Boys hostel at Igbinedion University burnt down

Old Boys hostel, room 183-186 M Block, at Igbinedion University got burnt down last night. Students of the school said the fire was as a result of bad electrical wiring. No life was lost in the inferno but some students lost personal items.

Blast in Jalingo kills one, wounds 11

A bomb at an outdoor bar in Jalingo, Taraba State, North-Eastern Nigeria killed at least one person and wounded 11 on Thursday, a witness said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast in the town which has been occasionally targeted by Islamist sect Boko Haram.
“There was an explosion at a beer garden in the Dorawa area of the city,” said the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Amos Olaoye, without providing further details.
The explosion occurred at Dorowa Ward off Barde Way in Jalingo at about 7.40 p.m.
A resident in the area, Sadiq Adamu said the blast shook the area in the late evening.
“I saw one dead body and three people were critically injured and taken off to hospital,” he said.
In April, a bomb blast struck the Inspector General of Police’s convoy in Jalingo, killing 11 people, although it has been largely quiet since then.
Dorowa is a popular drinking joint in Jalingo where both the local brew, “Burkutu” and “Ogogoro” as well as other assorted alcoholic drinks are sold.
Bars have sometimes been targeted by the Islamist extremists, though crime and local disputes have also led to such incidents.
The Taraba State House of Assembly had on Thursday impeached the deputy governor over allegations of corruption.

Baby-faced: Ricky Purcell described himself to officers as the 'Mr Big' of the armed attack in Cornwall

A baby-faced and self-proclaimed 'leader' of a gang has been jailed for torturing and terrorising a family.
Ricky Purcell, a slight-looking 20-year-old, bragged that he was the 'Mr Big' behind a gang which carried out an attack on a couple’s flat in Bodmin, Cornwall.
Six men wearing balaclavas forced their way into the family home armed with knives and hammers, and attempted to extort money from the couple for drugs.
The gang struck the mother on the head and body, and inflicted deep cuts on her partner.
During the attack the woman’s 11-year-old son - who was hiding under a bed - offered them his £4 pocket money so they would go away.
Purcell described himself as 'Mr Big' to officers - but probation officers believed this was simply bravado.

 

Prosecutor Elaine Hobson said that when the mother answered her door at lunchtime, the men barged in and pushed her into the bathroom where she was hit on the head and body.

She screamed at them not to hurt her children before the gang, armed with knives and hammers, inflicted deep cuts on her partner’s arm in the bedroom - as her son hid under the bed.
The men demanded cash but when the woman said they did not have any, her son offered them his pocket money.

Judge Phillip Wassall said the attack was an attempt to extort money

After the attack Purcell gave himself up to police and said he had planned the attack and had wounded the man.
Purcell, of no fixed address, admitted violent disorder during the attack on February 26, and was sent to a Young Offenders’ Institute for six years and eight months by Judge Philip Wassall.
Purcell refused to name the other members of the gang, who had Mancunian and Liverpool accents.
They are still being hunted by police.
Nigel Hall, defending, said that Purcell was young and immature for his age and that he had been exploited.
Judge Wassall told Truro Crown Court that Purcell had been part of a joint exercise to extort money from the occupants and that it had been to do with drugs.
He said it must have been an 'absolutely terrifying experience' for the three victims, in particular the boy, who watched his mother kicked and beaten, and her partner slashed with a knife.
Police said they are still hunting the rest of the gang but were pleased with the sentence meted out to Purcell.

As you read this, Screen Diva Juliet Ibrahim is still distraught after robbers attacked her and her husband last night.
The actress who had been in the States for the past few weeks, got back into the country on Tuesday only to fall victim to the unfortunate incident.
At about 11 pm last night the actress updated her status in panic asking friends to send her direct lines to the police.
When GhanaCelebrities.Com contacted the 4-Play star, she was still shaken and couldn’t speak much.
Yesterday, she stepped out with her husband earlier during the night and it is believed the robbers trailed them from there and followed them home to rob them, making away with their phones, Ipads and some cash. Fortunately no one was hurt in the process.
She and her husband are both safe and trying to get over the unfortunate incident.
We are hoping the police can track down the brain behind this incident and will keep you posted concerning the outcome of their investigations.

Model & Media Personality Uti Nwachukwu FIRES Off Warning Over Rumors that he is Gay!

We have seen celebrities in Nigeria become quite distraught and completely antagonize over accusations about their sexuality both in the fashion, film and music industries. In the music industry, two music celebrities come to mind: Asa and Charly Boy. In Asa’s case, she sued. The case, it appears, has been mostly postponed for one reason or another. Whether it is ultimately adjudicated or the parties reach an out of court settlement is left to be seen.
Joining the list of celebrities accused of being gay is Uti Nwachukwu. As you all know, Nigeria’s anti-homosexuality laws are quite harsh and has caught the attention of the international community from the UK to the USA who strongly oppose it. Do reference the video below.
Uti, in response to the allegations that he is gay, took to twitter and facebook, a few days ago, to fire off a warning. In legal speak, this should translate to some sort of libel and/or defamation claim, along with intentional infliction of emotional distress lawsuit filed against the “scapegoat” he gets. His warning, however, falls on deaf ears if directed to the public. The public on or offline can speculate that he is gay, as terrible as that may be to him since he claims he is not. He would need to join Asa, should a publication ever explicitly claim he is gay and sue such publication. He can also sue persons who wield high influence that make such a claim for it to really send a message to all.
By the way, it is baffling to me that Uti’s sexuality is even on the chopping block. I happen to think he is a man who appreciates style and his style sense reminds me of the likes of Ozwald Boateng and American designer Waraire Boswell. His hair is quite interesting but I have never once thought he was gay. Even if he is, how does that affect the price of petrol?

The singer posted the footage, which he entitled 'The Real Chris Brown', after confirming his split from girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
And in the video, Brown reveals his anguish over 'loving two people at the same time' as scenes were shown of both him and Rihanna, and him and Karrueche.

He continued: 'I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives.'
Karrueche then posted a tweet which read: 'Bye baby.'
Chris and Rihanna were spotted attending the Jay-Z concert at the Brooklyn Barclays Center on Wednesday, with a picture of the couple inside the event showing his with his arm around her as they sat in the VIP section watching the gig.
