened on Saturday, April 13, when Lilian stormed the Overcomers Church World Outreach, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, to halt a wedding service meant to join her husband with his mistress, Uloma Agwu, as husband and wife. Another woman later showed up and also accused the disgraced actor of getting her too engaged in a sham marriage proposal.
Paternity mess: Paul of P Square’s denial of baby mama

Few weeks after welcoming his first new born baby in Atlanta, US, Paul of P Square had another baby delivered for him in a London hospital by a former beauty pageant contestant, Elshama Benson Igbanoi. However, Paul blatantly refused to claim paternal responsibility for the baby boy. His abandonment of baby boy trended heavily on social media.
Sources close to the 19-year-old and former Miss Plateau State disclosed that her family had contacted Paul Okoye's father and aunt to persuade the musician to accept responsibility for his baby. Elshama also insisted that she never slept with any other man, adding that she lost her virginity to him when she was 17 years old.

Genevieve bares it all
Perhaps, if she had an inkling of the shame and controversy that would befall her outfit on that fateful night, Nollywood star actress, Genevieve Nnaji would have had a rethink before donning that boobs-exposing gown that became her biggest nightmare at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony that held in Lagos.
The dress revealed a little more than just cleavage. It showed some flesh too. Denrele's question to Genevieve didn't help matter either-he had the guts to ask if she was wearing a bra!
Iyanya and Yvonne Nelson’s war of words
Iyanya’s freestyle in England where he sang thus: “Yvonne Nelson, I lost your medicine. She called that she’s coming over and I ride her like a ‘jangolova.’ All I want is your waist, no emotions, no tears, no letters, no love, no nothing. All I want is your waist, she ain’t even know it. She brought emotions,” was indeed one of the most trended controversial freestyles in 2013.
The once upon a time lovers, Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson and Kukere Master, Iyanya, were at daggers drawn over their love gone sour and traded words over same.
Chidinma’s sex tape scandal
A s*x video went viral within the year which allegedly featured the Kedike singer, Chidinma Ekile. The video was circulated all over the web and trended heavily. However, on a closer look at the video, fans finally came to conclude that the lady in the tape was only a Chidinma look-alike, and not the singer herself.

Mercy Aigbe’s public assault
The heated and funny controversy between movie actress Mercy Aigbe and controversial blogger Stella Dimoko Korkus’ was fierce and also trended heavily. Stella had reported that Aigbe’s enraged hubby, Lanre dragged her out from a club, threw her into his SUV and drove angrily out of the venue whilst shocked onlookers watched! This Aigbe vehemently denied, both in words and video.

Bisi Ibidapo, Dino Melaye’s paternity mess
It is no longer news that  Bisi Ibidapo Obe gave birth to a baby girl sometime last year and insisted the child belonged to the former House of Reps member, Dino Melaye, who shockingly denied being responsible. This was like a season film that lingered and trended more in 2013, with lots of the messy details blown out of proportion.
Maheeda’s nudity
On October, 27, the notorious Maheeda put up some nude photos of herself on her Instagram page ‘for her fans’. In one of the images, which showed an exposed male member, she expressed that the photo was of a fan ‘worshipping at her church on Sunday’. That was not all; she went on and on, uploading her nude pictures which expectedly continued to get the desired media attention.

Real reasons angry Benue youths beat up Terry G

Terry G

More facts are beginning to emerge on the real reasons Nigerian pop singer, Oche Gabriel Amanyi popularly known as Terry G, was allegedly beaten by angry youths last weekend in his home state of Benue State.
The singer who was at the IBB Square, Makurdi for Benue Youth Fiesta, was reportedly attacked while performing on stage.
Eye witnesses revealed that the singer was attacked as he was performing on stage. The angry youths suspected to be hoodlums began to throw sachet water on the musician and later broke bottles and charged towards him.
Though no reason was given for the shameful act, sources have revealed that the self acclaimed “Akpako Master” is not like by the youths in his state.
They have consistently accused him of being stingy and not supporting the fledging careers of emerging acts from his state.

One of the attackers was alleged to have squealed to an insider that they will continue to attack and disgrace Terry G, until he embraces change by helping local acts

LOCKPORT, La. - A nurse embroiled in a custody fight with his ex-wife killed his current wife before shooting his former in-laws and his onetime boss in a rampage that spanned two parishes in Louisiana, leaving three people dead and three wounded. He then fatally shot himself in the head, authorities said.
All three survivors remained hospitalized Friday, two in critical condition, Brennan Matherne, a spokesman for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, said in an email. He said deputies are still investigating the motive.
Preliminary evidence shows that Ben Freeman, 38, first killed his wife, Denise Taylor Freeman, 43, before he went on a rampage and shot the others Thursday, Maj. Malcolm Wolfe, of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, wrote in an email.
Denise Freeman's body was found in a bathroom of their house, and an autopsy showed that she suffocated and drowned, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said Friday.
Ben Freeman then attacked his former in-laws with a shotgun in Lafourche Parish about 45 miles southwest of New Orleans, wounding parish Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux (pronounced "go") and Gouaux's daughter Andrea, Matherne said. Louis Gouaux was shot in the neck, while Andrea Gouaux suffered spinal damage, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Both were in critical, but stable, condition after surgery Friday in New Orleans, Matherne said. Gouaux's wife, Susan, was dead when deputies arrived, he said.
About 20 minutes after the first shootings, Freeman arrived at the home of Milton Bourgeois, CEO of Ochsner (OX-ner) St. Anne General Hospital in nearby Raceland, about 8 miles from Lockport. Bourgeois was shot and killed at close range; his wife, Ann, was shot in the leg and was listed in stable condition at a hospital, Matherne said.
Bourgeois had been CEO of the hospital in Raceland since 1988, Giselle Hecker, spokeswoman for Ochsner Health Systems, said in an email.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said Freeman worked at the hospital as a registered nurse until 2011, when he was fired. He said police had been called there previously after Freeman damaged a room. Freeman told officers he would seek mental help, Webre said.
But in a teleconference later Friday, Ochsner officials said Freeman had resigned voluntarily, citing personal reasons. The officials said he had worked at the hospital from May 1998 to April 2011, and that he was considered an on-call employee for another five months after that.
Freeman also had worked at two other hospitals, which along with St. Anne had been placed on lockdown for a time on Thursday.
Susan Gouaux — "Pixie" to her friends — was a teachers' aide at Holy Savior Elementary School. She also was a talented needlewoman and knitter who designed the state bicentennial quilt square for Lafourche Parish and made scarves for all her friends, Parish President Charlotte Randolph said in a telephone interview.
She said that she went to school at one time or another with both Philip and Susan Gouaux, and that Susan Gouaux taught her grandchildren. The couple has six adult daughters.
Gouaux called 911 around 6:40 p.m. Thursday from his home in Lockport, telling dispatchers he had been shot in the throat, The Courier newspaper in Houma (http://bit.ly/1cEpgEk) reported. Freeman was divorced from Gouaux's daughter Jeanne, whom he married in 1997.
Jeanne (ZHANNE) Gouaux — also a nurse — had filed several protective orders against Freeman, who had pleaded guilty to harassment charges and was allowed only supervised visits with their four children, Webre said. The last protective order expired less than a month ago, he said.
"Clearly, there has been a very difficult and complicated divorce/custody issue going on," Webre said during a news conference late Thursday.
Freeman pleaded guilty on Oct. 23 to one of two criminal telephone-harassment charges brought on a complaint filed June 19 by Gouaux and her father, Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court Vernon H. Rodrigue said. He was given a deferred sentence of a $250 fine or 10 days in jail, put on unsupervised probation for a year, and the second count of criminal harassment was dismissed, Rodrigue said.
On Nov. 27, Ben Freeman was issued a citation for simple battery domestic violence against Denise Freeman, the sheriff's office said in a news release. A court date had been scheduled for Jan. 16, 2014.
Court records show Freeman agreed in June to pay Jeanne Gouaux $22,560 in overdue child support payments dating back two years. A settlement filed the following month showed the couple would sell three adjacent lots near her parents' house and split the $25,000 in proceeds; Freeman also agreed to pay Gouaux $39,000.
Jeanne Gouaux and the children lived with her parents for a while after the divorce, said Rita Bonvillain (BAHN-vee-yenh), 83, a neighbour of the family for nearly 30 years. She said Andrea Gouaux, a nurse like her sister Jeanne, was visiting from Texas.
Whenever a holiday came, she said, children filled the house and yard. A trampoline, soccer balls and a swing hanging from a big oak in the front yard testified to that.
Bonvillain choked up and held back tears several times as she talked about the Gouauxes. Since her husband died, they regularly have stopped by to ask if she needs groceries or other errands run. The councilman once told her, "If you ever hear a sound at night and want someone to check it out, call me," she said.
Ben Freeman was found dead around 10:45 p.m. along U.S. Highway 90 near Bayou Blue. He had shot himself in the head.
At Denise Freeman's house, a man who did not give his name demanded that an Associated Press reporter leave his sister's property.
Others in the neighbourhood of quaint middle-class, ranch-style houses in Houma, the Terrebonne Parish seat, said the house was originally hers.
She had only recently married Freeman, but she and her son Josh — of elementary school age — had lived there for years, said Glenn Cradeur, who has owned his house, two down from hers, for 28 years. He said he believed the boy was not home when his mother was killed.
Cradeur said he saw no signs of trouble until about two weeks ago, when he saw police vehicles outside the home, responding to what he believed was a domestic dispute.
He returned from a visit to out-of-town relatives to find emergency vehicles outside the house and stunned neighbours gathered nearby.
"It's shocking, and it's sad," he said.
